kairless Posted April 9, 2011 Posted April 9, 2011 If ppl get serious about this, I will definitely play it. Always wanted to learn ggac.

evilben Posted April 11, 2011 Posted April 11, 2011 i could get down for some AC, i miss zappa long time
Jam_vermillion Posted May 5, 2011 Posted May 5, 2011 Wow, I didn't realize there were so many people in STL dedicated to these games, cool. I've been a GG nut ever since first playing the Dreamcast version of GGX (9 years ago?? Makes me feel so old...) but I've never really gotten involved in any competitions, except at anime cons, and THAT hardly counts. In fact I wasn't even aware of this online community until last week; of course I promptly signed up and I've been devouring the messageboards since then, this seems to be the most active St. Louis area board so I figured this was probably the place to post. So, anyway, my point, if I can stop rambling for long enough to reach it, is that I'd love to get a little bit more involved in my local GG/BB scene. I live, quite literally, in the middle of the woods in southern Illinois, and have no broadband internet so online play is out of the question, so, by necessity, I'm willing to drive wherever in Greater St. Louis for meetups and tourneys and ice cream socials or whatever-it-is you wacky kids do these days. Jam and Noel are my primaries (as if that wasn't obvious by my sn), so if anybody's wanting an IRL sparring partner, just drop me a line. I thank you for your consideration, and hope I haven't spread too much n00bsauce around by breaking into the thread.
AKA Posted May 6, 2011 Posted May 6, 2011 Jam_vermillion: Awesome, awesome! Don't worry, most of the GG heads are old men now anyway. The STL scene is actually experiencing a revival as more people are kind of cross-populating from other games. The GGXX scene here was pretty high level back in the day (2003-2005) but has since lost players. However, the experienced players here are still from that older crew. With all of the new players picking up the game, you'll probably find a wide range of competition. There's interest here and over at this thread on shoryuken.com (which is honestly more active, but feel free to post here): http://shoryuken.com/f21/stl-garbage-viii-garbage-3-0-dont-shake-my-hand-262190/index124.html. What is your schedule like? When are you willing to come out, etc? I'm going to be setting up regular hookups for games once this semester is over, which is basically after finals are done in the next two weeks. I'll post up about it and get a head count in advance within the next week and we'll go from there. Welcome home!
Jam_vermillion Posted May 6, 2011 Posted May 6, 2011 I'm sure Blaz Blue is helping bring back interest in Guilty Gear as well; all these kids who never even heard of GG are discovering Blaz Blue and liking it, then finding out "holy crap, these developers made LOTS of super-fast 2D fighting games!" As of right now, my schedule is fairly random since my job has full-time flex hours, which means that I work 40 hours a week at whatever times and whatever days they choose to schedule me. I'm hoping to get my old nighttime job back, in which case I'll be working overnights M-T-W-T-F and have all weekends off, that would make it much easier to reliably schedule daytime events. As of now, I'm generally free evenings on days I do work, and I'm off today, but my next days off won't be till next Thursday and Friday. And I'd be willing to travel wherever around STL, as long as there's a good group of people waiting for me at the other end...and it's not in a neighborhood I'm likely to get mugged/raped/killed, of course.
AKA Posted May 6, 2011 Posted May 6, 2011 People drive all over the place to wherever in order to play around here. I have a set schedule where I work Friday, Saturday, Sunday overnights and it's hard for me to change it. There are a ton of cool, talented players around here (and most of them don't even post here, some post on SRK, others on Tekkenzaibatsu, etc), but that's because of how the scene works around here. Dustloop is just dead for us, that's all. Someone should totally host a weekend hookup sometime and you should roll through! I'll try to get some of the guys from Columbia, MO (also awesome players and duders in general) to head here as well some weekend.
ludwig van Posted May 14, 2011 Posted May 14, 2011 Yo AKA, Deron/prod1gy/that Rachel player was planning on heading down to STL sometime next month to spend a weekend in STL and offered me to tag along. He was mostly planning on getting in games w/ PJ, and I was wondering if a weekend sometime next month would be a good time to get games in w/ you, or if you'd be working. I'd love to get in some CS2, AC, and maybe even MK9.
AKA Posted May 20, 2011 Posted May 20, 2011 Ohhhhh shit someone posted blargh, that's totally cool. My number is in this thread, so let me know what your plans are.
Jam_vermillion Posted May 24, 2011 Posted May 24, 2011 Ah, see? Maybe this site ISN'T dead after all ^^
AKA Posted June 1, 2011 Posted June 1, 2011 Man I post on SRK and rarely check this board at this point but I thought to and hey woah people posted. Hookup at my place this Thursday night. Marvel/BBCS2/GGXX/MK9. Two rooms, one CRT, one lagless (trust me) HDTV (360 VGA hookup), and plenty of room for another setup (or two). Kinda short notice, but this thread is generally not where I make plans. Next time I host a hookup, I will post it here as well (I swear!). Blargh, when exactly are you guys planning to come down again? Let me know. PEACE
ludwig van Posted June 20, 2011 Posted June 20, 2011 Hey, I'm not sure if the trip down is gonna happen. Every time we try to get a date set up a tourney happens the same day. I'll let you know when we get something set in stone.
ludwig van Posted July 16, 2011 Posted July 16, 2011 Hey STL, got some tournament info I wanna drop here. We have a Screenland Showdown happening on August 13-14, Team EMP and IFC Yipes coming to this! And AKA, still nothing in terms of a date for a trip down to STL, in case you were wondering.
MarkusArx Posted August 19, 2011 Posted August 19, 2011 Yo, just thought you guys would like to know about a tournament going down in September in Springfield. Link to page: http://www.dustloop.com/forums/showt...t=#post1101065
iw2ma Posted August 19, 2011 Posted August 19, 2011 good ol Missouri, I gots some things to say. First, ARK IV coming September 17th-18th, it's gotten quite huge. http://www.dustloop.com/forums/showthread.php?12280-9-17-18-11-ARK-IV-BB-CSII-MvC3-SSF4-MK9-Melee-Brawl-More!-Jacksonville-ARp also THIS WEEKEND Bit Wars in Norman Oklahoma, it's gonna be sweet. http://www.dustloop.com/forums/showthread.php?12151-Norman-OK-Aug-20-2011-Super-Bit-Wars!-SSF4-AE-MvC3-BBCS2-AH3-Melty-Blood
SmokeMaxX Posted August 23, 2011 Posted August 23, 2011 Hey guys, A.R.K. IV is coming up September 17th-18th in Jacksonville, AR! We are expecting ~200 people with games such as SSF4:AE, SF 3S:OE, Marvel Vs. Capcom 3, Mortal Kombat 9, Melee, Brawl, BB:CS II, and more! Competitors are coming in from at least 6-7 several states to compete! Note that our tournament is working on securing sponsorships from well known companies which will each be providing additional prizes and bonus pots for our tournaments. The Traveling Circus has expressed interest as of this time. Also, well-known regional modder DaRabidDuckie will be on hand to provide dual mods (PS3 <-> 360) for fight sticks. If you have ANY questions, please PM me or post on the official tournament thread here: http://www.dustloop.com/forums/showthread.php?12280-ARK-IV-BB-CSII-MvC3-SSF4-MK9-Melee-Brawl-More!&p=1106804#post1106804 I'd normally respond to replies on this thread, but I'm so busy with Med School that I don't have time (though I may check in once in a while if there's interest). Please try to make it and show your support not only for us, but for the regional BlazBlue community as a whole. Thanks guys!
Vegetable Posted September 12, 2011 Posted September 12, 2011 Hey so I'm stuck here in St Louis for boarding school for another 2 years, and as such, I have no controllers/sticks (all at home) and very limited means of transportation. Are there any casual meetups that play Guilty Gear or SSBM or SSBB around the Lindbergh area? Those are the only games I have played and practiced thoroughly thus far, and hence, the only ones I can fight against other players in. I also haven't played Accent Core either, but with my fundamental skills honed in #Reload, I think I should still do fine (but Sol and Slayer's combos are so different...and I really wanna try Order-Sol =S). I'm also interested in seeing some live BlazBlue matches as well. So if anyone can help get me out of this hellhole of a school, please let me know =S.
kairless Posted September 12, 2011 Posted September 12, 2011 ^^^ Dannos Pub has hook-ups every wednesday. they play all those and more. stl scene pretty much post only on srk. here's the link:http://shoryuken.com/forum/index.php?threads/stl-garbage-viii-garbage-3-0-dont-shake-my-hand.125234/
Vegetable Posted September 12, 2011 Posted September 12, 2011 Thanks a lot, but for one thing I'm not 21 haha. I'll look for other gatherings, though, thanks.
kairless Posted September 12, 2011 Posted September 12, 2011 (edited) you dont have to be 21 to play. you need to be 21 to drink though lol Edited September 12, 2011 by kairless
Grendy Posted November 28, 2011 Posted November 28, 2011 Hey guys I was just wondering if there's any scene for BB/GG casuals/ranbats out here in STL. I looked through the srk page but didn't really see anything for GG/BB. I'm gonna be moving out to Wright City (bout an hour from STL) in july and then probably somewhere in the surrounding area once I get situated. I realize this is kind of looking way ahead but I'd love to have some people to play with when I move out there since toledo doesn't have a scene for anything but smash =/
