TITANIUM BEAST!!! Posted September 15, 2010 Posted September 15, 2010 And with that, I'm going to bed. I dunno why I stayed up so late for it to come to this.
Roskistrike Posted September 15, 2010 Posted September 15, 2010 What in the hell...why do people mix games and real life? You can't have a discussion with Ed, you can only hear him (PROTIP DONT LISTEN), because any attempt at a valid point or even factual statement is completely disregarded in lieu of his perfect knowledge. Don't forget, "you" are "their" enemy. Thanks for taking the time to write all that. You know, I had it in my mind that the entire time we were fighting, you were just throwing out st.HK, I didn't even consider you could be reacting with it, since I didn't feel like it was something you could react with. I just thought it was more of a general "stay back" maneuver to put some shit in front of you that beats my moves. I know you did react to CW and what not but my plan then was to try to CW as you walked forward and catch your st.HK. No problem man. Play offline more and you'll have a better sense of what you can react to and with; it's really not hard (HK vs CW at midrange). I'm not going to try to throw HK randomly because I can get hit by a whole host of other shit. As far as the Abel stuff, yeah, you are right, but I feel like holding up is as much of a commitment as holding back, as then they run the risk of getting thrown. You pretty much risk the same punishment either way. Opponent blocks... big punisher. Opponent jumps... bigger punisher. But then you say you can react to throws... do you visually see yourself being thrown and hit throw break or are you reacting to the pause > move forward of your opponent? Because if it's the latter then walk forward wait attack would catch you... and I find it hard to believe you can really react to being thrown visually, moreso the cues that a throw is coming I'd think. I think you missed the point with Abel. Abel, on offense, forces the opponent to guess. If he sets up that situation, holds downback and then reacts to their decision, it's a lot less dangerous. Abel guesses on offense. He forces you to guess on defense. He's good at that. Fei Long isn't as good at guessing on offense right next you, especially with flame kick. Flame kick doesn't even give you oki. Fei Long isn't going to make me move from downback like Abel will. If you have to guess on defense, or have the meter to, fine, but you're overextending yourself for some odd reason on offense when you already have control of the match. Ask Angus. I play him a lot offline (well maybe 80-90 matches a week), and while sometimes I do react to the situation, I do also react to the throws. Even if you're bad at it, and you do it late, all you're taking damage wise is the throw. So you could block and react (or try to), or you could mash out some shit and let me take 40% instead. I do get what you're saying though. Guessing with moves that won't be punished horrendously is better than guessing with shit that gets you killed. I feel like DPs do cover a lot of bases though, but you give up safety in return for that. Blocking covers bases. Make people fight for their damage, why give that shit away for free? Also thinking about CW, it's pretty much weighted the same as far as risk / reward as a reversal option as EX psycho. I could see this rationale if you did CW in my face, or if I repeatedly did 3/4 screen ex crushers for no reason but to hope it hits you. Without flame kick its hard to make throws scary though, IMO. Crouching short confirmed into combo makes throws scary, safe invincible move (CW) in my face makes throws scary, proper delay to beat crouch techs (easier offline!) makes throws scary. I think you're looking at this backwards, or either from the perspective of someone who only plays people who mash reversal (...again, online). But yeah go back and watch our match if you have some time, I know it doesn't have the whole fight but it's got the first 2 matches: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mhRdSQzy3l4 I actually think I was playing pretty well till I started jumping too much and moving forward constantly. Maybe if I just mixed up my advances and pulled back for a while it would have gone better. Thoughts? Hey, I just watched it again. I didn't really play well until that 5th round, but after that, I started to move smarter. I was playing sloppy because of how much I didn't want to lose to you again but I won that round and got my confidence =p. I threw you out of a crouching short or two. If you waited, and tried to react, that may have gone different. You gave me free damage with CW and jumping at me. If you walked more, and blocked, you could push me to the corner easier. Bison's options with bar vs without are vastly different, so I think the goal is to make him expend as much as possible without taking damage when it happens. When he's out, put on the pressure or hit him trying to build it. It was a good match but you handed me a lot.
purify Posted September 15, 2010 Posted September 15, 2010 I've never been comfortable enough around Ed to joke with him like that. Leading up to when me/him had problems, I would only talk to him when he talked to me because I thought he was so intimidating and from the stories I had heard. I'll only give shit to people that I know well enough, definitely not some big loud guy everybody warned me about. I beat him in some games. That's all it was. He insisted on Ky vs Ky mirrors in GG to prove to me I was garbage. Like I said, it's cool you guys get along. I can't be his friend though, he hasn't allowed it. Also, I stick up for you too, you know. Not all the time, because I'm not trying to play you, but even just today I was telling somebody how I respected you in every game. Everybody's heard me inject "I like Jon!" in conversations. I'll get behind you when appropriate. Most recently though, you should really consider Roski's advice. You can say that Matt's out to get you, but Alex most likely just wants to help you, right? (re: SSF4 and games etc, not talking about Ed right now) edit: lol Roski, I mix games/life because this is my social life! Sometimes people like Ed drag me through poo though. Just going to have a distant courteous neutral type deal with him now, I guess.. Find some other BLACK PEOPLE TO PISS OFF! GRAHHHHHHHH
Roskistrike Posted September 15, 2010 Posted September 15, 2010 HOLY SHIT stuff blew up while I was typing that LOL. I had some shit about Ed but removed it to remain positive and for the fact that I don't really give a shit about him...and you just rationalized his actions assuming the perspective of someone who thinks that all people of a certain race are out to get him. Alriiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiightttttttttttttt (?). If that dude were starving, and my dick was the only food left on the planet, I would probably cut off my dick and burn it in front of him. Then I would dress up like Dee Jay and spit all over him while I bleed from my crotch. MAX OUT. Jon, truthfully, and maybe this is just from my perspective, since I hate all people who aren't hairy like I am and wish they were all dead, but I don't see people putting you down nearly as much as I do you deflecting and reforming constructive criticisms toward how you play into some sort personal attack. It really has nothing to do with you as a person; ITS JUST THE GAMES, but I guess if you always think that someone is attacking you personally, you don't have to accept any mistakes. Except you're not hairy and white like I am so you can't see my Yoga Fire book and I hate your fucking guts. Play me more so I can steal your knowledge you fucking hairless white piece of shit. KOFXII. 3S is dead because I lose in 3S but fuck SFIV because I lost in SFIV so play 3S. KOFXII I talk about T6 but KOFXII.

Villainous Posted September 15, 2010 Posted September 15, 2010 What in the hell...why do people mix games and real life? I don't have a real life to mix with the games. You can't have a discussion with Ed, you can only hear him (PROTIP DONT LISTEN), because any attempt at a valid point or even factual statement is completely disregarded in lieu of his perfect knowledge. Don't forget, "you" are "their" enemy. This much is true. I think you missed the point with Abel. Abel, on offense, forces the opponent to guess. If you have to guess on defense, or have the meter to, fine, but you're overextending yourself for some odd reason on offense when you already have control of the match. Nah I get what you're saying, was saying flame kick PLUS the throws is what makes it more threatening but you're right it could be done with normals, but normals also lose to invincible shit and some other stuff that DPs beat. True, there was an article that said something about that a while back. Still feels like they'd just throw you repeatedly if they saw you were resolved to just defend. I guess I just gotta get comfortable with that. I could see this rationale if you did CW in my face, or if I repeatedly did 3/4 screen ex crushers for no reason but to hope it hits you. That's usually the only place I use it unless it's part of my footsie rotation for that character. I thought it was vs Bison, but apparently it's not so that won't happen again. Hey, I just watched it again. I didn't really play well until that 5th round, but after that, I started to move smarter. I was playing sloppy because of how much I didn't want to lose to you again but I won that round and got my confidence =p. I threw you out of a crouching short or two. When he's out, put on the pressure or hit him trying to build it. It was a good match but you handed me a lot. Yeah I pretty much agree here. Will take note of that in the future. I was jumping so much because I couldn't catch up to you by walking but that was a terrible idea. I just got lazy / impatient. Definitely something I need to break. I've never been comfortable enough around Ed to joke with him like that. You should just say what you want really. He might be big and black but he's not going to beat your ass randomly like that. He knows the consequences for BEATING A WHITE MAN IN THE SOUTH. but even just today I was telling somebody how I respected you in every game. Everybody's heard me inject "I like Jon!" in conversations. I'll get behind you when appropriate. Most recently though, you should really consider Roski's advice. You can say that Matt's out to get you, but Alex most likely just wants to help you, right? (re: SSF4 and games etc, not talking about Ed right now) Well I appreciate it man, and it's definitely one of the reasons you're one of the few people i'd actually like to hang out with outside of this community. I guess I haven't been around for the sticking up usually. As for Roski, actually his stuff is the kinda stuff I want. I've never thought Roski was a disrespectful person, he's actually one of the people I LIKE having in the community. Definitely taking it to heart and I'd love to see more of stuff like this from other people. There's no condescension, no attitude, just straight talk. And yes Matt is out to get me sometimes. Not lately though. HOLY SHIT stuff blew up while I was typing that LOL. I had some shit about Ed but removed it to remain positive and for the fact that I don't really give a shit about him...and you just rationalized his actions assuming the perspective of someone who thinks that all people of a certain race are out to get him. A good deal of it is personal attacks, a lot of it is in person, sometimes online, but yeah I'll try to point out what I think is personal next time I see it. Like I said, our talk has been good shit. I've never really thought you were making stuff personal so... to quote rick... I RESPECT THAT. Also lol at the whole post... amazing. he likes KOF12 because it's the holy grail no one beats him in because NO ONE PLAYS IT
Lol Sadguy Posted September 15, 2010 Posted September 15, 2010 Man, y'all niggaz is some drama queens.
Critical Edge Posted September 15, 2010 Posted September 15, 2010 Hello gents, I'm Critical Edge. Since I'm in NC I thought I should introduce myself. I play mostly BlazBlue: Continuum Shift and dabble a bit in Super Street Fighter 4 (I don't own the game though). In BBCS I play a pretty mediocre Hazama, used to play as Taokaka with Ragna as a sub in CT. When I sit down to play some SSF4 when it's available, I play the worst Dudley known to mankind (I can't do most of his special attacks consistently, and I don't know any of the game mechanics as a whole like Focus Attacks). So, if you want to hit me up on BBCS and beat my Hazama senseless, my PSN is CriticalZero. If there's any BBCS throwdowns in the Charlotte area, let me know and I'll try and be there - which might not even be possible at this point since I can't even drive. Anyway, just making myself known. Peace.

RoboCurse Posted September 15, 2010 Posted September 15, 2010 Why is Roski talking about cooking dicks?! Welcome, Critical Zero, I do believe you have some people nearby in Charlotte to play, you will probably need to contact them on shoryuken.com though since I don't think any of them check here.
ryucross Posted September 15, 2010 Posted September 15, 2010 As a footnote to the Ed debate, I'd like to mention that I have a very good reason for not staying around Ed: his body odor causes me sinus problems. Yes, that's right, I am physically allergic to Ed. If I'm around him more than 20 minutes at a time I can't breathe the next day. That, and I've seen the way he treats his "friends" and decided I didn't want to be one of them. I can't respect him for the same reasons.

Not lately though. Ok sure. I wake up and think to myself "How can I piss Jon off today?" The truth is, almost every issue I've had with you has been game related, and that's because I know you're talented enough to be better than you are results wise. The problem is your issues in game are also issues that affect you in real life, and my theory is that you know this too, which is why you take my game related criticism so personally; I'm talking about games, but it cuts a little deeper than that, no emo. I'm not out to get anybody. Except Jimmy. Fuck Jimmy. On a semi-related note, there's a chance of moar games occurring at my place tonight. We may have PacStrifeGenocide here, provided he hasn't got 5 assignments due in an hour that he hasn't started on yet.
Roskistrike Posted September 15, 2010 Posted September 15, 2010 Real talk? Fuck Jimmy and the horse he rode in on.
EmoPrinny Posted September 15, 2010 Posted September 15, 2010 What the fuck. I don't look here for like a week and all this happens lol damn. Anyway Brent / Doug...After this last weekend I am somewhat interested in soul calibur again Video game ADHD sux
PacStrife Posted September 15, 2010 Posted September 15, 2010 When did Jimmy get a horse? I don't think his cat could hold all of his weight either, due to the amount of time he spends choking her out.
RoboCurse Posted September 15, 2010 Posted September 15, 2010 What happened last weekend? Huge SC4 tournament went down in Massachusetts. Friend of mine that lives up there asked a guy who had a stick with North Carolina written on it, asked him if he knew any of us, he didn't but RTD remembered me randomly. RTD remembers everybody! lol the guy with the NC stick wasn't even from NC. Maybe Jimmy's moving up, he starts chokin out cats, moves up to horses, working his way up to a bona-fide grizzly bear.

Nice that he still uses the stick if that's the case.

Nah I just don't like people being on my case all the time, for realsies. Being able to go to a gathering or tournament and not having people discuss the merits / validity of my gameplay would be really nice, I guess it's just always confused me why everyone is so dumbfounded by what I'm doing when I'm just playing with what makes sense to me. I probably don't have the thickest of skin, and I probably could take criticism better. But the amount I get is definitely disproportionate to everyone else (not just you), on top of the fact I do pretty well most of the time so in my head it's like fuck why do these people not leave me alone about this stuff. The only real life parallel to gaming I see is that I like to make up my own mind because I KNOW I think differently than other people on some things... so generally I want to figure out things in a game and playstyle that make sense to me. I don't think I could play like you or Roski and have it work for me. I might get to that point somehow through my own processes but just trying to do it straight up wouldn't have all the necessary foundation, if that makes sense. I think if we singled you out enough you would probably start taking it personally too. Also on an unrelated note: I had a dream last night that me and Brent were gonna be on a reality show. There was some old rock band that was picking 1 person for each of the members to be their contestant and they were gonna see who won. I'm not entirely sure WHAT the contest was because it seemed like all we did was drive around and eat and play PSP on the tour bus though. The intro totally had chibi versions of us in it though... chibi Brent was godlike. Random dream is random.
longshot Posted September 15, 2010 Posted September 15, 2010 Jason: If (and I'm sure that's a big "if") you really did decide to start playing some again, that'd be very cool. It'd increase the current roster by 133%! I actually knew about that SC tournament, and it sounded really fun and hype. But both my parents' birthdays being around that weekend meant visiting them took priority.

But watching Mick play X was like daaaaamn. Seriously has me considering trying to play again and play her.
longshot Posted September 15, 2010 Posted September 15, 2010 Ahhh, I didn't know you were going up there! Is it true Mick beat SU 5-0 in a FT5, like I thought I saw on the 8WR thread? That's crazy if true, as SU is a really good player.
