Hellfromabove Posted January 29, 2010 Author Posted January 29, 2010 See I really wish I had a way to go. :< I want to go really bad again to play and have fun! SOMEONE TAKE ME. I WANNA TAKE YOU FOR A RIDE DUNA DUNA DUN DUN I WANNA TAKE YOU FOR A RIDE!!! -Tha Hindu
Kamui Moon Posted January 29, 2010 Posted January 29, 2010 It's an insult to the real gear players that gear isn't on the poll, but even the real gear players realize that putting it on there was a waste of time, because this country is full of lazy ass loudmouths who would rather dickwave on the internet than actually travel and play the game. i agree completely. i am fully aware that voting for gg would've simply been for self-satisfaction, but it's still one hell of an insult to not even include it. i will be at evo regardless. drinking my ass off and playing nothing but gear.
tolore Posted January 29, 2010 Posted January 29, 2010 my suggestion is start looking at flight and hotel prices, also look for BUNDLED flight and hotel prices. I have no idea what your funds are but you can find some amazingly good deals. Another thing to remember, cabs are cheap. It's like 10 bucks to get from any hotel on the strip to any other hotel on the strip, split that between 2 or 3 people and it's super cheap. I ended up paying 700 bucks for round trip tickets and a full week(I stayed the tuesday before evo till the tuesday after it) at a nice hotel. If you look around and are willing to stay at cheaper hotels you can find some REAL nice package deals. If that's not an option you can try carpooling, but depending on where you live and how many people you get in the car you can try carpooling, but I don't really think you save all that much. edit: Also I understand not having gear as a main game, but not even on the community vote list, I do consider that a bit of an insult.
Spirit Juice Posted January 29, 2010 Posted January 29, 2010 Didn't a whole bunch of people not come 2 years ago and then make a big stink about the results claiming they didn't matter because they didn't go? that's the big thing about it being a side tourney is some people decide not to come, even though it's more accessible. I strongly urge everyone who was planning to go, to still go. The only way I'm not is if some sort of job offer gets in the way(graduating senior, and I will TELL them I want to go to evo so I want that time off), or if it becomes financially unfeasible. Yes, Evo 2k8 was the year a lot of players didn't go to Evo because it wasn't an official tournament. BIG mistake on their part since if everyone that was serious about GG went, we would've had bigger numbers than FR did that year. GGAC was as big as it ever was that year, and the community decided to shoot itself in the foot by not going. What I found hilarious about the whole thing was that it was a side tournament, but why wouldn't people come? Was it just because it was labeled as a side tournament? What, does the game have to be labeled as a main tournament in order to be worthy of attending the event? It couldn't have been the prize pot since Evo was running a split pot just like FR was. So what does that leave? The game has to be on a projector screen or something to be worthy of attending? Give me a break. Just thinking about it made me mad. Myself, and others, put a lot of effort and energy into trying to make GGAC a huge side tournament at Evo. We were confident given FR's numbers that we'd get more than 128 people in the tournament. The result? A disappointing, bitter-sweet success. It was a success in the fact that GG returned to Evo in 2k9, but I believe we got around 80 people that entered the tournament (mostly WC). If the community that was serious about the game like they claim to be actually came, we would have easily smashed FR's numbers. Unfortunately, the community shot itself in the foot again. Now we all stand around wondering why the game is dying, why it isn't even on the voting list for Evo this year but a completely dead game like CvS2 is. I'll tell you why. The community sucks. It always has and always will. We're not the SF community. We're not the MvC2 community. We don't have the drive to support ourselves or the community and it's only getting worse. After Evo 2k8, we got GGAC at Evo 2k9 again. It was said it was going to be the last GG at Evo and what happened? The community failed to deliver... AGAIN. The numbers were underwhelming again (a lot of communities didn't show up... AGAIN), and the finals were very unhype. Some people in the community have said how much they care about the game, but the community itself has not shown that they care about the game. At this point, it shouldn't be a surprise to anyone that GG isn't even being considered for Evo this year.
tolore Posted January 29, 2010 Posted January 29, 2010 yeah that's about how I remembered it, though 2 years ago evo was the second tournament I had ever been too and definitely the biggest so it was all super hype for me anyways, so those disappointments didn't stick in my head too much. It's really sad we have such a large community and we have as of yet really failed at getting our stuff together.
TaoFTW Posted January 29, 2010 Posted January 29, 2010 Snip. Pretty much all that I wanted to say was said in this essay; so let's just enjoy the Vegas attraction.
TGS Posted January 29, 2010 Posted January 29, 2010 Or we could all vote for Melty while the rest of the Capcom players fight over 3S/CvS2/MvC2...
A.J. Posted January 29, 2010 Posted January 29, 2010 Yes. Melty. Vote. Go. Do it. (Finally...my chance to moneymatch the mods and lose horribly. -Mr. Burns hand-rub-)
Mr. Mamation Posted January 29, 2010 Posted January 29, 2010 Yes, Evo 2k8 was the year a lot of players didn't go to Evo because it wasn't an official tournament. Some changes that should be made... 1) Get rid of BB 2) Get rid of SF4 3) Add CvS2 4) Add HnK Everything else doesn't matter. You know, I don't think anyone cares about TvC either, get rid of that shit and add your melty.
Kamui Moon Posted January 29, 2010 Posted January 29, 2010 i don't agree with most of that wall of text, but what is definitely true is that we need to show that we still give a fuck about this game. i cried bullshit after the unbelievably subpar showing at season's beatings. and even now, it's still unclear how big final round will be. just what the hell really happened? we were killing off our own scene even before complete shit like IV and BB came along. i go to every event i possibly can. period. even if gg isn't even listed as an event, i'll still go and try to play. i do anything and everything i can for this community. and there is no doubt that i'll be at evo this year. i planned to be at evo last year, and even the year before that, but scrounging up the money for such a trip just isn't always feasible. now without tuition to pay, i can just say fuck it all. i'll spend it all on gg.
Mr. Mamation Posted January 29, 2010 Posted January 29, 2010 I don't even want to hear about seasons beatings again. I think that was the last gg tournament I ever entered. Aside from the 2$ one the other month. That shit was a lot more fun. I like free tourneys
tolore Posted January 29, 2010 Posted January 29, 2010 I think part of the problem is that some people see final round as the main gg event, and some people see evo. I personally go to evo for my BIG GG tournament of the year, then frosty fausting and anything within reasonable driving distance. I don't go to evo because it's evo or because it's close to the west coast. I go to evo because it's the big GG event. If we come out as a community and say 'hey screw evo, final round is the big even' I'll try to go to that(although it's at a pretty inconvenient time). As soon as I'm no longer a jobless college student I'll probably go to both.
qwerty Posted January 29, 2010 Posted January 29, 2010 so i was wondering, would a regional 5v5 be feasible? 8 teams (1 wildcard) waseda style with 5 people would take forever but nothing like free publicity, right?
Hellmonkey Posted January 29, 2010 Posted January 29, 2010 If non west coast actually get off their asses and come like in 07 again haha The economy hit the scene pretty badly in terms of traveling I think, since both the trip and vegas are bound to cost a bit. The bigger issue is the lack of players willing to travel in the first place, not too many hungry players. I don't really see it as a bad thing that the GG scene didn't turn into something like marvel, having it as a side event for players of any level to enter with a low entry fee is pretty fitting imo. GGAC casuals at evo are always fun too. I'm totally down with the idea of a special event for this evo, if we can get confirmed heads for something.
Hurricane Rev Posted January 29, 2010 Posted January 29, 2010 The EVO games line up is really BAD!!!! I love Guilty Gear but I'm not surprised that guilty gear is not on there. Why??? Not because it's old. But Because some players have been distracted by Blazblue. If players are too lazy to travel to tournaments, then they are letting their own scene down. However, I don't think its too late to save the gg scene. If you guys do regular Guilty gear tournaments every week/month or maybe do a Major Guilty gear tournament (Its best not to rely on Evo for a big GG tourney), then i'm sure that the gg scene will come back again. Also, Record the tournaments and make a film about it :P. Something like this for example. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2V3xk7UUvgw&feature=player_embedded You guys should try and do a gg teams tourney or something at EVO.
DoomieJ Posted January 29, 2010 Posted January 29, 2010 Well, all this GG talk makes me want to play. I would go to evo, but its a big commitment and to be honest, i dont have a very good job or personal life right now, or i would love to go. But this year could be a bit better, money is looking up, so hopefully i can make it. And i wasnt big enough into GG to make it in 07 or earlier, or i would have. But dont blame EC, we poverty dogs.
tolore Posted January 29, 2010 Posted January 29, 2010 we ALWAYS do teams and singles at evo, regardless of what the offical game status is.
Hellfromabove Posted February 8, 2010 Author Posted February 8, 2010 cool so how about that regional 5v5 Definetly seems like a good idea. Wouldn't want to start gathering people just yet because plans do sometimes change for people last minute. I'll get together with some people and talk over what should and shouldn't be done. -Tha Hindu
TGS Posted February 8, 2010 Posted February 8, 2010 Lol @ talk of a regional 5v5 when that shit never got off the ground the last 5 years GG was at Evo...
render Posted February 8, 2010 Posted February 8, 2010 haha, yeah, that's not gonna happen. Let's just stick with the usual singles + 3v3. Instead of trying to do a regional 5v5, how about some areas put money on the line and say they can beat other regions for some hype money matches? e.g. SoCal 5-man team will take on any other region in a $250 money match.
Spirit Juice Posted February 8, 2010 Posted February 8, 2010 The only way this is going to work out is if each regional community claims itself as one and nominates players to be part of the team. For example, last year Texas players wanted to be their own region and didn't want to be lumped in with midwest, and no one could really agree on what counted as a region. To fix this, I suggest that each community large enough to get 5 players talk amongst themselves about assembling a team and entering (e.g. Texas could even have a Houston and Austin region if they'd like).
Hellmonkey Posted February 9, 2010 Posted February 9, 2010 or we could just do it like the gg 5v5 happened in 07 where people just go around and gather up 5 people willing to throw down 50 bucks, not official or anything.
Hellfromabove Posted February 9, 2010 Author Posted February 9, 2010 As I said, something that needs to be talked about and resolved. I know we were trying to do one for CT last year and it never went through due to time constraints, people doing their own shit, some people not being there. Seems that these are the main causes every year. -Tha Hindu
