Lou_Cypher Posted August 13, 2009 Posted August 13, 2009 I wonder what the PWAB would do if they get their hands on Valentine? Could they even handle her and her Vizuel?
Blade Posted August 13, 2009 Author Posted August 13, 2009 Odds are against it since her body/remains exist within the dense pressure of the Backyard, only Gears modified to enter such a place and Yokai can exist there, so retrieval of the body is not likely, That Man being a key exception.
Blade Posted August 13, 2009 Author Posted August 13, 2009 Regarding the following games: GGX Advanced Edition GG Petit 1+2 GG Isuka GG Dust Strikers GG Judgment GG Rise of Arms None of these games bear canonical weight or a set date (2181 most likely). The Petit game stories and GGXAE borrow heavily from GGX+ which was the foundation. Isuka and Dust Strikers use the same system based on GGXX#Reload (prior to Slash). Judgment came from Isuka's Boost Mode, and Rise of Arms is a replica of the original Guilty Gear with some elements borrowed from Isuka and Judgment. Regardless of this, the relationship chart states that Leopaldon and Gig are Gears. Raymond was a former colleague of Fausts' but became Judgment, a quasi-yokai life-form who died soon after coming to exist due to the death of his Host, Inus the Underworld King.
~Avant~ Posted August 13, 2009 Posted August 13, 2009 So essentially while the storyline canon of some of the games come into question, the characters themselves are a canon part of the universe
Blade Posted August 13, 2009 Author Posted August 13, 2009 It's basically how Daisuke defines the term Gaiden, extra info that doesn't impact the core story, but can nuance it.
Blade Posted August 13, 2009 Author Posted August 13, 2009 Noel asked if Chipp got his revenge in Butterfly and Her Gale novel. The novel covers the backstory of how Chipp met Tsuyoshi-shisho and got weaned off Drugs. Since the Mafia had a Hit out on Chipp for embezzling drug funds and supplies and the Soshiki were hunting Tsuyoshi for being an IPF Sleeper, they were both considered fugitives. Tsuyoshi's reason for taking Chipp to the mountains (I assume in A Country), was to hide the both of them till things calmed down. Volf was contracted by the Soshiki along with a group of other Assassins to hunt down Tsuyoshi specifically. It was partially because Chipp went down the mountain to get supplies that they managed to ambush Tsuyoshi. Despite the ambush, Tsuyoshi held his own and was much stronger than even Volf, but they managed to critically wound him, leaving Volf as the only survivor. Volf escaped and swore he would kill Chipp next time. As he died, Tsuyoshi made Chipp promise not to get revenge on the mafia, though Chipp didn't fully grasp it at the time.
Blade Posted August 13, 2009 Author Posted August 13, 2009 Chipp's reason for joining the 2nd Recruitment tournament was to scout for anyone suspicious working with the Mafia and Soshiki...though he failed in that regard, he realized he hadn't learned a thing from his Master, so he took to training near the Devil's Forest and within the Japanese dimensional colony. A lot of things happened along the way, such as a girl with wings falling on him from the sky, to meeting his (then) sworn nemesis, the founder of the Soshiki, and even meeting a man like Venom who offered his support should Chipp beat the systems the Mafia controlled (Soshiki and PWAB as well). To do this he realized he would need influence. So he sought to become a President (though he's a bit dense regarding that). Advice from Slayer himself to not seek revenge but seek to do what's right, rang true with Chipp, and having met Potemkin several times before, he sought to learn all he could about helping people.
Blade Posted August 13, 2009 Author Posted August 13, 2009 The life of security detail and secret service didn't sit well with Chipp, though he did learn a lot, he was restless and felt he hadn't achieved much in Zepp. So for a while he became a vigilante of sorts. Being a Ninja, he managed to catch wind of a rumor that a certain organization was putting a puppet president in in charge of A Country...outraged that something like this could happen he decided to infiltrate the Oval Office and investigate, or if necessary kill the president. He was surprised to find the President was a young teenage girl by the name of Erica Barthowlamew, and even more surprised to find out Potemkin was assigned as part of her security detail on orders from Zepp! Realizing the rumor wasn't as bad as he'd heard, Erica had nothing to do with the conspiracy, learning more about what was going on here from Potemkin, he decided to stick around in case anyone tried to influence her or use her as a bargaining chip. They soon became fast friends and things calmed down for a while.
Blade Posted August 13, 2009 Author Posted August 13, 2009 Sometime later, a certain member within the UN used his influence on Soshiki to assassinate the president of A Country. It's not known if he contacted Venom or only had ties to Volf, but the order was given for the hit. Volf successfully managed to kidnap Erica with full intensions of luring Chipp in to a trap to kill them both. The battle Chipp had with Volf took to the rafters of the UN Building itself, which eventually caught fire. Realizing saving Erica took priority over defeating his Master's killer, he rescued her from the building and managing to outwit Volf. Volf had no choice but to escape, having failed his mission, but this was short-lived. Zepp caught the UN Member who gave the order, and in retaliation for having failed too many times, Volf was executed on Venom's orders (possibly as a favor to Chipp).
Blade Posted August 13, 2009 Author Posted August 13, 2009 Soon after Chipp decided to stay in regular contact with Erica, as she now assumed full responsibilities as President under Zepp's watchful eye. Chipp remarked that it was like she had turned in to a Butterfly, Erica replied that he had been her Gale to help her along.
Skitz Posted August 14, 2009 Posted August 14, 2009 Regarding the following games: GGX Advanced Edition GG Petit 1+2 GG Isuka GG Dust Strikers GG Judgment GG Rise of Arms None of these games bear canonical weight or a set date (2181 most likely). Raymond was a former colleague of Fausts' but became Judgment, a quasi-yokai life-form who died soon after coming to exist due to the death of his Host, Inus the Underworld King. I agree with you there on GGXAE and the Petit series. GGXAE is basically GGX+ retold. Though I happen to like Fanny as a character, the Petit series did not have a story mode and did not add anything to the story because of it. Maybe Daisuke will find it within his benefit to reintroduce Fanny - be it something interesting for the story or financial gain - but I'm doubtful. I mean, it has been confirmed more GG and GG2 games are on the way, but the jury is still out on what will come of it. I agree on Isuka and GG: Rise of Arms as well. There was no story mode in Isuka and the only thing that could count as close to it - the Boost Mode - is just you side-scrolling fighting a gang of thugs, random characters, and Leopaldon. I was more than convinced that Leopaldon was a Gear the first time I saw him, but since there is no story Isuka just seemed to me an exercise in group GG fighting with extras. Basically, Isuka's Boost Mode and Leopaldon to me have no influence on the story and are both just part of a drawn out Survival Mode. GG: Rise of Arms was just GG1 retold. Dust Strikers and Judgment I'm still skeptical on. Though you are correct in that there really isn't any exact time given for these events (We can assume, though, that it was around 2181 and I'm more than willing to accept that) there were story modes for both of them. I did not play Dust Strikers, which is the only GG game besides Overture that I haven't played yet, so I cannot speak on behalf of its canon until I play it. Judgment, however, did have a story and character connections. I would like to believe Judgment has canon and is just a side story that takes place after GGXX.
Blade Posted August 14, 2009 Author Posted August 14, 2009 I never said they weren't canon because I believed it, that's not opinion. That's fact. These games won't be used as sources for later installments, that's just what being non-canon means, that's all. Canon in this case just means a core element or character that is recurring and serves as the basis for further installments. Try to keep opinions and bias out of the thread, please, and stick with just questions and information you have that are unquestionable facts and lore, or at least vital info that serves to answer a question.
Skitz Posted August 14, 2009 Posted August 14, 2009 It's fact then. Okay, just wanted that cleared up. It seemed so convincing though with all things considered, but I can't argue with facts. Thanks for the info.
Blade Posted August 14, 2009 Author Posted August 14, 2009 If I ever give anyone fan-based speculation on anything, you'll know it, but just keep in mind this thread is in Q&A Format to avoid opinion and speculation as much as possible.
Skitz Posted August 14, 2009 Posted August 14, 2009 If I ever give anyone fan-based speculation on anything, you'll know it, but just keep in mind this thread is in Q&A Format to avoid opinion and speculation as much as possible. Understandable. I can only blame myself in that I got lost in my writing like I always do and somehow diverge from fact into opinion. My apologies on that one.
~Avant~ Posted August 14, 2009 Posted August 14, 2009 It's basically how Daisuke defines the term Gaiden, extra info that doesn't impact the core story, but can nuance it. Would the manga also fall into this category?
danceljoy Posted August 14, 2009 Posted August 14, 2009 Would the manga also fall into this category? I think everything... My question: How large is the Jellyfish Pirates? Just one airship or a network? Is Johnny their top leader or just one of its members?
BioLogIn Posted August 14, 2009 Posted August 14, 2009 Would the manga also fall into this category? yes My question: How large is the Jellyfish Pirates? Just one airship or a network? Is Johnny their top leader or just one of its members? "Jelllyfish Pirates" are pirates from "Jellyfish" airship, which is commanded by Johnny.
Blade Posted August 14, 2009 Author Posted August 14, 2009 GGXtra Manga, while official in some capacity is what I like to call 'pseudo-canon', in that some items within it don't jive with the timeline but it's still part of GGs history and lore. It should be noted a lot of things got changed in transition from GGX to GGXX, they weren't lost per se...just changed. As for the Jellyfish, there is no expanded information beyond the core 13 girls (cat included) and Johnny, though it's heavily implied they enjoy a network that ranges from Blacktech salvage, Engineer ships, even import-export black market trade (ideally stolen from rich and given to poor in exchange for supplies for the ships, yes they have smaller ones), the crew is more an organization now with Johnny serving as a defacto-founder. He's the Captain of the original 13...but the other girls were taken in from fallouts, orphanages, warzones, and given love and a new life to make choices with, though many girls end up staying within Johnny's network..
Blade Posted August 14, 2009 Author Posted August 14, 2009 Expanding further on this girl network, some have been adopted and move on, while certain factions within the infrastructure of the crew have developed, complete with their own representing airships. Though it's never openly stated, these factions back eachother up, though they all treat Johnny with love and respect. The factions observed include an Engineering Faction who usually fixes and services the ships after aerial conflicts, a Martial Arts faction, composed of girls who probably lost to Johnny in a Duel in the past but serve to protect the rest of the crew, being their key combat frontlines, and then finally a Resources faction, whose job it is to maintain food and supplies to the network, serve as contact with Black-market traders and salvagers, and work to help abandoned children and orphans find homes or employment or education. Ky, Bridget, and Millia have been in contact with the network, but only Bridget is an unofficial member.
~Avant~ Posted August 14, 2009 Posted August 14, 2009 Okay so Tyr and Mizuha are canon correct? If so what the hell are they? Are they gears or something else entirely?
Blade Posted August 14, 2009 Author Posted August 14, 2009 There are things outside the realm of Gears that range from Yokai to Backyard Residents to the "Exceptions" as Slayer likes to call them, beings that are outside of Human reckoning that existed before Magic was discovered or put to use. In fact Slayer states he's from another world entirely (I'm guessing the Makai "May-kai", the worlds of angels and demons and other such beings of mythology). Japanese and Chinese Mythology have a huge collective of such mythical beings and creatures, also beings called gods and goddesses or incarnations of them. I'm not precisely sure what Mizuha would be, but Tyr is obviously THE Tyr from norse mythology whose arm got bit off by Fenris, also called Fenrir and wolf of the underworld. As for why the Jinki reacted to Tyr...there's no absolute way of knowing since it's never explained...however we are left with a clue in precisely what the Jinki (Sacred Treasures) are. They are fragments of the OutRage, that serve as Magic amplification devices. Each with it's own element representing a certain "part" of the universe. http://dustloop.com/forums/showthread.php?p=361729&highlight=Jinki#post361729 Considering that an incarnation of the Aesir reacted to the elements (or rather, vice-versa), it's key to understand that these elements are tied to great forces within nature itself, even natural beings or "guardian forces" (borrowing from FF8 a bit). It's not an absolute answer to your question, but it's a working theory at least.
Suzaku Posted August 14, 2009 Posted August 14, 2009 Relationship between Raven and Axl? According to Ishiwatari's comments in the 10th Memorial Book, it appears that he never intended Raven to be Axl's "parallel existence", and his parallel existence is someone else entirely from what the fans have speculated; their identity will be a surprise. The book also explicitly states that Raven's powers have nothing to do with time slipping, and basically debunks any connections between the two characters. His strong allegiance to That Man is the result of That Man giving his long life a purpose (presumably to 'be a witness to history'), when he had previously lived for so long that life had lost all meaning. The book also describes him as a "dark hero", and contrasts his long life with Sol's, basically noting that Raven's immortality has caused him to see the worst in things. Raven is "genetically immortal", or in other words, is a natural immortal by birth. At the moment his immortality "activated", he stopped aging, and has been living for at least 2,000 years. No matter how severe his injuries are, he regenerates completely -- even if his body is reduced to carrion; a spike through his brain stem has no affect on him. He was born in Germany in the middle ages and was an accomplished knight, presumably during the Crusades in the early 12th Century (rough estimate based on known information). His "first death" was being surrounded by enemies who "showered his body with arrows" and then stabbed him to death with swords. Rather than dying, he found himself in a "cylindrical space" filled with window-like mirrors. There he had the sensation of being caged with predatory birds and felt their stares boring into him, eventually transforming into the pain of needles piercing him every part of his body capable of feeling pain; this is described as, "perhaps greatest amount of pain a human can possibly experience". His powers presumably have something to do with this "cylindrical space". Is Overture 5 years after GGX or 5 years after GGXXAC? Is there a significant time difference between those two? Both. GGXXAC happens very, very shortly after GGXX, which happens very, very shortly after GGX. 1. Is Dizzy Sol's daughter? Not confirmed, but seems likely. Sol was Aria's lover, and Aria became Justice. Dizzy is Justice's "daughter". 2. Are Sol and Ky gay? No, but they're rivals and that's always exploitable by yaoi fangirls. Ishiwatari doesn't help with some of his artwork. Regardless, Sol had a relationship with Aria, and Ky has a wife and son. 3. Who is Ky's wife? The Maiden of the Grove, AKA Dizzy. I'm not sure if it's been 100% confirmed, but the 10th Memorial Book lists Dizzy and Ky as being in love, and it's even more heavily hinted than Aria being Justice. 4. Is Faust and Baldhead the same people? Almost without a doubt, but not outright confirmed. The 10th Memorial Book lists them as "The same person?" 5. Is Bridget really a boy? Yes. He has a twin brother and was raised as a boy by his parents due to superstitions in their village about twins. He is trying to prove his manliness, however. He also wears Riot brand clothing, just like Sol and Sin, for those who are curious. 6. Is Aria the human form of Justice? Pretty much, yeah. 7. Who is Solaria? Marina? Solaria is a sentient Command-type Gear created by the Blackard Company in the novel Lightning the Argent, she is currently in the custody of the International Police Force. Marina was a character from the same novel, who was crippled. She was drawn into Ky's investigation of the Blackard Company, and eventually their miracle cure caused her legs to explode into Gears. I never said they weren't canon because I believed it, that's not opinion. That's fact. These games won't be used as sources for later installments, that's just what being non-canon means, that's all. And yet, they are listed in the 10th Memorial Book, and the characters are part of the official character chart. All indication would point to, at the very least, the characters being canon, if not the events. Canon means the official, confirmed storyline, as defined or described by the owners of the franchise. Saying that those games/manga aren't canon is as much fan speculation as assuming they are, because it hasn't been clearly defined. The characters are included in the 10th Memorial Book, and that's as much as I can confirm. Defining what exactly is canon or not is hard to do, because there are various branching story arcs, and there's no way everything could happen. Regardless, you can take virtually everything as being true to the characters, or, "This is what would happen IF this happened." In other words, it can give you more information and truth to a character, their personality, and their story, even if that event didn't actually happen. As a purely hypothetical example, if Faust revealed he was Baldhead in one ending, but nothing like that ever happened in his official, true ending, you could still consider the other ending a confirmation of him being Baldhead.
Jais Posted August 14, 2009 Posted August 14, 2009 I'm goona go ahead and ask because it'd be funny to know, after 5 years of plaything this char, although I'd hate to have to answer ppl when they ask me if I knew the answer. What is Bridget's cross dressing for? Parents raised him like a girl cause his sister died?
danceljoy Posted August 15, 2009 Posted August 15, 2009 I'm goona go ahead and ask because it'd be funny to know, after 5 years of plaything this char, although I'd hate to have to answer ppl when they ask me if I knew the answer. What is Bridget's cross dressing for? Parents raised him like a girl cause his sister died? Answered already in the previous post: Yes. He has a twin brother and was raised as a boy by his parents due to superstitions in their village about twins. He is trying to prove his manliness, however. He also wears Riot brand clothing, just like Sol and Sin, for those who are curious. Bridget has no sister. It's just that he'll get in trouble if people learn that he's a guy. He could be possibly ostracized, banished, discriminated or whatever.
