Yuushiro Posted May 15, 2010 Posted May 15, 2010 So, I am not 100% clear on this... so if I get a guard bonus, do I have to worry about blocking high or low.... or would it just block it for me if I just press the opposite direction and also everything will get instant blocked instead of normal. does this also apply for any "projectile" types of mixup or just normals?
Dacidbro Posted May 15, 2010 Posted May 15, 2010 I am fairly certain it just makes everything auto-IB. Mixup should still apply. But.. overall, people know very little about guard bonus, because most often if you get guard bonus, you block well enough to live in Japan. I most often see it happen when people block Carl pressure, or when Bang blockstrings into FRKZ and pokes on the other side of superflash.

smooshman Posted May 15, 2010 Posted May 15, 2010 guard bonus is simply when you're in blockstun for 6 seconds, you start IB'ing everything that you block; it doesn't block for you, it essentially exists for when that one odd situation occurs (read: glitch) where you are forced to block for a long time. but if you aren't in blockstun for 6 seconds it doesn't activate.

They realized they fucked up and said "Hey, lets fix it in the next game." Even if someone found a way for a character to pressure you across the screen again, Guard Bonus would make it easy to get out or even punish them, provided you know how to block.

Frog/pumpkin corner trap didn't keep you in 100% block stun, so the decision to implement guard bonus into the game was pretty weird...

smooshman Posted May 16, 2010 Posted May 16, 2010 presumably, since it activares during the FRKZ animation, it continues during DD animation/super flash, so against Bang it might happen more often, maybe if Tager does MTW, or another long DD.
smooshman Posted May 16, 2010 Posted May 16, 2010 so it's pretty much a useless feature then? yes, it essentially there in the event of some wierd glitch where the enemy could keep attacking (FRKZ comes to mind, because of it's properties), so it won't play a major part in anyones strategy. it's a safety net, the effect it gives in and of it's self is evidence that it isn't useless(useless is if it swapped your color palette), but it isn't likely to occur.
