But he said that rippers try their best ripping it , so the source is probably low quality. That's the way I understand it.

They were talking about ripping it from the game. The songs on the PS3 version were only 80kbps-ish. PS4 was higher, though I'm not sure what the bitrate was. At least 128.

The CD version is something different. I highly doubt that the official soundtrack will be anything less than industry standard (or at least the Special Edition vocal soundtrack, which was fine).

I think you're confusing the PS3 rip and the old, old arcade rip of then released tracks that circulated the internet way before we even had a console release date. That one was IIRC 84kbps or something around that. I haven't had a chance to analyze straight PS3 rips, although it's reasonably easy to compare by just playing a song from Overture in the gallery and comparing it to a rip of the GG2 OST - sounds pretty bad. The PS4 version though, rips from that sound just fine. I didn't had a chance to run the same comparison  though. I don't think there's reason to doubt the quality we'll get on CD. It's still mostly a collectors item, if they wanted real quality they'd press that stuff on vinyl (I'd buy that so hard).

I am not confusing anything. The PS3 versions of the songs are indeed 80kbps.

They are sitting on my laptop right now.

I have had the chance. Take my word for it.

Okay, it's not like I have any actual data here. It's pretty clear-cut that Arc bombed the music quality in the game... it was released in 2014 and for PS4 no less... is demanding Audio CD quality really all that much? There's no merit to this decision, no argument supporting it whatsoever.

On a side note, the tracks on the actual CD are very much fine - you could even say they have some dynamics in the mid-low range, and that was out of the question in the case of game rips we had. Also... Six Black Heavens Guns rocks my socks off.

Running some quick comparisons between the sound of the PS4 rips and average quality CD rip... there's something wrong with not just the bitrate of the in-game version. It's like the production is off in so many ways. The mid-range is non-existent in the game versions, just compare Give me a break for 10 seconds each and listen to the drums carefully. It goes beyond the simple lack of information in the 128kbps PS4 file - even if you downgrade the CD rips to that bitrate, they still sound way better. The game version is just simply rubbery in the low register and totally not there in the transition between low/mid and mid/high. A totally botched job... I never bothered comparing the way in-game music from BBCP sounds to the CD, but if it's like this too, SOMEONE at ASW needs to get fired.
I know playing fighting games is not a goddamn audiophile experience or whatever, but from a game released in 2014 and on hardware like PS4, I think we can demand... ANY quality at all. Horrible disappointment.

I highly doubt anyone will ever notice it while playing, it only needs to be recognizable. Lower quality also deters people who rip music directly from the game, and helps to ensure some market for the OST.

Well, it's no reason to not buy or play a fighting game, of course. Maybe it's just my personal obsession with music being at least well produced, but I kind of expected more than crappy sound from a game so centered and revered for its music. At least the CD is fine.

That's the thing though, your enjoyment of the game shouldn't be affected by it, and if you want to enjoy the music outside of the game, you have access to the CD. If it were a movie, i would understand crappy sound production being a detriment, but if it doesn't affect your decision to buy or play the game, then the only reason to complain about the production is merely on principle, which is not always a good reason.

kinda sucks when you're in a lobby not spectating and all you can do is listen to the music, though

It's not even that bad. Guilty Gear uses linear pulse-code modulation which is uncompressed audio that sounds more realistic and better suited for analog over digital. Due to the style of the music in-game, this will actually overall have better fidelity over more digital-oriented formats on certain sound systems. The audio format used for games is significantly different than when pressed to an audio disc, which will use CDDA format at 1411 kbps. There's more to audio than just bitrate. I can't really say more than this though because I don't know exactly what audio format or API is used for Guilty Gear on PS3 vs PS4. I'd have to actually play with the audio myself.

TL;DR-I'm fairly certain that the audio CD set will be of a satisfactory quality. I just wouldn't hold my breath for "OMG THE BEATLES WHITE ALBUM REMASTER" quality.

Six Black Heavens Guns is absolutely amazing. Just replaced Storyteller as my favorite of the vocal themes.

It replaced Big Blast Sonic for me. Lily still holds a very special place in my heart though.

They only had 2 guitarists this time, but there were only a couple of instances where a song was really hurting for the harmony guitar. For exmaple, during the main chorus part of Crystal Forest, the rhythm guitar part was dropped and the second guitarist played harmony. Unfortunately, the sound balance was off at times. Sometimes, you could barely hear the violin or the keyboard, but other times you could. Some solos weren't really heard that well. I think the dude at the soundboard was effing up or something. It was still a pretty great show overall.

The version of Stardust Memory that they did was not the one that Kondou sang at the first BBxGG concert (Place of Promise) but the new version that was on the CD with recta ratio and REVENGER and such.

Some cool/funny things that happened.

  • We were met with opening announcement by Tomokazu Sugita as Ragna. He wasn't there. It was just pre-recorded. But, it was Ragna bitching about how Rachel forced him to do the announcing for the concert, thinking that his mic wasn't on (it was). A similar incident occurred at the end where he said that he was never going to do anything like this again. Upon realizing that his mic was still on, he told audience to literally GTFO.
  • The first 4 opening songs were played in a medley style with transitions, so it was kind of like one long song.
  • The openings themes were played alongside the actual opening movies from the game (and pretty much perfectly timed, good job band). The CP2 opening was edited so that instead of the character panels being revealed, it was photos of the band members.
  • The CPE opening movie was also played alongside BLUE desire. It's pretty boss sauce. It actually gave me feels. It has a lot of animated clips from the past, such as Nine yelling at Celica regarding using her soul for the lynchpin with Trinity, Jubei, and Ragna in the background. Also there's a shot of Litchi and Roy talking which morphs into Litchi and Arakune fighting. There was also a very psycho-looking Izayoi fighting Jin and Makoto. Gratuitous jiggle all around. I'm sure everyone will get a chance to see the opening movie soon.
  • Tsuyoshi Koyama still can't really sing live to save his life, the poor guy. But, he sold it a lot better this time. There was also the great return of the 6-pack abs makeup, which the camera guy focused on a lot. Actually, after he sang his first song, he took off his coat (like last time) and this time made the off color joke where he called his nipples the "A button" and the "B button" and then pointed to his crotch and said that that was the stick. Everybody was immediately uncomfortable, but it was pretty funny. He then said that he was egged on to say that by Mori after being assured that there was not going to be a DVD of it. But if they do make one, he wants that part to be cut out.
  • marionette is a pretty cool song. Looking forward to hearing the studio version.
  • Childish Killer was so good, I almost didn't care about the Engrish. lol
  • There was an awkward momemt when Asami Imai started back singing too early during Condemnation Wings during the middle guitar solo. That was a pretty funny face.
  • Asami Imai had the audience vote on whether or not she was going to sing recta ratio and Shinsou in a "super-cute" way or a "cool" way. When a lot of people voted for cute, she was like "For real? No. That's not going to happen. Sorry."
  • There were a few interludes where they played scenes from the game. They played Ragna and Jin's meeting in CT story mode before UHD, a scene of Ragna lying on Celica's lap from CP story before Crystal Forest, Jin's CP arcade ending before Lust SIN, and Hazama's CS arcade ending before they played Gluttony Fang.
  • After Endless Despair, they just kind of walked off the stage. They didn't even pretend like the concert was "over". It was just like, break time. They didn't say nothing. The audience stood in silence for a good 45 seconds before they realized that maybe they should be saying "encore" or something.
  • Mori made an announcement that there will be a BlazBlue festival in July. I'm pretty sure he said that all the Blue Radio hosts will be there. And Ishiwatari said that he would like to do another concert. But, no plans yet.
  • For the encore, everyone put on the Concert T-shirts (like last time). During the final curtain call, Koyama kept lifting his shirt up to reveal his "abs" and Imai kept forcing his shirt back down. Then as they were all leaving, he snuck behind Mori and Ishiwatari and lifted up their shirts. Clearly, this man must be stopped. lol

I guess if anyone has any questions, they can feel free to ask. I would've liked it had they done maybe Litchi or Arakune's themes or maybe even Weak Executioner instead of having 2 Hazama songs AND the Terumi song, but whatever. I dunno if they ever will. *sigh*

This was the first time I've ever seen MDP Sanchez. She's pretty hot if I do say so myself.

I'm not about to type out a full translation, but basically Mori and Ishiwatari are really proud of everyone and thought that the VAs really put their all into it. Ishiwatari said that before now, Asami Imai had always been kind of nervous about it, but she seems to have gotten used to being on stage. They said that Sanchez really nailed it and that Kitazawa is always fun to have around for Awakening the Chaos. Mori said that maybe for the next concert, he wants to get more orchestral instruments involved, though it'd be logistically difficult.

They said that they did Blazblue only this time because there may be fans out there that pretty much only know BB and it might not be as fun for them to sit through songs that they may not know. A Guilty Gear only concert is also a very real possibility. And then maybe after that, they'll do another huge joint concert. Nothing is finalized right now.
