Recently, I purchased a HRAP3SA for my PS3 along with Accent Core Plus. The problem is, this is my very first Guilty Gear game and I have no idea how to set the buttons up.

How should I set it? The eight buttons are set up like this on the stick:

Square Triangle R1 L1

X Circle R2 L2

What would be the setup that's used for arcade machines? Would Square be P? Would Triangle be K? I'm really lost. I'm sorry that I'm a total noob at this, so any help would be greatly appreciated. :psyduck:

Arcade Set-Up is.

K, MS, HS

P, X, D

O, O, O

O, O, O

note; X = Not Used

Ah, thanks for the quick reply. So on the HRAP3SA, L1 and L2 won't be used if I were to copy the arcade set-up, right?

Hey Zevali Thats right L1 and L2 won't be used along with Circle on the 2nd row. Just some info I've read from before. I'm not sure if this is true or not but I heard some Joysticks for the PS3 won't be compatible with PS2 games. Also there is lag when playing PS2 games on the PS3 so best use a PS2 instead for time sensative games. I'm not sure about the controller compatibility but I am sure of the lag for Backwords compatibility. Hope that info helps. :)

Hey Zevali

Hi Schelcoof. :keke:

Just some info I've read from before. I'm not sure if this is true or not but I heard some Joysticks for the PS3 won't be compatible with PS2 games.

Also there is lag when playing PS2 games on the PS3 so best use a PS2 instead for time sensative games.

I played Accent Core Plus last Friday night when I first got it with a friend and the stick works. Not sure about the lag though, haven't really paid attention since it was a test drive... I'll have to check for sure. If then, I'm screwed because I let my friend borrow my PS2 since his PS3 doesn't have backwards compatibility. :(

I'm not sure about the controller compatibility but I am sure of the lag for Backwords compatibility.

Hope that info helps. :)

You are sure about it then? Hm... I'll try again tomorrow and see how it works out. If the delay isn't too bad, I guess I'll deal with it.

Thanks for the help, I appreciate it. :)

If the controller works then I don't think you should have a problem with it then.

But yes it is true that the PS3 when playing PS2 games has a delay of about 2-3frames. I'm unsure exactly how long the delay is but I am sure there is a delay. This may or may not apply to both versions of the PS3. The one that emulates PS2 hardware or the PS3 system that has built in emotion engine.

It's very difficult to notice lag, there is actually a whole FAQ somewhere regarding input-lag on SRK.

Here's one regarding PS3 input lag: http://www.shoryuken.com/showthread.php?t=173220

Also another on HDTV FAQ: http://www.shoryuken.com/showthread.php?t=174085

I hope that helps. I don't know much about input-delay but I hope those two links there help.

Cheers

There's a PS3 that emulates PS2 games? Is it like a download thing or do i have to do some moding?

Edit: Also what are recommendations for a stick that works both on PS2, PS3 and PC? I saw a cheap one, but as I said, I think it was cheap quality and I couldn't find a brand name anywhere so I can't really say what stick it was. I'd also like to get a stick that works with Windows rather than having to install some shady drivers that require me to go through the BIOS and disable certain parts of the system in order to get it to work.

Oh... well I got my hopes up for nothing lol. I was hoping that there was something I could do to play PS2 DVD's on my PS3.

Edit: I was looking at mayflash ps2/ps3/pc usb fight stick (http://www.mayflash.com/pc/pc042/pc042.htm) since I want a stick that works with PS2 PS3 and PC. However I hear the quality isn't that good. To remedy this I was thinking about getting one, then later on mod-ing it with a bat stick and some seimitsu buttons. I've heard that it's really easy to mod. The question is if this is a good idea or not.

Haven't read the thread, but have you considered the Toodles Cthulhu PC/PS3 Board? the muti-console version would allow you to use your stick for the ps2/ps3/pc. Don't know how the modding process would work out.

You could get a PS3/PS2 converter.

Would that work? I looked at earlier posts and I was under the impression that converters experienced lag or just didn't turn out well in the end. Maybe I misunderstood?

Ok thank you I'll look into using that.

I can't stand square gates personally, can't play without an octo gate :v: It's all up to you though, preference/comfort with it is important. If you haven't used anything other than square gate, you're probably just getting used to using a new stick.

So, I've never really played on a stick before (like really, I've never even played a fighting game at an arcade in my life) but I've been told they're better to use than pad and since getting better at GG is one of the few things I'm actually interested in doing in life, I figure I might as well get one.

I was browsing ebay and found this. The shipping would amount my total to about $91.50, but... Does anyone know if this stick is worth the money? (What kind of parts was it made with, etc?)

That's what I have and it's pretty decent. I don't know what the parts are though, but it feels sturdy enough. I've been using it casually for a few months and no problems with it. It felt like a pos at first, but that was b/c I wasn't used to a stick at all.

sorry if this is answered somewhere else in here (dont have the time to read all the pages :P)

but i was thinking of getting a stick

http://www.amazon.com/Real-Arcade-Pro-3-SA-Playstation-3/dp/B002FL0T8U/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top

that one to be exact. and i noticed that the button layout has square, triangle, circle and X arranged in a diamond instead of in a line. this would be my first stick so im kinda baffled. does that matter? could i just set the button config to what i want it as in game? (thinking BB atm) like how an arcade would have them set? top 3 buttons going from left to right being A B and C and the first button on the bottom on the left being drive?

any help would be much appreciated and would get me to stop being confused. im thinking im just over thinking things...

For BlazBlue:

[A][C]

[D]

and

[C][D]

[A]

are both standard layouts for the arcade.

For GG, it's:

[K][H]

[P][-][D]

Most players will bind Taunt to the [-] if they have a six button layout.

So i just got A madcatz TE.....and the square gate is OK......but i feel restricted....should i go ahead and get the octo gate.......or wait it out?

I personally use an octo-gate stick, so this is sort of hypocrisy, but you will get faster motions out while riding the gate on a square restrictor. This means that not riding the gate makes more of a difference on an octo gate than a square one. That's one of the main reasons square gates get recommended over octagonal ones, the other being that square is more "standard".

Hi, I've been recently been seriously considering getting a madcatz te stick (ps3). However, I want to eventually would use it to play on the 360 too. Is it possible to mod the stick to play on the 360? If yes, how hard is it to self-mod it? If self-modding is too hard, is it possible to use a converter from ps3 to 360that is lagless?

Posted

It's many times easier to mod a 360 controller to work on PS3 than a PS3 controller to work on 360. This is mainly because 360 controllers have some fancy and as-of-yet uncracked DRM in them, whereas making a custom PCB to work with the PS3 is relatively easy.

Parts you'll need (I don't think I'm missing anything):

360 TE

Chimp PCB

22 AWG Wire (to hook up the 360 PCB in the TE to the Chimp)

Solder

Soldering Iron

Male USB2-A to Male USB2-B cable (to connect stick to system)

There are some pretty detailed threads on the topic in Tech Talk on Shoryuken.

There's already a stick thread there, so this one does seem a little redundant. Merging a bunch of old posts into that new stick thread doesn't seem like such a great idea, perhaps just (some of the) newer ones should be moved, and this thread should be locked with a link to the new one?

I want to mod my Hori Pro 3 SA with a template matching that of vewlix cabinets/TE.

Any good place to make that happen with an artwork that I provide?

I also would like to change the color of the buttons/balltop. The problem is that I noticed some Sanwa buttons are softer than others. For example, my Pro 3 SA buttons are softer/more responsive than the TE stick I tried. I also saw the same problem with two Pro 3 modded sticks. The first stick had Sanwa buttons that were a bit stiff (like the TE) while the second had the same feel as my stick (soft).

Any idea how to insure the new buttons I order would be the same as my Pro 3 SA, or is this the new Sanwa standard?

Thanks.

For modding you're hrap 3 with a vewlix layout your best bet would to get a replacement plexi panel. Specifically http://www.tek-innovations.com/arthobbies/?loc=products&cat=11&subcat=&item=115 you can see the vewlix layout there. Be absolutely sure you read http://www.tek-innovations.com/arthobbies/index.cfm?loc=about⊂=reppanel before you order anything. Art is a cool guy, he'll make sure you get whatever you need for your stick. If the technical side is too much for you, (it can be confusing) just send him an e-mail with what you want.

As for the buttons. The ones that seem to be used most nowadays are sanwa obsf 30mm snap/screw ins and seimitsu clear buttons. Any 30mm button will fit in a hrap, TE, Namco, hori fighting stick, etc. As far as button stiffness, all Sanwa 30mm feel the same. Madcatz has some oddities with their sticks. I've modded a few TE's and while most were sanwa buttons, 2 were not. Sanwa buttons will have a sanwa label on the bottom of them. These 2 sticks (still sealed in box when i got them) had some type of sanwa knock off that were a bit more stiff to the touch, and no label on the bottom. Either madcatz made their own buttons or they accidentally used the buttons from the special edition fight stick they made.

For getting sanwa buttons and different ball/batops I suggest www.lizardlick.com and www.gamingnow.net. Get whatever color of sanwa buttons you want and go from there. You might also try seimitsu buttons. My personal favorite button is white Seimitsu PS-14-GN. Feels almost identical to a sanwa as compared to other seimitsu buttons. If it's 30mm, it'll work. For the exact same buttons as a Hrap3 SA you would want to get white sanwa OBSF-30. Bubbletops look awesome. Meshballs are cool as well but they cost a bit more. Hope that helps some.
