Badguy Posted June 25, 2007 Posted June 25, 2007 Sorry if i should include this somewhere else... Does anyone have any common burst examples? Im trying to learn to anticipate burst attempts to either block them or better yet warrant burst attempts. So can anyone give me any advice on this?
Bakugami Posted July 7, 2007 Posted July 7, 2007 Well, I wouldn't advise using Warrant for that, cause if they don't burst, you're in for a world of hurt. *Maybe* if they're airborne, since they'd have to tech first. If I think they're going to burst, I typically starting using a lot of 5P, 2P, and j.P in my combos. It's quick and will more than likely allow you to block in time if they burst. Other than that, using JCable stuff like c.S allows you to just JC when you think they're going to burst. It's pretty safe, at least. Testament seems to have a lot of burst safe stuff anyway. 5D, 6P, HS EXE and sometimes even 1-hit Badlands (which you shouldn't burst anyway) will cause Bursts to whiff a lot.
aiban Posted November 12, 2007 Posted November 12, 2007 note on burstss: the "BURST" symbol[yeah the one blinking near the life bar] actually disappears first, before the gold burst or blue bursts appears. so you have about...3-5 frames to react..more time if you anticipate the burst.
ansem Posted November 12, 2007 Posted November 12, 2007 if there waiting for you to approach them there would probably use the burst there to fill up tension bar don't fall for that
geist Posted November 12, 2007 Posted November 12, 2007 if there waiting for you to approach them there would probably use the burst there to fill up tension bar don't fall for that not really....a gold burst will most likely be used in some sort of frame, trap, or in gaps of pressure strings. as for "blocking" burst attempts, most of the time it's more of AVOIDING burst attempts. you can go about this one of SEVERAL different ways -canceling strings early into EXEbeast FRC -standing dust while somewhat far (he leans back so if you're far enough you get the whiffed burst and possibly a hit, if theyDON'T burst, you can always follow up the Dust, since it's got +4 on block IIRC) -RCing on reaction...hard but doable -use of jump cancelable moves, or moves that have short enough recovery to block. If you've ever watched a shounen video, you'll probably notice a LOT of times where he'll opt to use punch a few times in a combo, this is probably to bait bursts, or at least make the opponent not want to burst. Either way, if they burst or not you'll probably still get the knockdown and a skull (assuming you were doing a one-hit set-up) -Air throw on anticipation or reaction. This goes together with using Jump-cancelable moves. if you can see (or anticipate) their burst...go for the air grab. if they're in the corner...do a nice little combo ^_^ on a side note, zeinest is KINDA an anti-burst sometimes...it seems like at least every other match I'll lay a zeinest right during the burst, and it'll catch them as they land
Caer-caveral Posted March 21, 2008 Posted March 21, 2008 While saving this from pruning, I might as well say something on the matter: I hate Testaments combos from a bursting perspective. Without tension, badlands is always burstable (if it's a 2-hit), and even with tension, they can still always time their bursts before the first hit on reaction, meaning Testa is just screwed in that regard. As soon as you combo needs a BL, which is common, your only choices are doing it and eating a burst just to get rid of it, or just do net or something instead and hope the opponent is a bit too jittery and burst too fast. This basically destroys most burstreading for Testa as he isn't really given a chance for it in the first place. Now, the only move testa has that's actually fully burstsafe is 5P. All others recover too slowly and will eat a burst if whiffed. He also only has 2 jumpcancelables on the ground with 5S and 5K, meaning he has a hard time using them against bursts. More often than not your choices keep boiling down to warrant or RC if you really want to avoid that burst. EXE FRC is also nice though if you are ready for it, but I find it very difficult to try and option select it, meaning you either anticipate a burst or you take a combo from it, can't really keep both. I'm still waiting for someone to do the best burst dodge ever: dodge with Dust, then FRC it and punish
