Rin has room, but he lives in the north bay. San Rafael is a good - hearty - 40 minutes from SFO.

Norcal Install, Give me Hype beyond Hype!
If Dustloop had some way to electronically high-five, I would do so for that. Settle for a real one at the event?

Also, what's this about a SoCal team thing? :^D

Says the guy who's not going b/c he can't do public transportation? :3

Oh hey, volunteer positions, if they're still open, hit me up, cause I don't want to spend eight dollars to watch myself lose, but just going to watch is kind of...meh (well, unless your raffle prize is orgasmic, is it? is it? :D)

The raffle prize is so amazing, you'd be a fool to give up the chance at it.

Also, people who don't enter tournaments because they think they'll lose will suck at everything forever and are terrible people.

Seriously, look it up.

You're a convincing man, but wary as I am, I cannot present my smelly green papers without definite knowledge of what I'm getting into (looked it up, can't find it), after all, I don't want to win weed. Or coke. Or hookers. Or hairy burly men.

That said, I don't think I suck at everything, I'm merely presenting a logic assessment and hypothesis of what will happen. It's being logical about what enemies you can take and what you can't. Being tactical, per say, which you cannot deny is essential even in a pastime such as moving hard sticks around while rapidly tapping protruding objects to cause screams and flashes and what not.

either way, I'm volunteering.

I also dont have money to go to this event :( My birthday is next week and I should getting money then but then this event will be over. PROFOUND SADNESS.

Sure! I'm happy to hear a good-hearty soul volunteer for grunt work. They're not hard, but can prove to be a worthwhile experience. Since you are the first volunteer, and seem like someone who's willing to learn, I'll put you at the Front Door Receptionist. The job is simple; (1) greet all the tournament attendees, (2) write down their names/handles, and (3) bring them to the Registration desk.

The only exception to volunteering is that you have to come early. All volunteers are - highly - encouraged to come no later that 11am. And in case you missed out on the volunteer list, here it is:

Volunteer Checklist

Front Door Receptionist (1 position available)

11am - noon

- Volunteer description: Manage, and redirect, all tournament attendees to registration desk while working under the supervision of EUdemonia staff.

Registration Check-in (1 position available)

- Volunteer description: Register tournament attendees while managing payroll transactions under TaoFTW's supervision.

Caller IDentifier (3 positions available)

- Volunteer description: Direct and manage all late registration while contacting all late, or no-show, players; you will work under the supervision of the T.O. hosts.

***

Mike, would it be possible for you to come a little bit early to setup your Skullgirls? By early, could you arrive at 10am? You can get acquainted with Haunts and the rest of our motley crew.

Edit: 5th BBCS spot was taken by Coopa. Scott and Coopa were tied for the most votes, but Mr. Sprt yielded his spot for Coopa. Everybody else only had one vote.

@TaoFTW: Cool and acknowledged. Also, cool, skullgirls is going to be there?

@Copperdabbit: Ah, I read that, it was really encouraging, but well, I guess my competitive drive is slightly different. As long as I have fun I don't mind losing; doesn't mean I like it, though. Which in turn means I'd rather not pay to lose; winning doesn't matter to me as long as I can see someone great playing, but as long as I have to pay to even play at the tournament, I want to derive the most enjoyment out of it. That's all. (I didn't know that was the first tournament you won, I think I watched videos of it, and you were playing like a battle harden veteran. That's pretty amazing)

Besides, chipotle burritos are like...6 dollars. Man. Like, they fill me up.

Are we actually going to see/play skull girls there?

Unless Mike Z decides to not come, we will be able to see Skullgirls! :D

Okay, so the sarcastic humor approach didn't convey it well enough, so I'm going to try to put this into as clear terms as possible:

1. Most people who enter a tournament won't win it. Only one person will. But what's more, not even the majority stand a chance. There are always players who haven't been around as long, and they probably won't win. But if they play, and pay attention, they will probably get better.

2. Most good players are only at their best when playing for stakes. If you don't ever enter tournaments or money matches, you will probably not get as good as the players who have.

3. People who don't enter tournaments because they think they will lose kill tournaments. It's a mentality that's one hundred percent cancerous to the scene and just destroys competition. If you can't enter because you genuinely don't want to play the game, or have other commitments, that's fine. But if you are seriously not going to enter because you know you won't win, then you, personally, are part of the cancer on the fighting game community.

QF100%T. You don't know you won't win, just like even good people don't know they will - that's why they hold the tournament. Otherwise we'd just collect money, distribute it to 3 predetermined people at 70-20-10, then play casuals the rest of the day.

As well, there is a certain influence the tournament atmosphere has, and until you can get past that and not get the shakes just because you're playing someone new "for real", you should enter as many tournaments/put as much importance into each match as you can. Like he said, if you don't enter this tourney because you 'won't win', then you won't win the next one either.

Also - yes, soon as I get plane tickets there will be Skullgirls. Calling people willing to donate X360 sticks for use on it, though...the two I have are functional-but-not-awesome.

define 'donate'. <_<

I think I might've posted it already, but it's a big thread and I have no idea, so I'll happily bring my TE stick for use on 360 for casuals/skullgirls/wtfever.

If it wasn't clear from what I said earlier: This is both a dirty lie you're telling yourself and a reason tournaments die.

You're not being tactical or logical, because you are not risking life or limb. I definitely agree that you should duck fights you can't win if you will be killed or maimed for losing... but these aren't fights, that is the wrong analogy. This is a game, and you are ducking out of it because you're afraid you won't win. This is a ridiculous way to play games, because the nature of games is that you will never get better without losing. If enough people duck out of the game, no one can play the game. And in case you're wondering, I mean tournaments specifically, not merely the fighting games in question. Tournaments are what keep the scene alive, and people who think like that are what keep tournaments dead.

So you can claim whatever intellectual high ground you want to claim, but ultimately the words fall flat in the face of people who know better.

So anyway, 5v5 stuff: Can I be on the NorCal team or what? Sure, I'm from a bit norther-cal than the rest of you, but I figure I can play GG pretty well.

I just don't think fighting games are that important in my life. I'm sorry I'm a thorn in everyone's group D: (excuse) besides, if I happen to the last spot, what will happen to someone else who wants to play more? (excuse).

Hey, don't worry about it, I'll make sure to at least hype things up, watching isn't so bad, too, you know, sometimes you learn more by watching.

edit: oh lol intelligent high ground, stop taking potshots. I don't think I was being negative about it, if you didn't notice I was just trying to pry at what the raffle prize is. I wasn't planning on playing in the first place because watching is more fun and educational for me, but if the prize is great, I'll at least pre-register for it.

Take it a notch down, man...or not, I'm just not bearing that competitive attitude, and I apologize for that. I'm still pretty much a newb to the local scene (just as newb as the local scene is for tournaments, though), and I just think watching right now is good enough (unless there's a great incentive to brave it). That's it.

I'm sorry for making you riled up about it. I'm not saying that I'm afraid of losing, I just don't see things on the same level as you, sorry.

Sounds a lot like "I only lost because I have a life." Everyone else cares about other stuff too. I severely doubt anyone entering would describe Fighting Games as the most important thing in the world to them. It's a game, we're having a tournament. It's cheap. You should enter.

I'm sorry I'm a thorn in everyone's group D:
I'm sure you're a great guy, just a little confused.

(excuse) besides, if I happen to the last spot, what will happen to someone else who wants to play more? (excuse).
I'm not sure I even understand this statement grammatically, let alone semantically.

Not in fighting games.

I just realized that you are still seeded with the top 5 in NorCal from the previous ranbat. So I would say you're on the team lol.
