ELC1837 Posted December 31, 2009 Posted December 31, 2009 Right now, I do fairly well with Ky and Potemkin against the CPU (haven't found any other local players yet), beating Black EX Justice in Survival mode with Ky and getting within 1 to 2 fights of I-No with no continues with both on Normal*. I've gotten all of their special moves down to 70-80% success rate in execution save for force breaks, and have gotten used to using their regular attacks in terms of pokes and mix-ups. But I'm not sure if I want to use Chipp as my 3rd character to master once I'm done with Ky and Potemkin. Who else would you suggest, based on my choices for the 3 characters mentioned so far? *Yes, I know that isn't really impressive: still good for 4 days into the series though.
EternalLurker Posted December 31, 2009 Posted December 31, 2009 Not bad for 4 days in. Personally, I envy you for having Chipp and Potemkin in your top three. My overall game would probably be improved dramatically by learning Potemkin. If you've got Potemkin in your top two, I second your choice of Chipp as a third. Alternately, Millia. Most DLers would*probably suggest stopping with 2 characters, though.
ELC1837 Posted January 1, 2010 Author Posted January 1, 2010 Thanks. To be honest, I'm going to a 3rd character primarily because of my 2nd character Potemkin being one extreme of the tankiness-mobility spectrum and having a tricky game against characters with a range-game. Chipp seemed like a good option on the other extreme, particularly since teleporting ruins the ranged game with good prediction. I'll have to try Milia out though: I haven't played as her yet since nothing really stood out about her CPU playstyle. I heard she is one of the best rushdown characters thought, so I'll have to see how well she complements Pot in that aspect.
shezmu Posted January 1, 2010 Posted January 1, 2010 Might just be me, but (trying to) learning I-no is really improving my execution skills. Through if you want to learn someone for comp. purposes, then I believe Axl might be a good choice. IIRC, he has good match-ups against the right characters, which is a reason why I main him.
zdravkelja Posted January 1, 2010 Posted January 1, 2010 Chipp is a good choice, I like him Learn more characters... For example, I learned 8 characters (Ky, Sol, Order Sol, Eddy, Johnnya, Baiken, Chipp, Testament...) and I'm very, very good with them.. I still main just Chipp, Ky and Testament. It's fun to learn as much as you can. An then you can also know what to expect when you fight against them I would like to learn I-no, since she is, in my opinion, very hard to learn (Chemical love FRC air dash , and she doesnt have an ordinary dash). Like shezmu said, she can improve execution skills since she has more complicated motions...
SIne Posted January 16, 2010 Posted January 16, 2010 Chemical love frc is one of the easiest parts of playing I-no... matchups, setting up your opponent and consistency of you combos are the hardest part...
Digital Watches Posted January 16, 2010 Posted January 16, 2010 1. Don't you live in Kentucky? 2. I'd say don't take secondaries too seriously until you've gotten good at your first character.
ELC1837 Posted January 16, 2010 Author Posted January 16, 2010 Yeah, the NoKY area to be precise (closer to Ohio than anywhere in Kentucky really). And I'm just trying to get a couple of characters down so I have a few options to work with in case of crappy match-ups such as Pot vs. Bridget or Chipp vs. Pot (I haven't really had any trouble playing with Ky, but I'm sure he isn't perfect either). Thanks for reminding me that I haven't really worked on Ky at all lately: I should work on using him today.
Frank The Tank Posted January 17, 2010 Posted January 17, 2010 You're better off learning how to play your crappy matchups with your main. It will make you a better player in the long run, along with making you much less vulnerable to counter-picking.
Jakestation Posted January 18, 2010 Posted January 18, 2010 i´d recommend either eddie venom or millia eddie will teach you a lot about controls and inputs what the game requires. venom will teach you everything about zoning and pressure, and what happens if you fail at zoning. millia will teach you everything about mad mixups and speed why i´m not recommending chipp is that he happens to be so bad even in good hands :/

Have you played a good chipp?
ELC1837 Posted January 18, 2010 Author Posted January 18, 2010 I have to agree with DW: Chipp can be beastly if approach an opponent with the right strategy. Also, I can't play Eddie on a pad: I don't think anyone can. I've tried seeing it would work with May's hoops and using them with her ODs, but it just seems awkward at best. btw, new line-up needed: keeping Ky and Chipp, but looking for another tank-like character due to being unable to use P.Buster right now (current pad doesn't register hc motions quickly enough: I have to tilt my thumb a certain way on the last 4 or 6 and wait until it clicks before I do the next motion, and by then I've already eaten a combo or two).
MacArthur Blunts Posted January 18, 2010 Posted January 18, 2010 Also, I can't play Eddie on a pad: I don't think anyone can. Latif can. It's true. Also, stop at 2 characters. Also #2 - ... Also #3 - you life in kentuckeh. Go to the ranbat in fairfield ohio this weekend for comp. I have to work I think so I may not be there but plenty of GG players will.
Jakestation Posted January 18, 2010 Posted January 18, 2010 Sorry uh... Have you played a good chipp? goga is the best chipp in europe guess he would also be the best in states. yes he beats me, but i think he is above good
Klaige Posted January 18, 2010 Posted January 18, 2010 goga is the best chipp in europe guess he would also be the best in states. yes he beats me, but i think he is above good First off, isn't joe higashi the best chipp in europe considering he's gone to SBO like twice? 2nd off, lol at him being better than the likes of Lil majin. Like the guy or not his chipp is unbelievable. On a more serious note: Don't worry about a 3rd or even a 2nd character, most people can't play their main properly. Lack of comp in the states requires you to learn even more with your character.
Jakestation Posted January 18, 2010 Posted January 18, 2010 goga is way above joe and team france got into sbo always ´cause there never were real qualifiers held. they just played in france and mostly french? ppl attended. there is plenty of matchvideos of goga´s chipp in youtube, you can also ask from marn and flash what they think about his chipp these are not the latest, but from SBO 2009 qualifiers http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fbKe1091YjE&feature=related goga vs Xzi http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rwX-N6dskfs&feature=related goga vs Flashmetroid
Honnou Posted January 19, 2010 Posted January 19, 2010 I don't know whether or not goga is better than Joe, but having met Joe first hand and watching him play, isn't it safe to say that Joe has more japanese player experience? I also thought Dreammaker(Dreamweaver?? cant remember exactly, the really good Anji from France) was great too!
Nehle Posted January 19, 2010 Posted January 19, 2010 Does Joe even play anymore? Regardless, I played against Joe in Showdown 3 and against Goga in Showdown 4 and to me it seems that Goga is the better of the two.
