It's not entirely uncommon to FRC a special move into another special move. Combined with what you have to press to do an FRC (3 attack buttons), that requires a helluva lot more dexterity than the other things you've listed. In some cases it's even harder: try, for example, doing an FRC with Bridget while holding Heavy Slash to keep his Yo-Yo spinning.

It's just a matter of muscle memory, so once you've gotten it you can generally be quite consistent with it. But getting it in the first place takes shitloads of practice. D:

Reason why GG is normally shunned by the non-GG players. It takes a hell of alot more practice to be good at GG than most other fighters out there currently. Highly rewarding though if you put the time into it.

Untrue. I picked it up rather quickly before I was even introduced to it. And I've sucked at a lot of fighting games before GG. But the controls clicked with me within just a few days of playing it in the mornings before school.

:psyduck: I've been playing GG for like 5 years now but since for some reason I never bothered to learn any technical things... I know nothing. I recognize this. However, as much as I'd love to be actually good the idea of having to basically relearn everything is daunting... Where the heck would I start? :psyduck:

SF4 players complaining about BB's complexity is like painters saying that sculpting requires too much time. I mean I guess that they could say that, but really it doesn't make sense when you look at either game closely.

Back and down+back is block. Forward, or Back, and HardSlash is Throw. Down+Punch is everyone's fastest, or second fastest, attack.

Oh, a second question. FRCs are famously regarded as ridiculously difficult. Yet, as I understand it, its just pressing RC during a small frame window during certain moves? (is that correct?) If so, isnt it about the same as 1-frame links, Just Defence and other things with tight timing? Why is it considered so hard?

They're are no shortcuts to FRCs period. 1-frame links you can double tap, parrys you can do something like input it between moves and if your opponent does attack the parry will already be there etc. FRCs you just have to learn the timing. A lot of stuff in this game you just have to learn the timing. Airthrows, throw breaks, SB, and FRCs all do with timing. This isnt even the character specifics....oh yeah speaking of character specifics this game has to be the most character specific faggotry ever. We got combos for light characters, mid weight, heavy weight, sol's horizontal ass hitbox(yes sol/hos/faust is grouped under this), tall, short, big sprite, small sprite, etc. We got combos with no tension, 25%, 50%, 75%, 100%, off of counter hit, raised guard gauge bs, dust combos, clean hits, sliding, ground bounce, wall bounce, wall stick, jump installs, super jump installs, air dash momentum, run then jump momentum. GG require you to have superb execution, just to do the regular bs. Then if you wanna have a chance at beating anyone worth their salt you cant just be doing the regular crap, you gotta have character specifics to squeeze out that extra 50-60 whatever damage or just a knockdown. This not even including match-up experience which EVERY CHARACTER is different. 23 yep, new combos, new gameplan, new player etc. This thread is full of paragraphs.

Slightly offtopic, but I have a question. I've heard people say that IB is too good in BB, but yet in top match videos, I see people IB all the time, but rarely retaliate afterwards. It certainly seems a far cry from 3S where a successful parry seems to almost guarantee punishment.

Why is it too good? What detrimental effect on the gameplay does it have?

I'm still interested in this if anyone can help me.

...A lot of older 2D Fighters are like that, you know. Replace HeavySlash with HeavyPunch/Kick for grabs.

The reason IB is too good in BB is because of how effective it is in letting you get out of pressure strings(ie. backdash, jump). It's part of the reason why the majority of the best characters in CT were all projectile based, with block strings based off of projectiles (Nu) or pressure strings with ambiguous endings that are often themselves mix-ups (rachel, arakune). Moves don't typically come out fast enough in BB to capitalize off of IB offensively. This makes pressure less effective for most characters, which leaves that portion of the game entirely to the big 3.

Two things, one, i was fucking five when it all started, so don't give me bullshit about being a moron at five, everyone else was too. Secondly, what the fuck is your deal honestly? We're singling you out because you have no damn clue what you're talking about. Dandy wrote a good paragraph of why GG is so damn hard to get into and you still continue on that GG is 'easy' crap. Seriously, just stop.

Also, does it not occur to you that some people have a talent for these sort of games? These games are easy to get into for those people.

So you play your friend right and every fucking time he plays you he mops the floor with your face, 2 things happen: you dont care(good for you), or you do care(awwww). If you dont care you play your scrubby heart out enjoy the game for the gallery and music etc. If you do care...you want to step you game up amiright?

Guilty Gear is the one of the hardest games to "step your game up in" is what i am saying. Why the fuck would you even be in forums like Dustloop of SRK if you didnt somewhat want to step your game up in something(be in matchup experience or combos). Oh wait to talk about Pandas.

Stepping up you game can be as easy as doing combos, learning match-ups, or hard as finding someone of equal or better skill level to play you constantly. SFIV is great for the casual player, why? because almost every basic function you can do in this game is doable by a casual player. Little practice is needed to pull out Ex moves, ultras, or focus attacks, fadc, basic links and what have you. SFIV wants you to get in the game fast. So you can get your ass handed to you. This makes you want to be better at the game. GG, especially in areas not called Japan do the opposite. You get mad at the game, frustrated how you cant do something, no one plays, or lack of hype. But you continue out of shear love for the game or shear hate for your fellow rival...either way

the only reason i play gg is for the elitism that comes naturally when playing a game THAT IS SO IMPOSSIBLE TO PLAY OMG

that elitism is only something you can get from fucking games that make you break you controller. Every competitive game can do this but its the journey that counts. SFIV is an enjoyable hike with you GF, you meet cool people along the way and you learn new things. You can become a professional hiker but you dont have too. Hiking with your GF is enough cause she is always there for you. GG is a thinking you,re going for a hike but you are actually climbing up mount Everest and IF you meet people there they are just like you who hate the fucking cold but want to get to the top. Lots of people of course die to frost bite. But that feeling of perfection is what we strive for. That long ass journey is what makes the game fun. Those 2 hours a day practicing one character specific combo to hate on your friend's Johnny =D. Casuals dont like climbing too much.

It's clear from what you just wrote that when you talking about getting into the game, you mean improving enough to beat someone who is not slightly better than you, but much better than you. Yes, this can be very hard in guilty gear. But it's also not what Koja was talking about when everyone started flaming him.

Also what you've said about SF makes me think you haven't ever tried to beat someone in it who is much better than you at that game or only play it casually yourself. If both you were terrible, then sure it's not that hard, but this is true in GG also. If the other person is tournament winning caliber and you're new to the game though, then good luck. The execution barrier can be just as high in SF (Viper anyone?) as it often is in GG, and the player skill is still just as big of a barrier.
