Mitsurugi Posted August 21, 2008 Posted August 21, 2008 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1rhJWidEdOo Guys, check out this new video. Can anyone recognize this JO player or is he new? All I know is, he. is. good. One word: OCV. I usually don't (can't) watch movies so I can't recognize his playstyle but the speaker seems to say the Johnny player's name is Hiiro.

Killerwatt Posted September 1, 2008 Posted September 1, 2008 I figure this thread would be the best one to ask this: How can I record match videos using a laptop/macbook/etc?
qwerty Posted September 1, 2008 Posted September 1, 2008 depends. in general, what you want to do is route your ps2's output into the input of some recording device (camcorder, laptop, capture card, etc) and the output of that device to a tv. if you don't have a device with in and output, use a coupler/splitter to have the ps2's output run to both the recording device and the tv. as for a program to record with, you can use anything that allows you to capture input devices. vlc does this in linux, maybe the windows port can too? i'm not too sure of exactly what programs to use honestly, i usually just go the camcorder route. before you start looking for programs though, make sure that your laptop has some kind of input (if there's only one vga/composite/svideo port, then it only has output). if it doesn't (and most don't), then you'll have to get one of those really shitty usb adapters that lag like hell and look like shit (unless they make usb capture cards? highly doubtful). i wouldn't bother trying it with a laptop, simply because most laptops don't have the hardware to do it. find some old sony handycam on craigslist or something with composite in and record with that.
4r5 Posted September 1, 2008 Posted September 1, 2008 This thread would, http://www.dustloop.com/forums/showthread.php?t=112 , would be the better place to ask, for next time.
Jo Posted September 7, 2008 Posted September 7, 2008 Woo! Question time. Fellow Johnny players, I am seeking a video of awesome proportions. I heard from a friend of a friend of a friend that there's an (AC) Johnny video out with combos that are level 1 exclusive. Anyone know what I'm talking about? I heard there's BIG DAMAGE! Edit: Scratch this, it doesn't exist! Sorry d00ds.
10stars Posted September 9, 2008 Posted September 9, 2008 I got it up here, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3ASKTt9UKQY one frame links all over the place. I guess I'll make a post every time a new johnny vid comes out. my hand hurts from attempting this for the last 6 hours And i cant seem to do the 5k - 5hs MC 2D
qwerty Posted September 9, 2008 Posted September 9, 2008 a little off topic, but you know how pretty much every johnny combo vid shows him using his 1hko against aba when she transforms back to normal (when she says "suka")? has anyone ever been able to do this in an actual match?
Kadius Posted September 9, 2008 Posted September 9, 2008 my hand hurts from attempting this for the last 6 hours And i cant seem to do the 5k - 5hs MC 2D You are using level 2 MC, right? You've just got to get used to pressing 3 buttons a few frames apart. It's not as hard as it sounds, I do it on a pad. And yeah, MSY's MC stuff is somewhat hard to do. So many variables. I bet some of those combos take him 20+ tries. a little off topic, but you know how pretty much every johnny combo vid shows him using his 1hko against aba when she transforms back to normal (when she says "suka")? has anyone ever been able to do this in an actual match?Knocking her down three times in succession and then IK'ing her? I've done it quite a few times versus the computer, but I'd imagine it wouldn't work well on an opponent who has a burst and knows how to properly use it. I've also seen an obscure japanese JO pull it off in a real match, even misted her at the end.

I'm also learning all my johnny stuff on a pad which is awkward to me since i learned mvc2 in arcades, as well as T5 and all the other fighting games i got into. I want to find videos of Suzume, his MCs are sexy.

Killerwatt Posted September 10, 2008 Posted September 10, 2008 So by now I've seen my fair share of AC JO vids, and there seems to be some really great Johnny players on the scene. I'm curious to know what you guys think about them, and who you consider to be the best Johnny right now. Here are the one's I've seen: BLEED: To me, he is the best right now. Excellent pacing, zoning and AA defense, and has the ability to turn a match around at any point (for proof, youtube "best comeback by BLEED" and you'll see what I mean Kabegawia no DC: Very agressive JO, tends to spam the coins in his rushdown, but has shown that JO can be a force to be reckoned with coins or no coins. Jonio: He does things I haven't seen the other Johnnys do (Slashback Eddie "unblockables", Mist loop using Enkasu in the corner). He has great potential. I just wish I followed the Japanese scene better so I knew where he ranked, but since I can't read moonspeak it's tough. Omito: He is the only JO I've seen so far to win against a PO. Granted I probably haven't seen enough JO vids, but he was definitely the first. To me he's very patient, methodical, coin-conservative but once he gets that opening, it's going to fucking hurt. I once saw him do a combo on a BA that pretty much took off 3/4 of her health. Ouch. MK: Very few vids of him, but he seems to know his stuff. Can't really tell what sticks out in his game, but I see him win. Tends to fight SL often, with results that you could probably bet on Suzume: Seriously, what the hell happened to this guy? There are probably only 2 AC vids of him,but he is GOOD. His MCing and pressure strings are godlike; and that vid of him where he murders an ABA after cranking up her Guard Guage with MC pressure was poetry in motion. If anyone knows what happened to him please tell; I think he could very well be at BLEED's level. That's it so far. Really interested in hearing what you guys think. If I got my facts mixed up please let me know; I'm not the best JO evaluator. Thanks.
render Posted September 10, 2008 Posted September 10, 2008 Neither Jonio or Omito are new. I've been watching Omito since #R first came out.
Killerwatt Posted September 10, 2008 Posted September 10, 2008 Neither Jonio or Omito are new. I've been watching Omito since #R first came out. Thanks render; post edited to reflect my corrections.
render Posted September 10, 2008 Posted September 10, 2008 haha, not a big deal. Just nitpicking. :3 In my personal opinion, I think DC and Omito are the best of the Johnny players that are most prominent. Keep in mind that there are a LOT of really good players that we don't know about or don't show up in vids. I think BLEED is an excellent player. His Johnny has a LOT of momentum, and that can be pretty intimidating for the opponent, but he rushes into things a little too much for my tastes. DC is the same way, but plays much smarter, IMO. Omito, as you said, is very careful and patient. His defense is really strong and he almost never wastes coins or lvl2/3 mist finers. Suzume is THE HOTNESS, but he doesn't show up in tourney results (or at least, tournies that have been recorded). Looking at results, though, I've seen BLEED make it a lot further than any other Johnny player, albeit largely in team tournaments. Anyone seen a Johnny player named Hiro play? I think he's really good too. And anyone remember Matsushin?? wtf happened to that guy?
Equalizer Posted September 10, 2008 Posted September 10, 2008 You're probably the only person who thinks DC plays smarter than BLEED. DC is able to deal damage without coins though, if he ever manages to hit someone. Suzume does do some sick combos, but, once again, only if he manages to get hits in. The newest youtube video I've seen of him is probably this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m5fQsnibr7Q. BLEED is probably the most consistent out of all the Johnnys out there, but since he seems to have disappeared or something, I'll have to rely on watching videos of other Johnnys such as Hero/Hiro, MK, Omito etc. I think Sanma is going back to using Johnny as well so I'd like to see how his Johnny fares in AC.
render Posted September 10, 2008 Posted September 10, 2008 omg Sanma is going back to Johnny? I can't wait to see how he plays him in AC. I think once DC gets all that change out of his pockets he plays really smart. Better than BLEED? Debatable, though at an obvious disadvantage without lv2 MFs. I really love watching how different Johnny players play. Everyone uses him so differently. Maybe we should start a new thread? haha talk about what Johnny playstyles are out there and look a vids to help people pick up good habits and strings/combos? That'd be interesting.
Killerwatt Posted September 10, 2008 Posted September 10, 2008 Hiro!! Totally forgot about him; mostly because there's only like 2 vids out there of him that I've seen. He's great; If I'm not mistaken I think I saw him OCV a team of SL, ED and BA! Gotta keep an eye out for him definitely. render, I totally agree with you, which is why I brought this issue up. Seeing the way other JO players play him is very awe inspiring, and not to be biased but I think the differences in his playstyle among JO players stand out more than say, the myriad Sol Badguys out there ("teyah!!!!") At first I wanted to make a thread devoted to JO players but since they are related to the vids we watch I thought I'd post here first. If 4r5 or Redbeard don't mind us talking about it here that's cool but I'd like to hear input from them first before I make a new thread for this discussion.
Xaphiel Posted September 10, 2008 Posted September 10, 2008 Not to slander Kabegiwa no DC's name, and not like I have anything against him... but honestly, I'm not a huge fan. I never find myself really rooting for him to win like I do other JO players. He wins, and he's good.. but I don't like his style at all. Honestly, I think he does so well, in part, because he's so unorthodox in his playstyle. But any time that his opponent just plays keepaway and is patient, DC ends up throwing *all* his coins into thin air without landing one.. it's almost humiliating, really. I just don't think most people are used to his strange playstyle and get nailed by a hit from him.. now, here's where I give him props: His execution is pretty darn good, and he gets good damage off of the hits he connects with usually. I guess it works but... not a big fan.
qwerty Posted September 10, 2008 Posted September 10, 2008 suzume: the absolute best, by far. it's a shame his team didn't do too well in sbo 2007. omito: very good. only JO i've seen who can consistently beat PO. dc: strange play style, but it seems to work. at least he can do as well with coins as he can do without. bleed: pretty good, but too bread and butter. i think the reason he doesn't win as much as dc is because he's more predictable. i will say though, that he is the king of comebacks. hiro: only seen him play a few times, but he came off as being very skilled. mk: kinda a crossbreed of omito and dc in terms of style. arguably the most interesting JO to watch. jonio: don't see much of him anymore, but he seems to play like alot like bleed. also seems to lose alot.
