Is there actually a distinct term "grimalkin" used to describe Jubei/Kokonoe's species IN JAPANESE?

Because Hakumen's line in the game "dont interrupt me!..." uses "bake-neko" which afaik is something like "you freak cat", and is more an insult than a technical term?

Well, grimalkin seems to be an insult or racial slur towards what ever Kokonoe and Jubei are.

Bakeneko is used in the Japanese version, which means "ghost cat". They're magical cats from Japanese folklore that have special powers such as talking or walking on two legs.

Grimalkins are cats in Western folklore associated with witches, usally shown to be sentient and sometimes able to take human form.

They localize bakeneko as grimalkin because a grimalkin is a similar concept found in Western folklore.

Anyway, more importantly, it's not the name of a race, it's an insult used exclusively by Hakumen to refer to Jubei and Kokonoe. Kokonoe is a "half-beast-man" and Jubei is a "beast-man".

They probably also used grimalkin rather than bake-neko to hint at Nine being Kokonoe's mother, since Nine was a witch. Was that ever confirmed though?

hakumen confirms nine being kokonoe's mom at the begining of his story...

and yeah i agree it sounds like a reference to it..especially grimalkin.

:HA:: -face palms-

Also, forgot to mention, but the Kaka clan are also beast-men (originally genetically engineered using Juubei's DNA to be biological weapons). Makoto is a half-beast-man like Kokonoe. The term "human-like" is also sometimes used interchangeably.

Sounds like under that hood taokaka will look more like jubei than a human girl then? :P

Suzaku, I just read your Blazblue timeline post a few pages back and I wish to ask your opinion (and the other users as well). If the original Black Beast was the Dimensional Boundary Contact No 1, may we imply that Yuuki Terumi was the original 'Haku-men', I mean, the wielder (not owner) of the Susano'o Unit, but was killed after the first Dark War and turned into a ghost? (Which also would explain Noel's words during True Ending: "Dark Susano'o" and why he decided to 'use' Jin) Original Six Heroes: . Terumi (wearing the Susano'o Unit); . Valkenhayn; . Rachel's father (I'm just speculating, because of some following facts: the Alucard family is watching Terumi's steps as stated in the first post and Valkenhayn's dialog to Rachel in one of her paths 'Your father would be so proud'); . Nine; . Jubei; . ??? ---------------------------------------------------------- During the loops: . Terumi (wielding Ouroboros); . Jubei; . Valkenhayn . Hakumen (Jin); . Nine; . ???; What do you guys think?

(Which also would explain Noel's words during True Ending: "Dark Susano'o" and why he decided to 'use' Jin)

Original Six Heroes:

. Terumi (wearing the Susano'o Unit);

. Valkenhayn;

. Rachel's father (I'm just speculating, because of some following facts: the Alucard family is watching Terumi's steps as stated in the first post and Valkenhayn's dialog to Rachel in one of her paths 'Your father would be so proud');

. Nine;

. Jubei;

. ???

----------------------------------------------------------

During the loops:

. Terumi (wielding Ouroboros);

. Jubei;

. Valkenhayn

. Hakumen (Jin);

. Nine;

. ???;

What do you guys think?

It's a lot of speculation, and not much that can be confirmed, but my personal theory has been that Terumi's soul/spirit was originally bound to the Susano'o Unit before it passed on to Jin and his soul was bound to it. Hence, "Dark Susano'o".

I also think that during the first iteration's Dark War, in which the Black Beast was produced by the first dimensional boundary contact experiment, and before there was a Jin to become Hakumen, Terumi probably did use the Unit. In other words, he was probably the first "Hakumen", and Jin became Hakumen in every subsequent iteration.

As to the identity of the other hero during the first iteration, Rachel's father is certainly very plausible, but purely speculative. It's certainly not a bad theory.

And regarding Terumi's mention of "using Jin", it was probably in referance to the attack on Ragna's childhood home, in which Jin appeared to be helping Terumi.

Suzaku, I was wondering if you read anything that mentioned Litchi and the Boundary. I remember in the arcade, when facing Hakumen, he asked her what it was that she harvested from the Boundary, but she didn't answer him.

I've got a sneaking suspicion that she's gained immunity or at least resistance to the high levels of seither that would kill most other humans. When you lose to Nu in Arcade, she makes a comment along the lines of "termination of target possessing seither amp: complete". Furthermore, several context clues fit this theory. It's stated that seither concentration is higher at lower altitudes and thus the caste system of the hierarchical cities are designed with the poor farther down. The Kaka clan is known to be immune to these concentrations and their village is even farther down in altitude than the rest of Kagutsuchi. Litchi spends a sizable amount of time with the Kaka clan but has not been shown to suffer any ill effects.

A single winquote and a bit of circumstantial evidfence could be wrong but it fits into some things with her character. Seeking a way to neutralize seither (and possibly magic as a whole) will fit into Sector Seven's whole "FOR SCIENCE!" way of doing things. Seither immunity allows her to chase Arakune and possibly may have been part of her original plan for curing him. Also, as an actual doctor, seither immunity could simply be key to helping her treat those who have suffered ill effects from it taking into account the concept of "physician heal thyself".

Do we still need scans up of this? I just got the two that I purchased. If it's already posted up on the 'net, I'll avoid putting my 2nd Material Collection under the knife ;p. Otherwise, scanner All Green!

START SCANNING PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I WANT ALL HAKUMEN RELATED PICTURES FIRST,:yaaay: that also includes Jin pictures since he is the one you becomes hakumen.

Also on a side note after thinking long and hard about this, I believe hazama's drive IS terumi's nox. However, since he is not fighting as terumi he cannot use the full extent of his powers thus summons them from another portal like area in which terumi resides in and uses the ouroboros to attack. And just as how hazama now uses knives for his close range combat terumi back in the day had swords or something for close range combat.

Meaning that terumi most likely uses two different weapons the nox ouroboros for long range combat and something else which is knives/swords for close range combat. And that is my two cents on his, also why is nirvana so defensive around hakumen/valkenhayn in probably any other members of the 6 heroes wasn't she used as a force of good during the dark wars? Why would she be their enemy, unless there were others who were fighting with the black beast.

You know, $40 is not much a price for being praised by all blazblue-related community here, at srk and so on.

Actually, it will be great to have a scans even for all of those who have a printed copy... So your sacrifice will be MUCH appreciated =)

Do scan please! :yaaay: I looked at the dealers for the con I'm going to and Kinnokuniya isn't on the list. :( I can't think of any other US dealer that could have something this epic... I'll look anyway though...

Well, about to start cutting the binding/ figuring out the best way to separate the pages.

I guess a PDF file would suffice? or do you guys have any other preferred file format? Might take a few days to get everything scanned and uploaded... but it'sa comin'.

Might get around to scanning the booklets for some of the other goodies I got...

PNG is best for specific pics. You could PNG them and then just put them all in a ZIP or RAR file... Also, DRAMA CD! Is that available for download in MP3 anywhere? I only have it in some weird file type...

What's it about, anyway? I don't think Carl is in it...other wise, I would of whipped out my Japanese dictionary and start (to make an attempt to)translating it...

I don't really know. The file type I have only opens in Real Player or something weird... so I haven't listened to it. Yes I'm stupid. :psyduck: I guess I could listen to it one of these days and guess with my extremely little Japanese knowledge...

I got all the pages separated without damaging them. One page has a few scratches from the hobby knife (oops), but I can clean it up in photoshop. I'll start scanning when I get home from work today. The drama cd is a blast to listen to. I absolutely love the seiyuu for Blazblue, and this drama cd is certainly a great treat. It's really funny. One skit has Ragna as Ragnataro (Momotaro) and the crew reenacting the Momotaro story. It's really good stuff! I can never get enough of Jin's maniacal laugh, lol. Anyways, I'll keep you all updated. I'll probably be going with 300dpi PNGs then?
