Scottie Yosh Posted July 20, 2012 Posted July 20, 2012 (edited) Will there be cookies at the tournament? I fucking love cookies. Probably not as our resident baker, MetalMaelstrom, is out of town for the summer. Tournaments and forums make you bad player...not sure I understand it but whatever. No need to feed the troll. i'm not going Sorry to hear that. Hope your current circumstances work out soon. Edited July 20, 2012 by Scottie Yosh
PozerWolf Posted July 20, 2012 Author Posted July 20, 2012 (edited) Now you can avoid the final panel by doing the right thing like supporting the scene and working with me so that you can attend. If you don't want to, that's fine your choice. Keep in mind though, what your doing is not helping the scene at all at this point. Then again you probably don't care about the scene. This is a very offensive statement for those who actually help create and establish the scene, sacrifice so much, when you're just some nobody who came out of no where thinking they're part of something and hosting some random ass event. FYI: Hosting "tournaments" doesn't exactly help the scene. Rather than me mouthing you off for saying something so ignorant, I suggest biting your tongue in the future so others won't bitch at you for such a remark (especially with some of the OGs coming back). If I don't, someone else will. A tournament host feeding trolls. Seriously? whats happening? You talk and type like a little girl on this forum (that, or it's because of that avatar of yours). Stop that! If Hsien were to see you typing like this, he would never speak to you again. Edited July 20, 2012 by PozerWolf
MetalMaelstrom Posted July 20, 2012 Posted July 20, 2012 (edited) Does baking brownies/cookies/cupcakes count as supporting the scene? Should I set up a booth at EVO next year? Also, FlameIce, you got it wrong. My penis is hot pink like strawberry ice cream at a Gelado. Edited July 20, 2012 by MetalMaelstrom

PozerWolf Posted July 21, 2012 Author Posted July 21, 2012 (edited) I'll show up the tournament, only because I have work that day. Had I not work that day, of course I'd avoid it. Everything about it sounds like a disaster, and the fact that the TO had no discussion with the community about this event makes it even more of a joke. Joke implying that he feels like he knows the scene, yet obtain zero feed back from them. Popping an event out of no where does not create hype. Only reason the event might get numbers is because of the Persona 4 Arena hype and the facebook advertisement (c'mon now, Facebook can make even the shittiest event big). It's too bad this tournament might make other P4A events look bad for UFO in the future, ruining my plans in helping the P4A scene. The name of the event is pathetic, but it also implies how much the idea this tournament was rushed. Because of that, better choice of games could have been used to "save" this event for the FGC in Austin. Having the event run with the idea of Marvel at hand would've helped increased numbers. Basically, had the event ran something like this: * 1 More Shit!! Featuring: P4A and MvC3 The idea would have Persona 4 Arena working two events. One being singles, and the other being teams. Singles and teams would get just as many numbers as the other because, seeing as how the game is on the same week as launch, teams would help encourage those who are worried to enter the tournament to join in with their friends. The Marvel 3 community has a strong following here in Austin, and those who are actually a part of the scene would've figured out that about 90% of the Austin marvel community actually wants to play persona 4 arena (if not 90%, all). The marvel players, worried of entering the event, would be force to come along due to have MvC3 on the line up, and then hopefully convincing them in entering the P4A tournament. Chances are, they will due to their competitive nature. The name could've used way more work. Funny thing is, naming a Persona type event would have been really easy to do since the game is full bad puns. I mean, I don't know, naming it even something like "Adachi Super Arena BBQ" would have been a better title. Overall, it feels like why the event might blunder is because of all the hate with the TO, which actually makes perfect scenes (so no one blames the haters). In no way did he try to communicate with the fighting game players around him, and neither has he done anything to help the community in Austin, but still giving himself the title that he is a supporter in some awkward way. In the end, I have no doubts the event may fall apart and I'll have to take over and help fix things up. It sucks that we're going to endure something this painful, but in the end, let's hope it doesn't screw the scene here in Austin over. Edited July 21, 2012 by PozerWolf

MetalMaelstrom Posted July 21, 2012 Posted July 21, 2012 The title isn't bad, imo. It's named after an in-game mechanic, so at the very least it's relevant. However, I do agree that running Marvel alongside it could bring in more attendance, especially considering how many people even care about BB anymore. However, the $5 venue fee and $5 asking price per game is also off-putting. I know that it makes the pot payout sufficient in the (likely) case that few people enter each tournament. Most regulars at UFO are used to paying $2 per ranbat game. Imagine how unappealing this sounds to them. I know that we're (allegedly) getting out-of-towners to come, but that's not the point. The game is going to be young and the players need to be established in the game. P4U, BB, and (formerly) AH3, from an outsider's perspective, will look more like an anime circle-jerk than a fighting game tournament. Don't get me wrong, I fucking love anime games. I am UFO's premiere Gals Panic S2 player and Cooking Mama extraordinaire. But I do acknowledge how the public views them.
PozerWolf Posted July 21, 2012 Author Posted July 21, 2012 The title isn't bad, imo. It's named after an in-game mechanic, so at the very least it's relevant. However, I do agree that running Marvel alongside it could bring in more attendance, especially considering how many people even care about BB anymore. It's more like the BB players don't have a choice but to move on to P4U. If they don't then they'll just be at it with a dead game. If out of towners actually show up, that'd be something. But not too sure if they are actually coming out to this or not. Funny thing about the event is that a lot of people think Scottie, Fubar, or I is running the event which is why some people are sparking interests. Also, to take any serious feed back from almost anyone on this site is........ awful (with some exceptions).
FlameIce Posted July 22, 2012 Posted July 22, 2012 (edited) 1. Scottie is helping to run it. Fubar will be there too. Im taking all precautions to make sure the tournament gos smooth. I have also run tournaments in the past. So i have experience doing this sort of thing. 2. Lol the name is better than your tournamet names. Summer nights dance or whatever it is. We actually thought about this for a while. We decided that something simple and straight forward would be best. 3. You say you understand the community and I don't. But then you say things like the AH3 community is fine even though they have no reason to play in Austin and as a result have stopped playing. The logic seems strange to me. 4. To say that adding mvc3 to the tournament will help the numbers of other games isn't necessarily true. When i helped run the ceo tournaments which had a fair amount of games and then later ran a focused BB event, those who wanted to play BB played BB. The numbers were nearly identical at both events. Those who have an interest in P4U will play P4U they just need a reason to play and they need to know. Adding someting like mvc3 will make the tournament MUCH harder to run. Espicaly considering UFO size. 5. Glad your going to be there pozer. Everyone else show up and lets have fun! @Edit more points to add 6. The community expressed that a release tournament should be a more casual affair hence the $5 fee. Now if everyone feels more money is really needed i can look into a pot bonus. Please be serous by the way. Ive learned my lesson. I wont take it serious if you don't speak in a reaspectful manner. @EDIT again. Sorry misread metal malestroms post. Point 6 is not valid. New point 6. The reason there is a venue fee is because the tournament is going to take up the arcade. Which means less business for UFO during that time period. The venue fee compensates for the potential business lost. Edited July 22, 2012 by FlameIce
PozerWolf Posted July 22, 2012 Author Posted July 22, 2012 Wow, the amount of ignorance coming from flameice's posts is so overwhelming, there's no proper way to brake it down. Mocks the last tournament names when the community thought of them. Talks about CEO, why? Tournament was not in Texas, fyi. Something about ah3 logic? Guy is just making shit up now. Says he spoke to the community about the venue price. No, you didn't because you don't even know who's in the "community". The community isn't your goddamn play house puppet friends you have tea parties with in your back yard, okay? Is this the type of TO you want running this event? Sad. What makes things worse is the purpose behind this event. This dude is trying to get attention from the scene and feels like hosting this event is his way in just trying to get approval from the scene in Austin. Whatever. I would suggest people to boycott this event, but the p4a hype is strong. Who knows, maybe the tournament might not be a complete disaster. Meow.
Blossomforth Posted July 22, 2012 Posted July 22, 2012 wow youre so serious on the forum poser. but talking to that group outside of ufo your ideas did make a lot more sense. i think i understand why you would boycott the event. but until then lets just play games. texted okay?
