Jun Hyung Joon Posted March 27, 2011 Posted March 27, 2011 What is plinking and pianoing? What are the advantages of doing these techniques? Also, are there any other techniques that will improve my play?

Also, are there any other techniques that will improve my play? *SF4 specific: The game mechanics of SF4 allow a technique we call "Plinking" to be employed which can make links significantly easier to execute. link RE: Pianoing http://shoryuken.com/f160/key-drumming-pianoing-137409/ I've heard of an example of pianoing in GG (S/HS dp for Sol), but I don't hear much about it outside of SF play.
lime93 Posted April 3, 2011 Posted April 3, 2011 Well the D-Pad killed my thumb while I was playing Dragon Quest IX, I doubt it will go well with a fighting games
Kurushii Posted April 3, 2011 Posted April 3, 2011 If you are looking at 3DS for BBCS2p I would recommend just getting a cheap, used PSP 2000 off ebay. You can easily change the firmware and install plugins to allow video output and optional controller input (play with a controller/stick/keyboard). Also the 3DS is region locked so if you are picking up a NA or EU 3DS you won't be able to play the import JP copy. So you would have to wait for the NA/EU release to come.
Mute Posted April 15, 2011 Posted April 15, 2011 Alright so I just bought my stick two days ago, and I have two questions.. I see everyone else who uses sticks is a shitload faster, when I switched to the stick I feel slower.. Do I just need to keep practicing and get used to it? Also, I'm having a tough time with back dashes, another thing I just gotta practice and get used to? And are both of those common for beginner stick users? Thanks in advance.
Kurushii Posted April 15, 2011 Posted April 15, 2011 Yea that's common. Work on different grips to see what feels best. Practice, practice, practice. It takes time to get it feeling right. It's like learning a musical instrument. It'll all feel foreign to you at first. Turn on input display during training and watch your inputs to see what you are inputing wrong on directions.

Alright thanks. There was a video somewhere about different grip styles I saw a long time ago, guess I'll have to go find that and try out different grips.
Mute Posted April 15, 2011 Posted April 15, 2011 Oh wow it's in the OP of THIS thread. lol.. I feel dumb now.
Bren Posted May 18, 2011 Posted May 18, 2011 Hello, I'm having a bit of trouble with 236236 inputs on both sides. I bought my stick around Christmas time and it feels pretty solid except for that one input. I use a wineglass like position with the stick between my ring and pinky fingers. Any advice?
MAdBater Posted May 18, 2011 Posted May 18, 2011 Make sure you finish both quarter circles in the 236 236 input because if you rush the input it you are might be doing 23 23 or 236 23. Also let the stick go back to neutral or 5 before you do the second quarter circle. so it should be like doing 236 5 236. The position you hold the arcade stick does not change much you just have to get use to all the command with that position.
Bren Posted May 18, 2011 Posted May 18, 2011 Yeah it's mostly for jayokus and quick lambda needle storms after 5DD or 4DD so I may be rushing it because I want to practice being fast with it. Thank you for the advice! :D
Jun Hyung Joon Posted May 20, 2011 Posted May 20, 2011 I heard some games have input short cuts for DPs and such. Does BB have any input shortcuts? If so, what are they and how do you do them?
Delrian Posted May 20, 2011 Posted May 20, 2011 Nope, only a 5 frame buffer for button presses (maybe directions too, not sure). Basically if you press a button 5 frames earlier than a link, you'll get the link anyways.

Hope you bought a cheap stick. You'll probably break your first stick figuring out how to use it correctly. Yea, dashing is a pain on stick. You'll get it down but it won't be overnight. I do it as 236541236+X it's a fluid motion that way.
Manta Posted May 20, 2011 Posted May 20, 2011 Hey I hate that input. Probably the stupidest input in all of fighting games. Funny, when I went from thumbstick to arcade stick 236236 motions became much easier but somehow 623 inputs became harder. I have to make a concious effort to really push the stick into the 3 position to do Dp motions

When I actually bought my own arcade stick (which had an octagonal-gate joystick), I first had a bit of difficulty doing the "3" (which sucked since I main noel). Nowadays, I'm pretty much capable of moving the joystick into the "3" position.

Tried the Z motion(lol saw it from mbac vs screen) worked wonders for me, try giving that a shot.
Manta Posted May 20, 2011 Posted May 20, 2011 Oh I've got it nailed now. Just had to teach myself not be be lazy when pushing it into the corner (Because 360 motions tend not to care). I do something akin to a 6523 motion. Getting a stick was also about the time when I went to doing DP motions properly and not be going 6236236236232636236223123112363623 C
