This entire post is subject to updates as Vierge and I find out more information. We’re looking to have everything updated and confirmed by the end of the week. If you have any comments/suggestions/complaints, by all means PM me or post up.

Introduction:

The pinnacle of academia is not to be confused with the absence of gratification. Alas, the fissiparous nature of such concepts is but a mere construction of your subscription to the media. The (chocolate-covered) quarks of February 5th through the 7th will be the host to an amalgam of scholarly pursuit, daring execution, and the greatest victories that any of you reading this post will ever hope to achieve. If you are of quick wit, you have already grasped what awaits you in the blistery northern campus of the University of Connecticut. Hailing from what might be considered a discourse of digital mayhem, let us celebrate our competitive spirit with some good ol' fashioned fighting games.

Information:

UCon@UConn is a convention based around anime, games, video games, movies, music, and just about any other area of entertainment in the world. It is a three-day event that will start on Friday February 5th and end on Sunday February 7th. During this time, there will be tons of activities for participants including: anime and movie screenings, casual video games as well as tournaments, tabletop games, card games, board games, guest speakers from the entertainment industry, panels open for discussion on a variety of topics, and a multitude of performances both user supported and professional. There will also be a “vendor’s room” open during the entire convention where people can either show and display their goods for sale (relative to the convention itself), or con-goers can walk around, browse, and maybe purchase an item or two.

Visit http://sites.google.com/site/uconatuconn/ for more information, such as the convention schedule, parking, etc.

Featured Games (We can add/remove games if there is enough/not enough interest. This list is just a default guideline.):

Street Fighter IV

Address:

2120 Hillside Road

Storrs, CT, 06269

Saturday

There is absolutely no fee to get into the convention. However, you must register with the convention staff beforehand. There will be a table dedicated to registration on the first floor of the Student Union. Registration and sign-in starting at 12:00pm on Friday, with the convention officially opening at 2:00pm.

Concerning the fighting game tournaments, there will be registration fees to enter each fighting game. The registration fees for each game will then be placed in a dedicated collection of money (a "pot"), which will then be distributed to the winner/top 3 of each respective tournament. Preliminary registration fees for each game are as follows:

Guilty Gear XX: Accent Core - $5

Melty Blood: Actress Again - $5

Blazblue: Calamity Trigger - $5

Tekken 6: Bloodline Rebellion - $5

Miscellaneous:

-If anyone is willing to help out even if just for a couple of hours, you are by all means welcome. At this point in time we are understaffed, so by volunteering you will be helping the convention as a whole run more smoothly. Just there is no confusion, I will say right now that volunteering will NOT get you any benefits whatsoever. This is a free convention brought forth by the cooperative efforts of the students of UConn, so only volunteer if you are interested in helping for the sake of helping. If you're still interested, e-mail brain.falkner@uconn.edu and state your name, what days/times you are willing to help, and what area/aspect for which you want to volunteer.

-WE NEED SETUPS! This includes game systems, games (especially MBAA), and TV's. Aside from the three HDTV's to which VGO has regular access, Friendly Fire Game Center (who is hosting the other portion of the video game room) will only have LCD monitors. While this might be okay for games run on the PS3, I'm almost positive that someone will be upset about a lag-related issue. To avoid this, we must bring any and all CRT TV's ourselves. If you wish to bring a setup, PM me or post in this thread.

Such pontification must reciprocated in a exultation manifested from the exceedingly genteel nature evoked from the ubiquital explication of the penultimate paragraph. Yes, I will attend TM.

I'm definitely looking into going. It'd be great if you could post up as soon as you find out on which day(s) the tournaments will be held.

I had a meeting with the staff of Ucon@Uconn tonight, and it has been decided that there will be two tournaments per day, sometime in the afternoon. I have to check in with Dan of Friendly Fire (a LAN center affiliated with VGO) to see when and on what days he is running his tournaments and what equipment I would be able to use so I can schedule accordingly. Just be forewarned that they're not going to start nearly as late as the $1 BG tournaments. Since there are two tournaments per day, people should voice what games ought to run on what days. Perhaps GG/T6 on Friday, SFIV/MvC2 on Saturday, and MB/BB on Sunday would be good days/combinations?

Hey, Mindgame I just wanted to let you know PlaynTrade in Danbury is thinking about having a SF4 tourney that same weekend. They made a thread about it already so you should check it out and let them know about this. Just look in the tourney and events thread on SRK.

If by some chance I get the parts for my stick to dual mod it, I'll be going for BB. Potential first tourney.

Most excellent! If you need any help doing the dual mod, I have a slew of useful diagrams that might help make sense of it all. It's tedious, but fundamentally simple. All you will need is a steady hand, a bit of forethought, and patience.

Times and days for each of the tournaments are now up! I'll also be updating later on with the other tournaments that we'll be offering, just to give people a glimpse of what we'll have to offer in terms of gaming.

I gotta request some time off for this shit.

Also, for MvC2, you should update your rules for that with EVO tournament standard rules. Except you can keep it on PS3 if you like.

Double Edit!: I also vote we add Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix. :D

Thank you for the link to the standard rule set, since I was at a loss as to what was/wasn't allowed in Marvel.

Concerning HDR, we can only run 6 games at the moment. Either THE PEOPLE will have to choose which game will get the boot, or you'll have to wait a little while I go see if I can run an extra tournament (I suppose it would be a good idea to find out when exactly this convention is closing...). Also, just to let everyone know, I have now posted this thread on SRK, TZ, and MB.

I'll be coming for Friday and Saturday (possibly Sunday as well if I'm lucky). Are you going to need any setups for the tournaments? I could bring a setup for GGAC and SF4 minus tvs if that would be of help. edit: I'm really looking forward to this! Haven't had the opportunity to play a live opponent since NEC. Gotta practice up.

Looks like I'll go for Saturday and Sunday! Do you need help with setups? Can bring a PS3 with SFIV and a PS2 with GG.

Posted

I've added a "miscellaneous" section with information regarding setups. In short, yes, we need setups and TV's. I should also create a list for setups...at this rate, this post will be an excellent template for anyone to use.

When I run the GG tournament, I'm only going to have HnK running and then I will deny all claims that it is not GG. Also, you might as well bring your 360+T6, since I do not know how many setups we will need in the end. Your PS2 with GG is most certainly welcome.

Ouch Man. you'll be missing out on the Guilty if you can't make it Friday

I like this idea!

Also, I think you should ban Easy Specials for Blazblue but keep macros.

Done and done. Thanks for bringing that up, I completely forgot about BB:EO.

This sounds like a ton of fun, I'll try my best to get down there. Gotta get back in the BBCT grove after playing so much CS.

Sorrow shall grip nobody, for I have changed GG to Saturday at 3pm. I have also removed Marvel from the lineup. Also, do note that if people want pots to be bigger/smaller, they can certainly voice their opinion.

two people from jersey aren't able to make it because gg is on fri instead of sat =\

If you're coming this tourney aint free no more:v:

Any word on places to stay? I noticed the U-Con @ Uconn site has some special rate going with the hotel, but it doesn't say how much exactly.

HnK? I'm more down now. If it's on Sunday, you receive a frown, for then I will be out of town. Midigating the mindgame's room, is it okay or still too soon? If not, it won't spell my doom, for other connections I will have to pull from the loom.
