huey253 Posted April 29, 2010 Posted April 29, 2010 a major reasons arakune isn't great is because some characters can keep him out of curse pretty easy, and also that he is crap F tier outside of curse mode
Shine Posted April 29, 2010 Posted April 29, 2010 Arakune is a lot better than this list puts him, for the record.. If you don't believe me watch more souji. Using another person to prove that a character is better than he is is pretty dumb. Using a tired example, Kuroda, a 3s player who mains Q. He usually wins most of his matches. Does that mean Q is better than the tier lists suggest? No, it doesn't. Q is low tier and will always be low tier as he is lacking way too many options that other characters have. Kuroda is just that good. Arakune without curse is garbage and relies too much on try to land curse. Characters who can keep pressure on Ara or could zone him is a huge problem. Souji just makes the character work for him even though he's really not that great.
ZONG_one Posted April 29, 2010 Posted April 29, 2010 Arakune is a lot better than this list puts him, for the record.. If you don't believe me watch more souji. DUN DUNNA NAHHHHH! DUN DUNNA NAHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!! I've been waiting like 4 months to hear those words come out of your mouth. :psyduck::psyduck: You've finally learned, young GURASS HOPPAHH. :china:
Dacidbro Posted April 29, 2010 Posted April 29, 2010 them words hey yo come back after you money match someone when you say you will and I'll believe ya Seriously though. I said the same shit. Then I realized I was wrong. He is no lower than mid, for sure.
feri Posted April 29, 2010 Posted April 29, 2010 Noel cant KD a super jumping arakune without meter. There is no real punish to an arakune jumping that high anyways (air throw bluebeats at DJ height). Its actually very amusing. Oh and I swear Arakune gets a free cloud if noel so much as 'does an air combo'.. that is why your seeing jap noels doing j.a j.a j.a > stop (to save the DJ option). Carl has the same air combo problem but the mobility thing hurts him more. Has a meterless air to air KD (j.b CH)
JinSaotome Posted April 29, 2010 Posted April 29, 2010 Since a lot of people are saying that chart is really wrong, shouldn't we try to make a more correct version? :3 (definitely take this with a grain of salt, because I have maybe like an hour or so of CS experience. ) I haven't had much experience but how is Haz vs Lambda in Hazama's favor? I could not get in for the life of me in that matchup, and Hazama doesn't have the tools to keep Lambda locked in place when he DOES get in. (Though I was mashmashmashing a bit and eating lots of gravity wells as a result and getting slammed back to the opposite side of the screen. ) Bang vs Lambda definitely feels like 6-4 or maybe even 6.5-3.5. Getting in with him is almost free in this game, and Lambda can't do shit about it. The only brightside is Bang's reversals without meter are still god awful, so Lambda can rush that shit down if she gets a combo in. Bang vs Ragna feels pretty even. Both of them have such strong pressure and oki game, that both of them can keep each other pinned down really easy. I'd give a slight edge to Ragna cause he's got more range on pokes as well as better AA, and a meterless DP Hazama vs Ragna feels like maybe 5.5-4.5 Ragna? Ragna doesn't seem to like challenging chains (reasonably, since once Hazama gets his meter JAYOKU HOUTENJIN), but Ragna has very little to fear once he's in short of JAYOKU and maybe 2A mash. Also, 5D~C/D being stuffed out by 6A makes me so very sad ;_;
-Ladon- Posted April 29, 2010 Posted April 29, 2010 snip nobody ever fully agrees with tier lists/matchup charts, there's always some theory going on that can make every matchup look different in other people's eyes. this is why I usually just take either american or japanese top player's opinions on it and accept it, then again i've never really cared about tiers in general
Dacidbro Posted April 29, 2010 Posted April 29, 2010 Well hey, Arakune is doing unreasonably well in Japan Lets put him higher
Irrsinn Posted April 29, 2010 Posted April 29, 2010 I've seen less and less Arakunes lately, maybe thats why he's doing good, because there's only Souji, Fumo and Hima to see.
smooshman Posted April 29, 2010 Posted April 29, 2010 I've seen less and less Arakunes lately, maybe thats why he's doing good, because there's only Souji, Fumo and Hima to see. same with Jin...... we got.... Dennou (unless he did switch to Bang...), Ren, Konan.... and uhhhhh......
Skye Posted April 30, 2010 Posted April 30, 2010 I've seen less and less Arakunes lately, maybe thats why he's doing good, because there's only Souji, Fumo and Hima to see. This is worth consideration. Considering how hard CS kune is to play, it makes sense that people won't flock to him with open arms. Even more so since there are "far easier to play" characters who are top tier.
Spirit Juice Posted April 30, 2010 Posted April 30, 2010 Since a lot of people are saying that chart is really wrong, shouldn't we try to make a more correct version? :3 The list is pretty much a copy of the JP list that came out in January. The game hasn't evolved much since then, so it's safe to say that it's probably accurate. There are a lot of players that make their characters look a lot stronger than they are, but they are just good players. If you want to use GG players as examples, you could look at Dogura and N-O. Both players play mid-tier characters (Robo-Ky and Venom), but they are probably two of the top five players in Japan. Let's also not forget Ruu, who plays Bridget (a C tier character or one of the bottom three characters), but he does exceptionally well against everyone in Japan. He is also probably considered one of the top five players.
DC Posted April 30, 2010 Posted April 30, 2010 Indeed, unfortunately an amazing player does not make the character amazing.
smooshman Posted April 30, 2010 Posted April 30, 2010 Indeed, unfortunately an amazing player does not make the character amazing. sadly the inverse can be true..... >_>

I just saw a lot of posters saying that the chart was all wrong, so I thought I'd bring it up. :3 And yeah, a lot of those players that represent their characters really well, despite the character shortcomings. (N-O and Lime-Key were my heroes when I played GG more actively. Too bad I won't see them in BB. ;_
Dacidbro Posted April 30, 2010 Posted April 30, 2010 Yes, well most of those characters didn't have fever, or 100% fever combos off 7 frame aerials/antiairs/sweeps/sometimes jabs, or the ability to do a vast majority of his opponent's health with really quick crossup feints and what not. I think there is more to the argument than "souji is really good", I heard you guys when you said it the first time, but I disagree. I understand Arakune's failures, pretty shitty defense and normals and etc.
feri Posted April 30, 2010 Posted April 30, 2010 Techy characters just have more room to grow. They generally they start out lower then rise slightly when new discoveries are made. Tiers probably have changed but not by much, if at all. Oh and I dont remember there being 'many' japanese arakune CT players. IIRC heartnana mentioned him being unpopular somewhere.
Dacidbro Posted April 30, 2010 Posted April 30, 2010 Multiple 100% curse combos have been discovered since this list was made.. I think that coupled with a 3 frame jump and a backdash that can't be option select punished(Meaning his defense isn't nearly as hopeless as many believe) are good reason for him to be better than low tier

ZONG_one Posted April 30, 2010 Posted April 30, 2010 I wouldn't be surprised if Ara took SBO this year. (Again.) I would actually probably put some money on it.
Dacidbro Posted May 1, 2010 Posted May 1, 2010 This list puts him 25 points down from what I would see as mid tier
smooshman Posted May 1, 2010 Posted May 1, 2010 the chart puts arakune at high b tier, so he's high mid tier.... Jin (and Tsubaki) are at mid B tier and are mid-mid tier, and Noel is low mid tier, Tager is B-/C tier and Rachael is... yeah....
A.X.I.S. Posted May 1, 2010 Posted May 1, 2010 tager is low B tier you twerp. the only C tier is rachel. look at the colors they determine who's high and who's low. smooshman I will pimp slap you.
