Title might be a bit mis-leading but, i've been having trouble moving on to other characters. Actually learn their tactics, combos and playstyle. The reason i have found was because I think playing Bang for so long has crippled me over all as a player. I've been using him since CT and im not so sure about how to use anyone else correctly or even feel the need to learn anyone else. And the fact that he has so many tools and even more massive combos in CS, i don't think i have the time to find a sub.

Is there anyway I can overcome this problem of mine?:I:

The majority of the cast is not pick-up-and-play anymore. I spent two hours last night relearning Noel, and 3 hours today practicing Lambda's TK loop.

You do have time to find a sub. Just find a character you like, try a few of their Challenges, and screw around with them in Training. It may take some time, but you could set up a Player Room and invite some friends to help you train.

I also find with subs that I don't look at their character forums a lot. It doesn't hurt to look at them, of course.

I have been spending more time in training mode than ever. I'll start looking at my subs forums as well. i'm really a fan of finding out my own things first though but right now i need alot of help.

yeah, I had to re-learn Jin.... apparantly I had no idea what I was doing....

though thankfully Jin's not hard to learn and leaves few impressions in terms of style.... except methodically pressing 214B at the end of combos

and my sub (lolRagnalol) isn't hard to learn, though learning Hazama is rather odd (mostly mobility wise) and Haku is just for when I want lulz and troll friends....

I don't think that any character is particularly hard to learn, by normal fighting game standards. The issue is that what you learn with one character is generally not applicable to others, due to the vast differences in style and even gameplay mechanics between them. With a couple exceptions you can't expect to just learn their combos and win with the same overall strategy, like some other fighting games I won't mention. I chose to play subs that are as different as possible from my main, partly to spice things up and partly because there isn't much alternative anyway. If nothing else that makes it easier to compartmentalize, so your practice with one character doesn't screw you up when you go back to the other.

What's giving you trouble? Combos? Finding a sub you like? Effective tactics with that character?

I think the trouble stems from 2 things. Muscle memory with bang makes using other characters moves and combos hard and uncomfortable for me and the fact that i just started to use a stick 2 weeks ago.(i've gotten used to it though but i have faults)

It's taken me a bit to get reused to my old mains (except Tager lol). Ragna was easy as hell to relearn and he is the character I tell everyone to try learning first. Bang didn't take too much longer than Ragna. Jin was always my weakest main and he's really starting to fall off my list. I'm trying to learn Hazama and that's taking some real effort, but I think this is just an issue of hitting Training Mode and building muscle memory to the point where you forget how you used to play CT.

Yeah, it's called practice. Get used to it.

Seriously though, the only way you can build up muscle memory and get used to stick is to simply practice. One of the most important parts of learning stick is to find a comfortable grip. When it comes to learning combos, just hit Training Mode and don't leave until you've got it down (or are frustrated to the point of wanting to hurl your stick to the wall).

The only crippling I feel is going from a running character to a dashing character. It annoys the crap out of me, particularly with Hazama for some reason.

I had the same problem as you in CT, where I could only really use Arakune. I don't seem to have that problem anymore, although I'm still terrible with everyone that doesn't kick your ass with 160 hit combos.

I don't know how to play characters that aren't Tager anymore. : (

No problem doing combos and shit like that with my sub, Bang, but I feel like a fish stuck in an airplane landing in a corn field trying to get in and do pressure.

Never a good idea to play ONE character TBH.

I agree I only played as Ragna in ct and it messed me up. Playing as Tsubaki now does not compute. Its not so much the combos, its more the execution of the combos and how im supposed to use her in combat.

Haku was so easy to pick up in CS. Just by watching videos I already knew his optimal combos coming into CS, and the transition was awesome. They pretty much just added to what he had. Only thing I had to get used to was cutting projectiles and such.

As for learning other chars I'll agree to the other poster that in CS characters aren't pick-up and play. In CT I learned almost everyone's combos and just mashed with 'em and it worked pretty well, but now the characters feel much more specialized and defined, so it's been harder for me to pick up extra characters. (which is fine, I'm still working on getting Mu up)

Good luck to you, good sir in learning new characters :D

You'll need it :3

Picking up subs for me is hard as well. I don't help that my best sub is nerfed into oblivion (Rachel). I found Hazama pretty easy to play, yes even the movement and stuff so i'm trying to pick him up, i'm just having a huge problem, getting out of pressure. It feels like his only tool is IB houtenjin, but the person i play the most is a very good Ragna, so he usually counters that move with a Infernal Divider. Maybe i just suck, but it feels like Tager is the only character that works for me, in SSF4 i can play pretty much every character competitively except El Fuerte.

Since I played Carl exclusively in Calamity Trigger, it actually took some getting used to simple concepts such as dash cancelling when doing the challenges for the other characters. I finished Carl's with little trouble, but I'm stuck at 30% for some of the supposedly "easy" characters to this day.

Take that as you will. :v:

Never a good idea to play ONE character TBH.

Some people might argue the contrary: that you can never bring out your best potential if you spend a lot of your time playing (and gathering matchup experience for) sub characters instead of your main.

Its never good to play the whole roaster, but i say that everybody even pros, should at least play some other characters than their main. However for tournaments and such i say its best to stick with just one character and not counter pick it might get you somewhere, but never all the way imo, not even in street fighter where counter picking is a bigger part of the game than it is in BB.

A quick and easy pickup would be Ragna. 10 mins and you'll be good. 20 and you'll be tourney ready.

I understand this, as I still don't have a real sub either. If I had to pick it'd be Tao, but only because she was the first character I used in the game, and the only other character I can fight with and still have some hope of winning. Can't say I know jack shit about her though. xP I've played Nu/Lambchops for awhile now, so everyone else feels weird to me. I'm used to the zoning and ranged combos so hitting people up close (especially aerial combos) feels odd, and is hard for me. It doesn't help that this is the first time I've really played a fighting game seriously, and am still learning the mechanics of it.

i pretty much have this problem. i guess it might because 1. i don't have the patience to learn another character. 2. i used only tager for so long i'm only used to using tager's inputs.

I have this same problem as well, been playing Hakumen since CT, and can't seem to get my groove with anyone else now. Been trying with Tsubaki, but not feeling it yet. Will try with Valk as well when he is out.

l find picking people up to be extremely easy, if you're dedicated that is. My problem is that... most of the cast is just uninteresting.

l'm about to learn Lambda, however.

After doin the whole autopilot with Bang for so long in CT and a lil in CS.......youd think itd be hard to pick up a chracter like Carl.

Though sometimes i do try to 5A my way to victory with carl sometimes but other than that i havent really had any problems :toot:

Its become increasingly difficult for me to use any sort of rushdown/pressure character thanks to my main (Tager) and my subs (Lambda/Hazama) because out of the three only Lambda can even RUN (and why would you do that? lulz) and none of them are known for their stellar offense... it makes me kind of sad because I do like fiddling around with other characters from time to time and now doing so a lot of the time makes playing feel like trying to jog up a 70 degree hill made of mud with a backpack full of cinder blocks

Played Hakumen and Jin in CT, I just can't get used to Hakumen's pogo stick remapped to j.2A. Jin feels like Ky in #Reload now, that being hard to win with in real matches. I'm maining Hazama now and he sorta came natural to me, don't really have any trouble moving with chains and combos are all just different variations of the 2-3 that he has, probably easy for me to use because I find his play style amusing.

ummm..... well try the whole roster first before choosing a sub main.I don't have a sub main at all.I main Carl and Carl only mainly because I love shotas..-. it didn't take me that long to learn his style.trying out the whole roster made me somewhat decent but not good with all the characters.ragna, jin, and noel are good starters since they have a solid learning curve so try them first then move on to another character until you found someone you think suits your playstyle.if you keep losing, don't you worry keep practicing,it doesn't make you perfect but it makes you better.
