vedasisme Posted March 24, 2010 Posted March 24, 2010 haha, got it! So either Dogura didn't have anyone waiting behind him at a-cho, or he's using his reputation questionably, heh
ElvenShadow Posted March 25, 2010 Author Posted March 25, 2010 sometimes when 2 top players or guys that are friends are there playing eachother, they dont even stand up after losing cuz they wanna play a long set. Sometimes they might stand up but will sorta like guard the seat and sit down right away too. Thats pretty much what Sadou and Isa were doing last week. It sucks cuz sometimes I wanna jump in but I dont really get a chance. But it doesnt happen that often though. I never really see anyone say or do anything about it. Its probably considered rude but most Japanese people wont bother to call them out on it. I dont care that much really.
ElvenShadow Posted March 25, 2010 Author Posted March 25, 2010 Oh and regarding G3 Johnny-o cup, if anyone wants to see the brackets and schedule its up here http://game2d.web.fc2.com/ggxx/ (click on the 5th link from the top to see the brackets and schedule) for those who cant read Japanese on Saturday, there will be the singles tournament first, the brackets are already up and determined. This is not an open tournament and participants are already determined by the ranbats that were held (that I completely missed) After that will be the 5 on 5 team tournament which also had pre determined teams finally will be the classic 23 on 23 all events on Saturday I will not be able to participate in but I will go watch and play casuals As for Sunday First theres a ladies tournament (i wont play in that of course) then there is a random 5 on 5 team tournament which I am pretty sure anyone can enter so I will enter that last is the Accident Core tournament where the damage setting is set to double damage. I will enter this too should be fun also random question, if you look at the team tournament brackets, it shows a player named N.O is signed up as Testament. Im not sure if this is the same N.O who would usually have his name as N-ç”·, but if it is the same guy, it certainly would be odd that he would change characters after winning SBO twice in a row with Venom. Thoughts?
vedasisme Posted March 25, 2010 Posted March 25, 2010 I see 0 playing Chipp and machabou playing Testament...so if it really is N.O playing Testament, it's probably just a bunch of guys bringing their 'B' game. There is, after all, a tourney called "accident" core, so I bet some people don't plan on playing srs.
rtl42 Posted March 25, 2010 Posted March 25, 2010 also random question, if you look at the team tournament brackets, it shows a player named N.O is signed up as Testament. Im not sure if this is the same N.O who would usually have his name as N-ç”·, but if it is the same guy, it certainly would be odd that he would change characters after winning SBO twice in a row with Venom. Thoughts? i've seen this N.O guy several times over the past few G3s, so I don't *think* it's the Venom player N-O from Kansai.
BioLogIn Posted March 25, 2010 Posted March 25, 2010 I've seen N-O the Testament player in videos quite a while, even like two years ago. There even was a discussion somewhere around the dustloop, with some people claiming it is the N-Otoko, and some people saying it is the different person. It would be cool if this time you can find this N-O person at the tournament and confirm if he is N-otoko or not =)
ElvenShadow Posted March 25, 2010 Author Posted March 25, 2010 oh then its probably not n-otoko. I know what he looks like so I can easily confirm it if I see him playing Testament, but its probly not him. But yea, I noticed 0 was playing as Chipp too. Kinda odd, maybe he changed mains.
vedasisme Posted March 25, 2010 Posted March 25, 2010 If he did change mains, he better make a damn good showing or else you should tell him he's got a lot of fans of his HOS.
rtl42 Posted March 25, 2010 Posted March 25, 2010 i couldn't see if there was a rule about it on the website, but you'll notice that one of his teammates is already playing HOS, so maybe they compromised somehow and 0 ended up playing Chipp?
shezmu Posted March 26, 2010 Posted March 26, 2010 Pro Japanese players can change mains and not suck? Is there something that I'm missing?
ElvenShadow Posted March 26, 2010 Author Posted March 26, 2010 lots of good Japanese players can use multiple characters well
shezmu Posted March 26, 2010 Posted March 26, 2010 lots of good Japanese players can use multiple characters well For some reason unknown to me, I was thinking that Pro japanese players just practice and get very good at one character without picking any subs. Speaking of practice, a post about how high-tier players practice would be godlike.
Hintalove Posted April 7, 2010 Posted April 7, 2010 Pro jap players play ungodly ammounts of their chosen game. They use alts when playing with friends/when no good comp is around. Probably also use alts just to have fun.
rtl42 Posted April 7, 2010 Posted April 7, 2010 actually i was curious, do you have a rough estimate of how often some of those guys go to arcades in a week? like every day, several hours (almost like a part-time job), or something like that?
ElvenShadow Posted April 7, 2010 Author Posted April 7, 2010 blog is updated! I also uploaded a ton of pictures from the trip, but I should have more coming eventually. These are all the ones I took but there are some I wanna get from other people and add them too. This blog update is very long, so I only did part 1 today. I will post part 2 tomorrow, so go ahead and read part 1 for now, which covers G3 and up to the point where we get on the bus to leave for Osaka. BTW, I do not have full results for G3, and I cant find them on the site, if anyone has seen the full results or any vids (they were taping everything) please post a link. RTL, I really dont know cuz I am hardly around on weekdays since Tokyo is very far from me, but I saw some of those guys playing like at least 3 of the days in Sat/Sun/Mon/Tue during the time I was in Tokyo before we left for Osaka. also Matt, now that SBO quals schedule has been released, we can talk about when you wanna come visit cuz I have a better idea of whats going on EDIT: was at work earlier so I didnt wanna check but I just checked and theres a bunch of G3 vids on Niconico already EDIT 2: Upon further inspection, those are old...
rtl42 Posted April 7, 2010 Posted April 7, 2010 sorry, i was sorta aiming that at Matt since he mentioned it. (that's not to say you wouldn't know, of course!)
ElvenShadow Posted April 7, 2010 Author Posted April 7, 2010 yea Matt would probly know better than me since he actually lived in Tokyo all the time where as I only live there on weekends lol
Hintalove Posted April 7, 2010 Posted April 7, 2010 I'd say most of them play at least 5 nights a week. Obviously some more and some less. If you follow the Tokyo scene for example, fri/sat and usually sunday are pretty busy. Wednesday is also a great night. I think there is a tourney on thurs at Mikado and judging from looking at the old brackets there are lots of heavy hitters attending that. I can't say for sure anything about the days outside of that, but in my experience I can't recall too many times I've been to vegas/mikado in the evening and there wasn't some body famous. As for coming this summer, I think I am going to be coming at the tail end of may, and I have to be back by the 24th of june in order to make it to the DT/Maiden concert. How does that timeframe sound?
ElvenShadow Posted April 7, 2010 Author Posted April 7, 2010 The Mikado GG tournys are on Tuesday unless they have more than one per week cuz I went to the Tuesday one while I was there. Matt, that time frame is fine. let me know when you book your flight and stuff
ElvenShadow Posted April 8, 2010 Author Posted April 8, 2010 blog has been updated with part 2 of my spring break adventure! The 3rd and final chapter will be posted tomorrow. enjoy
ElvenShadow Posted April 9, 2010 Author Posted April 9, 2010 ok, part 3 is up! Finally done typing all that! Please feel free to leave some comments, it makes me feel like all that typing wasnt for nothing if I know people are actually reading it heh
Honnou Posted April 9, 2010 Posted April 9, 2010 wow that elvenshadow deepthroat competition at the doctor sounded pretty epic man drunkenness in japan is always hype for no reason. I don't think anyone can understand this until they go.
axel Posted April 10, 2010 Posted April 10, 2010 Attsun was at the tournament? He was probably the best I-no back in #R days, and Koichi was teaming with ABEGEN playing Millia.
