Teppelin Posted January 23, 2010 Author Posted January 23, 2010 Hey guys, So I know last year's Warzone was particularly bad for BlazBlue players and I felt really terrible about it. I was very ready to walk away in shame from the BB community, but the constructive criticism I took from this community made me want to come back and make sure I did you guys justice. I took down a lot of notes from the previous thread and we've come up with a lot of stuff that will hopefully show you that we do care and want to make things right. They include: 1. BlazBlue will be on PS3. I'm going out next month to puchase PS3s specifically for the BlazBlue tournament. We won't have to deal with oddities on our streaming TV with Nu's buzzsaw thing coming in from off screen and include more of the BB crowd. 2. We're closing at the door registration to Friday night, and will have brackets posted the morning before the tournament begins. 3. BlazBlue is scheduled to be the first game played, so no delays for you guys. 4. We're pushing SF4 off to be the last game so that all the other games get the proper attention they deserve. 5. The BlazBlue stations will remain BlazBlue for the duration of the tournament. No more switching out the machines to other games. This is where I am starting and should you guys have any other issues you would like addressed or concerns, please let me know! Kai and I have put a lot of thought into making sure Warzone II goes as smoothly as possible, and to make sure that we are on the look out for all the players.
render Posted January 23, 2010 Posted January 23, 2010 Hi Teppelin/John, I'm really glad to see that the criticism from your last effort didn't get you down, and you're giving it another shot. Good shit. Reading the details above, it looks like things are going to be done right, and it could turn out to be a really sick tourney. I really like the free drink for a 5-win streak. That's fucking GENIUS. I should let you know (as someone inevitably would at some point) that there is a new version of BlazBlue out in arcades only (called "BlazBlue: Continuum Shift" (or just "CS"), released in November 2009) that has already made it's way to a few areas of the US, including SoCal. There's already a pretty strong scene forming around it, but the vast majority of the US only has access to the previous version. Inevitably, there will be some contention over which version should be used at Warzone. I'm just one guy, but I think it would be pretty fucking hype if you were able to somehow have the new version at Warzone II. Unfortunately, there hasn't been any announcement of a console release for the new version, and considering that the US publisher didn't announce anything about the last version ("Calamity Trigger", or just "CT") until March for a late June release, it seems pretty unlikely that Continuum Shift will hit consoles in the US before the date of Warzone II. To be honest, I think a BB tourney thrown for the previous version would be only marginally successful, considering its character balance issues. It's a sticky situation, since the logistics of throwing a Continuum Shift tourney could be a nightmare. The only way would be to procure the arcade version for the tourney, and doing so could prove difficult. And even if you DID - let's be generous and say you managed to get two setups going - that would significantly influence the time it takes to run the tourney. That said, I still think it could be done. Pretty sure the community is willing to step up and help you make things go smoothly (though having it dumped on us like it was at ActiveGamers' "Triple Threat" is certainly not the best way to do things. Either way, I would leave the floor open about it for a little bit before you run out and buy a bunch of PS3s for BlazBlue. I mean, if you will need them for something anyway, then great. Just thought I'd give you a heads up.
Spirit Juice Posted January 23, 2010 Posted January 23, 2010 Thanks to Render for typing out things I wanted to say but were too lazy to.
TaoFTW Posted January 23, 2010 Posted January 23, 2010 Whether, or not, it's BBCT or BBCS, I - from the depths of my heart - am glad to see you guys make the effort to keep the scene up for us.
Kenny tuty Posted January 23, 2010 Posted January 23, 2010 as a CS player, I don't think I would enter the tourney. But I think running the event with CT isn't bad idea at all. This "blazblue" community originally started with Guilty Gear, and it has been around for kinda long time. However, blazblue brought bunch of new players into this fighting game community.(not as much as SF4, I know -.-) but yeah, because blazblue has a lot of common stuff with guilty gear, the player skill of the new ones and the original community people are pretty far. But if you guys have CT tourney right now, majority of the community from Guilty Gear scene won't enter. or even we do, we are away from the game anyways. It's pretty tough adjusting to old versions, coz it's kind pointless to us. Therefore, I believe the main players in the tourney will be the "console" players. Since Blazblue calamity trigger had pretty good sales, I personally think go with CT is good idea. Maybe you guys need to advertise that "everybody has chance" stuff tho. Running CS tourney can only be the ads for BB itself. I don't think most of people want to pay $30 for the game they never really played. But, doing side tourney with CS sounds pretty fun... to the old community people. lol I believe showing how CS works could transform some of SF4 players into a BB player. Also, even I think it's good idea to run the tourney with CT, honestly the level of tourney itself wouldn't be interesting to watch. (because of the lack of top players with intense practicing.) And most of BBCT players are interested in watching CS as well, I think. so yeah, thinking about collecting like 10? good CS players and run side tourney for 40 minutes could be fun. I think it's worth to consider about. Anyway, thanks a lot for the effort you guys make! I hope US fighting game scene will get bigger and bigger~
Mike Z Posted January 23, 2010 Posted January 23, 2010 I'm with Ken and render - console players would enter CT, veterans would enter CS, but there is unlikely to be any overlap (although Nu and Rachel players would enter CT regardless, but that would keep other people from doing so. :^) CT is incredibly unbalanced compared to CS. I volunteer my CS setup, if it is needed...
severin Posted January 23, 2010 Posted January 23, 2010 (although Nu and Rachel players would enter CT regardless, but that would keep other people from doing so. :^) The truth hurts ever so.
Teppelin Posted January 23, 2010 Author Posted January 23, 2010 Warzone being a So Cal tourney, I think it would make the best sense to get Continuum Shift. I will move forward in seeing if I can get the game. Thanks guys~
Tronzilla666 Posted January 23, 2010 Posted January 23, 2010 You should add Tatsunoko vs Capcom please. The new one is coming out. Just a suggestion if you have room to add another game but looking forward to this event. Probably just going for Marvel and possibly CT.
Spirit Juice Posted January 23, 2010 Posted January 23, 2010 Lambda is fine, so I'm not sure why Nu players would not enter a CS tournament. :o
Gorehound Posted January 23, 2010 Posted January 23, 2010 Lambda is fine, so I'm not sure why Nu players would not enter a CS tournament. :o Yeah, Lambda is a good character, at least she wasn't horrendously nerfed like you know who! It would be great if CS would be available for the tourney instead, after constantly playing CS in the arcade I don't see myself going back to CT.
Tronzilla666 Posted January 23, 2010 Posted January 23, 2010 Spirit you do make a good point and sorry for threatening you man. I just was irritated. Personally I like Lambda better than Nu because her new moves are awesome.
Spirit Juice Posted January 24, 2010 Posted January 24, 2010 It's okay, Tron. We'll hang out sometime in the future... but we have to make sure there are ladies present!
Tronzilla666 Posted January 24, 2010 Posted January 24, 2010 Yea I will make sure the ladies rock out. Some fiiiiiiine ladies and drinking woohoo.
render Posted January 26, 2010 Posted January 26, 2010 Warzone being a So Cal tourney, I think it would make the best sense to get Continuum Shift. I will move forward in seeing if I can get the game. Thanks guys~ GOOD SHIT. Seriously can't wait for this tourney now. Don't know how aware you are of Aksys Games (www.aksysgames.com they are the publisher for BlazBlue in the US), but you may want to consider contacting them to see if they are interested in participating in Warzone in some capacity. This tourney is gonna be fuckin HYPE. EDIT: Also, ladiiiiies
choysauce Posted January 26, 2010 Posted January 26, 2010 Man I was so hype for this tourney until I heard it was during Easter weekend =(. Gotta pick Jesus over Ragna. But man it'd be awesome to see the community step up that much and get CS in there. that'd be amazing
Tronzilla666 Posted January 26, 2010 Posted January 26, 2010 Oh too bad Jesus is not real and never was. Plus you are going to miss me bringing the ladies!
render Posted January 26, 2010 Posted January 26, 2010 Oh too bad Jesus is not real and never was. Plus you are going to miss me bringing the ladies! Jesus wants you to go to Warzone anyway.

I certainly hope they provide us the goods Man I was so hype for this tourney until I heard it was during Easter weekend =(. Gotta pick Jesus over Ragna. But man it'd be awesome to see the community step up that much and get CS in there. that'd be amazing Saturday is the day of main tournament play, and Sunday would be top 8. Top 8 for BlazBlue won't start till 3pm, so you may still be able to make your Easter service and be back in time if you're local.
