BladeOfJustice7 Posted March 22, 2014 Posted March 22, 2014 Why hasn't anyone said anything about Bedman's theme? Also the only songs I don't enjoy are Axl's (never liked his theme) and Chipp's (it's a step down from Suck a Sage). Everything else feels like a proper succession/remix from all the old themes. I'm in love with this OST, Ride the Fire is now my cellphone alarm clock.

Tsuki Garyuu Posted March 23, 2014 Posted March 23, 2014 From what the commentators of that ArcLive tournament keep shouting, the opening line sounds more like "RADIO."
HoudiniJr100 Posted March 23, 2014 Posted March 23, 2014 From what the commentators of that ArcLive tournament keep shouting, the opening line sounds more like "RADIO." I thought that myself actually. Lol
TheRealBobMan Posted March 23, 2014 Posted March 23, 2014 You can keep screaming with your thrasher metal, but all we hear is Radio Gaga.
Icefang Posted March 23, 2014 Posted March 23, 2014 I thought he was shouting "RADAR!" of "READY UP!"
Tsuki Garyuu Posted March 23, 2014 Posted March 23, 2014 Guess I'll make my own input soon. Makes for good replacements: Sol - Love this theme a lot and even though it seems to be entirely different, it is still made so that you do know this is indeed Sol's new theme. One of the few themes that are as good as the previous ones. Axl - You can just feel he went back through time to adapt his first theme, March of the Wicked, into something great. Retains (or probably adapts) an old-school rock feeling, which I like a lot. Fits Axl like a glove too. Wouldn't mind liking this over Make Oneself. Chipp - Suck A Sage was one of those themes that fit a character, indefinitely, yet I still feel indifferent towards. I grew to not like it as much as I used to, but I don't hate it either. I guess the same can be said for Chipp's new theme, which also fits him, but I'm starting to actually like it. I do like Child of the Wild more than both, however. Slayer - Way better than Don't You Have Eyes in Your Head. As good as that track was, a new theme with an ever-so-sexy saxophone will make me want to play in his stage over and over again. Potemkin - Oh...hell...yes. It's a good replacement if you look at it continuity-wise. A theme that I think he deserved at this point in the series. Millia vs. Zato-1: Still in the Dark was a nice VS theme for these two, but you know what? So is this. It's like the perfect continuation of a cursed and very demented love story. Mirror Match - Mostly because I don't have a thing for Mirror themes, so I don't mind having this new one. It doesn't replace the Mirror EX theme from GGX2, Fated Duel, though, but that's assuming we don't get a new version of that. Good, but not replaceable: Millia - Like Potemkin's, a theme she deserved at this point in the series, but I can't say, just yet, that it replaces Writhe in Pain, especially not The Great Empress. May - Slightly better than her old theme. Slightly. My impressions of it waver a bit seeing as Blue Water Blue Sky wasn't a theme I listen to a lot. Impressions may change over time. Zato-1 - It's pretty kickass, but for a character theme, doesn't quite do him justice. Not menacing enough compared to his old theme, especially compared to Dementia. Yes, I keep bringing up the Korean OST. They are just as important for comparing the new themes. Venom - Split between thinking it's a theme he deserved and one that's a good replacement. Pretty badass, yes. Replacement? Not sure. Sol vs. Ky: Noontide and No Mercy are just too good to be replaced, but that doesn't mean I don't accept this new VS theme. It's still retains the feeling you get when listening to a Sol vs. Ky theme while adding a few touches of The Recoming. Duds: Ky - Ky, Ky, Ky...why? This is so unlike him, even from a continuity POV. It's too...light-hearted...if you can call it that. It's even weirder when you consider the fact that Holy Orders III was just thrown in there for dynamism. I-no - A good theme, but not a good I-no theme. Faust - This is not a theme you listen to and instantly think "Faust." More like "Slayer" than anything. Assassins - Not too much a dud, it just doesn't do justice for the previous Assassin theme to me. The soundtrack one hit-or-miss too many, but it's still alright. However, after listening to the themes a lot, the whole soundtrack feels...beta...incomplete. As if the compositions miss so many marks that would've made them even greater, especially the ones that make good replacements to me. You will hate me when I say that there are some parts of GVG's remixes that are better than the originals, particularly Sol's and I-no's. Oh yeah, I said it. Still, as far as impressions go, the OST has its duds, but again, it's still alright.
swordsman09 Posted March 23, 2014 Posted March 23, 2014 Finally figured out what he was shouting. It's "LET IT OUUUUUUUUT!!!"
SoWL Posted March 24, 2014 Posted March 24, 2014 I-No's theme actually fits her pretty damn well, I think. It's menacing, but not too obvious about it, it has just enough exaggerated guitar riffs for a character who fights with a guitar, and it has these subtle glamorous "night club" hints that fit a Shiina Ringo witch expy surprisingly well. And of course, the tune itself stays solid throughout the whole track. It might not be Kagematsuri II, but it's still amazing.
Tsuki Garyuu Posted March 24, 2014 Posted March 24, 2014 The thing that makes Kagematsuri a fitting theme is how it leans towards to the sexy and kinky side of her personality. The kind of metal song that, if it had lyrics, should tell you what a devilish little bitch I-no is, who's having a lot of fun with what she's doing. Then we have Blacklight Babe, which conveys pretty much the same message, but on the electric rock side. With this new theme, I get what you're saying, but I don't think it portrays I-no well enough even with those standalone qualities, making this a dud. You can give it to some other new character in this game. It really all comes back to how incomplete the OST is. It has the skeleton, but not the flesh.
HoudiniJr100 Posted March 24, 2014 Posted March 24, 2014 If ya wanted lyrics man, listen to the vocals. Somewhat fitting for her psychobitch self.
werewolfgold Posted March 24, 2014 Posted March 24, 2014 Ky - Ky, Ky, Ky...why? This is so unlike him, even from a continuity POV. It's too...light-hearted...if you can call it that. It's even weirder when you consider the fact that Holy Orders III was just thrown in there for dynamism. Wut? It's no more "light-hearted" than Holy Orders or Pillars of the Underworld are. They both have the same feel in terms of many of the chord progressions even. I don't really see anyone else but Ky having this new theme. Dude's a hero king that's all JUSTICE and MORALS and HONOR and stuff. How does it not fit? It totally fits. We doing song impressions now? I wanna play. Sol: Sounds more rough and tumble than KYA3. But, I almost thought that KYA3 sounded a little too light anyway. I think it works. Maybe the melody could stick out a little more. Ky: This song makes me want to do heroic things. May: Good stuff. Definitely works. Millia: YESSSSSSSSS. Really captures that melancholy. Zato: I kind of like it. I feel like it needs more...direction...? Potemkin: I like it. It's groovy. The constant pulse is a nice change from Burly Heart. The chorus is a little unexpected. Chipp: A little too busy, I think. Suck a Sage is kind of easy to "get" straight away. This new one I had to listen to a few times before I could figure it out. Faust: I personally would like a little more dynamic chord progression throughout, but I think it works for the most part. Axl: I think the chorus needs a little more movement. But, it's a good nod to his previous themes. Venom: At first, I was like, huh? But, I feel like this kind of captures the WTF-ness of a dude like Venom showing up to kick your ass. It also kind of captures that Egyptian crypt feel. Slayer: Nothing needs to be said. It's just understood. I-No: I like the playfulness of the base rhythm. I would add some kind of melody to the bridge before the chorus, however. Bedman: I like the sadness of this theme. The music box and piano fail is kind of funny. Gives it that nightmare feel. I should probably listen to the other themes again before I say anything. I think overall, the music seems less...conventional? Straight-laced? I think it doesn't always do what you expect it to do. But, maybe that's a good thing...

HoudiniJr100 Posted March 24, 2014 Posted March 24, 2014 Yeah, I forgot it actually did have a vocal version. Never mind then. Glad to be of service Jin cosplayer (sorry the avatar made me wanna say that) I do admit I feel like making lyrics for some of the Xrd tunes (aside ride the fire. Lol)

Lol) "Oh do NOT tell me MY ICE CAR'S ON MY F**KING ROOF!" Oh yes, do that before Daisuke makes another...L.A./N.Y. vocal album. He was the lyricist, right? I mean most everyone could tell how literal English those lyrics were, more apparent in the Blazblue album.

Chipp12 Posted March 25, 2014 Posted March 25, 2014 I... don't really think that bringing up Korean OST is the good idea. It has quite great music pieces but IMO it's awful at really being character's themes. Speaking of the 4 themes that were brought up here (Chipp/Millia/Eddie/I-no) I think that only Millia's one is kinda fitting. I'm not really feeling them as a themes for the corresponding characters (especially Chipp's theme - sounds more like some spy movie theme). Also you're wrong about the lyrics for the english vocal albums. GUILTY GEAR XX in L.A VOCAL EDITION Lyrics Hikari Suzuki (1,2) David the Big Mountain (3,5,7) Kenny the Noizy Chicken (4,10-12) Ching Kong (6,9) Chris (8) GUILTY GEAR XX in N.Y VOCAL EDITION Lyrics KAI (1,9,11) Paul Andrews (2,8,10) David (3,4,6) RYAN STEPHEN ALLDRIDGE (5,7,12)
Vulcan422 Posted March 26, 2014 Posted March 26, 2014 For those wondering, the U.S. Limited Edition OST for Chronophantasma is indeed the same thing as Song Interlude II. The only difference is that Aksys localized the names of certain tracks. The subtitle/translation for Busin is "-Dancing God-". The subtitle for Bang! Bang! BigBang! is "-Justice Will Prevail! The Hero has Come!-". And finally the subtitle for Drive Qualia is "-Wisdom of the Past, Hope for the Future-".

It's just as compatible to his character as Feel a Fear, just with some added tones of demented "spookiness." Hell, I associate Eddie with the former than the latter. Also, thanks for that. That even more safely confirms that english vocal albums tend to have mediocre written lyrics, and you can thank these guys. I'm looking at Blazblue's and I don't see any indication of a lyricist except the vocal arranger.
werewolfgold Posted March 27, 2014 Posted March 27, 2014 I listened to the VS. themes again. Sol v. Ky: So...why does that opening part have nothing to do with the rest of the song. It seemed like it should've been incorporated throughout. And, I feel like it needs a keyboard or something. But, still good. Millia v. Zato: It's not Still in the Dark. But, I don't think they should really be compared like that anyway. It's a nice song filled with...longing, I suppose. It perhaps fits because it's Zato in control now. Assassins: I like it. It feels...overly dramatic, though. The relationship between them all doesn't seemed as strained anymore like the song would imply. Same Character: Eh. It works. I also figured out what I don't like about Chipp's theme. It doesn't seem like the chorus leads back into the refrain very well. It's just kind of there. And, I think I like Zato's theme a little more now.
D.R.F. Posted March 27, 2014 Posted March 27, 2014 Idk, maybe I am a bit more forgiving then most about the soundtrack. My biggest gripe, and this for me is big, is that the drums feel weaker and seem overwhelmed a bit in comparison to the other instruments. Its real apparent to me in sol`s and zato's theme. Apart from that, xrd ost does wonders for me, just like most of daisuke's work:D Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747 using Tapatalk
NesmerII Posted March 28, 2014 Posted March 28, 2014 My biggest gripe, and this for me is big, is that the drums feel weaker and seem overwhelmed a bit in comparison to the other instruments. I have to say though, the drums in Potemkin's and Axl's new themes, while still not a defined as I would like, kick some major ass. Perhaps it's due to the general quality of the rips that are floating around the internet. Hopefully the official ost release will be better quality. Listened to Faust's theme a couple times today. I, for one, pretty much love every single track (some more than others, but that's always the case), but I'm starting to think that Faust's theme really doesn't suit him, mainly because I'm getting a really strong Jam vibe from it. Seriously, listen to it, especially the chorus, and it definitely has that "oriental" flare to it, which is probably unintentional, though it makes some sense seeing as how Faust is Chinese (I think). Even the main riff has the same rhythm that Babel Nose had, just remove the piano bit and it becomes even more apparent. It's just missing that essential touch of insanity/wackiness. Still love it though. Still, seeing as how good the overall soundtrack is, I can't wait to hear the new/remixed version of all the characters who still have yet to make it in. For better or worse, Daisuke's current work is definitely on a much grander/heavier scale than before and has seemingly moved away from the rawness of the older tracks, but just think of what that means for epic themes like "Awe of She" or groove-tastic tracks like "Liquor Bar and Drunkard". Using Ky and Sol's new themes (grand vs. heavy, respectively), I can hardly wait.
D.R.F. Posted March 28, 2014 Posted March 28, 2014 Haha yea I hope its just because its not hd. But faust is chinese so Im okay with it. I think my favorite theme is either I-no or pot Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747 using Tapatalk
