HZMN Posted December 21, 2009 Posted December 21, 2009 It's clear from what you just wrote that when you talking about getting into the game, you mean improving enough to beat someone who is not slightly better than you, but much better than you. Yes, this can be very hard in guilty gear. But it's also not what Koja was talking about when everyone started flaming him. Also what you've said about SF makes me think you haven't ever tried to beat someone in it who is much better than you at that game or only play it casually yourself. If both you were terrible, then sure it's not that hard, but this is true in GG also. If the other person is tournament winning caliber and you're new to the game though, then good luck. The execution barrier can be just as high in SF (Viper anyone?) as it often is in GG, and the player skill is still just as big of a barrier. eh not really. Viper is the exception in SFIV and tbh when i first saw her, she seemed REALLY out of place in a SF game, she seemed more inline with what SNK would produce. Player skill will always be an obvious barrier, but the gap that barrier creates is vastly larger in GG than it is in SF. In SF it might take just a little bit better execution and better knowledge of the matchup to bridge the gap. Which that might take a few days of practice in training and a little while longer in actual match execution GG can be as simple as SF to uber complex in learning the FRC (not easy), character specifics, IBing better, learning the matchup, ect. Which realistically can take awhile just to get timings down against a training dummy, let alone actually doing it in a match where everything is going at a frantic pace.
Kojanue Posted December 21, 2009 Posted December 21, 2009 Eh, I'm used to the flaming honestly. At least people gave me a reason this time, whereas retards on gaia give you no reason whatsoever =w=
Mr. Mamation Posted December 21, 2009 Posted December 21, 2009 What is a gia and why do I keep hearing about it?
Koozebanian Fazoob Posted December 21, 2009 Posted December 21, 2009 Gaia Online, I think it's the biggest online community on the entire internet currently. As you can probably expect, it's absolute, 100% concentrated stupidity. I don't really have words in my vocabulary strong enough to insult the likes of Gaia Online.
Circuitous Posted December 22, 2009 Posted December 22, 2009 Where everyone's goth or in their underpants, signatures are as long as the average Dustloop page and not a single goddamned person knows what a period is*. * The punctuation or the pubescent bodily function. They're illiterate pre-teens is what I'm getting at.
Kojanue Posted December 22, 2009 Posted December 22, 2009 Except for us oldies in there. Hell, if you really want to find literate people, go to the Roleplaying threads, you have better luck there than you would here in a long shot. >.> And I'm not goth but I'm there. Now can we please get back on subject here?

Circuitous Posted December 22, 2009 Posted December 22, 2009 Gwyrgyn meant "biggest online advertising-laden pseudo-game community." Also, forum RP is bad enough, but on Gaia? Jesus Christ, man. Anyway, what were we talking about? Viper = SNK? I don't get the reference, as I rarely play SNK fighters. Played the shit out of Garou back on GameTap, though. I should get GameTap again, damn.

HZMN Posted December 22, 2009 Posted December 22, 2009 Eh I meant in playstyle as well as looks, but I guess thats a good example

Blackgenma Posted December 22, 2009 Posted December 22, 2009 so I guess all women in suits must have been inspired by SNK right? c'mon.
Guilty Soul Posted December 22, 2009 Posted December 22, 2009 so I guess all women in suits must have been inspired by SNK right? c'mon. No, its just SNK does a better job when it comes down to it:grin:
zeech Posted December 22, 2009 Posted December 22, 2009 Viper is so much uglier, less tasteful and unstylish compared to Mature/Vice/Vanessa/Elizabeth

Actually I think I saw a bunch of people into this site when I was in my sophmore year of high school.
Soothesayer Posted December 23, 2009 Posted December 23, 2009 Viper is so much uglier, less tasteful and unstylish compared to Mature/Vice/Vanessa/ElizabethWell to be honest the same could be said with most of SF's cast compared to KOF's, KOF just oozes more flair and variety, both in looks and move sets. I like SF's gameplay more since it usually feels more solid and polished but I prefer KOF in just about every other aspect. SF3 series' Remy certainly has the KOF flamboyance though.

Chrome Homura Posted December 23, 2009 Posted December 23, 2009 I must say, second'd on KOF's cast being more awesome than SF. They do sorta win in the character design department. Though as far as gameplay goes, personally I prefer KOF because SF is far too slow for my tastes. From what I understand it's not as bad as BB (where if I remember correctly time outs happen even at high level play, and somewhat often at that) but still. KOF is nice and fast (even moreso than GG at times I'd say) and I like that even if I tend to fail miserably at it. I actually haven't played any KOF game in forever though, so meh. I <3 King though.

Bison and Rolento have the coolest character designs ever. ever ever ever.
Blade Posted December 23, 2009 Posted December 23, 2009 Screw you guys, I prefer wierd shit fighters like Darkstalkers, Warzard, and Waku-Waku 7, Cyberbots and Gundam Battle Assault. And fighters with swords like Last Blade and Samurai spirits.

Mekki-Maru Posted December 23, 2009 Posted December 23, 2009 Every forum knows their game is the best and all the other ones are trash-tier scrub bullshit. I don't feel like Guilty Gear really had that much more to learn than most other fighting games; it just front-loads the process. Most people's eyes start to glaze over as soon as you get much farther than "these are your attack buttons, this is your super meter." The only place BlazBlue really improves on this over Guilty Gear is that the names of things actually make sense. "Counter Assault" is fairly self-explanatory, "Dead Angle Attack" doesn't really mean anything to most people. Tekken certainly isn't a simple game. You've got command lists that are 100 moves long. There are reversals, chickens, parries, and just frames. You have to keep track of bounds and wall hits to maximize combo damage. There are something like 24 ways just to get up after a knockdown. The difference is that you don't have to learn all of that right in the beginning. You can sit someone down for the first time, say "these are your attacks, this moves you around," and they can sit down and reasonably play.
Blade Posted December 23, 2009 Posted December 23, 2009 Who said you have to learn everything right away for Guilty Gear or any other fighters for that matter? Every game has learning curves, some may be steep, but never impossible. I'd say learning to beat a shmup like Ikaruga without dying is harder than learning the basics and standards of ANY fighting game, bar-none. Don't single out GG for that. Everything takes time, it all boils down to invested interest to learn.
Mekki-Maru Posted December 23, 2009 Posted December 23, 2009 I'd say learning to beat a shmup like Ikaruga without dying is harder than learning the basics and standards of ANY fighting game, bar-none. Memorizing Ikaruga well enough to 1CC it is harder than learning the basics of a fighting game? No shit. "Beating Ikaruga without dying" is not the same as "learning the basic mechanics of Ikaruga." Don't single out GG for that. Did you actually read my post?
Safetyman Posted December 23, 2009 Posted December 23, 2009 I play Guilty Gear because I like it, Is that ok? fuck, now I'm just waiting for someone to post a thread asking if they should wipe their ass once or twice. If you can't answer these kinds of questions for yourself and aren't willing to give it a try then don't play the fucking game. sorry if something like this was said before.
