Just play in a tournament. It doesn't matter if you're terrible or not. Meet new people and we can probably help you out. It's the best way to get involved in a fighting game community than stay at home with bb netplay and being a stream monster. Besides, it shouldn't be too far from you. There are people who enter tournaments even though they don't play the game. Yes, there are casuals on the side but you should enter the tournament.

Says the guy who watches the stream from his computer instead of watching the match IRL.

QUOTE FOR TRUTH!

yeah, if you bother to come out, you should enter. It might sound silly, but 2 matches of tournament play, are equal 200 matches of casual play in terms of improving your game. There is something about playing for real, playing for keeps that will make you see way more about whats going on in the match.

You will enjoy it, and will learn a lot. Sure you might get smashed your first few tournies, but you'll make good friends and gain respect. For the most part in fighting game communities, people will give you props if you go out and play your hardest, and try and improve. The best way to stay crappy at a fighting game, and have the community ignore you is to sit on the side lines.

Step up to the plate (or stick in this case), win or lose you'll get better, and you'll have a good time doing it.

Says the guy who hates the game and said he doesn't play the game when he really does play it.

Except I don't play it. :kitty:

Oh really?

I wanna see if I can make it out to NCI next time. I don't think I'd play in the tournament, since I'm pretty terrible. But I feel like watching the stream from home really doesn't do the hype justice. Are there usually people playing casuals off to the side somewhere, or does that usually not happen? Even if there's none of that, it'd be cool to hang out and watch.

Enter the tournaments. None of us care if you're new and not very familiar with the game yet. We just want people who will try and won't just quit after losing a few games.

yeah. personally i don't care about new people as i have very low expectations of new players and the scene is very stagnant now. fighting games are something that take serious time and dedication to learn. but when someone new enters, it means something. when they enter again next month, they get even more respect.

i hope to see more people enter gg and mb. if you see an asian guy playing jam, that's me.

i've actually been thinking about holding tutorial sessions; kinda like what we did to dacidbro in gg, but with a bit less hazing. :)

But that's the best part!

Qwerty is the last person I'd want to teach me how to play GG.

I dunno, man. I enjoy all the shots I took watching him lose on stream. I don't know how I'm still alive though.

every nci i go to, there are usually people telling me 'hey you need to teach me this melty blood game sometime' but they generally don't take any more initiative than that.

anyways this is for those people and some new people who showed more interest than usual and even sat down to play the game and received coaching from us regulars. taken from meltybread.

This is the first in hopefully a series of videos where members of the community will analyze match videos in the form of annotations or subs. People that are new to MB can learn a lot about the gameflow and why certain decisions are being made, while even veteran players can gain insight or a second opinion. The idea is to do something similar to Crow's annotated vids for his own Tekken matches, example here

Anyway, first vid is from the top8 of the 21st a-cho mbaa ranbat in September 2009

Tsujisosu(C-Warc) vs GO1(H-VSion), annotated by Sp00ky

Second vid is from a 3on3 exhibition tourney held at a-cho in May 2009

GO1(H-VSion), Kou(F-Miyako) vs Nakau(C-Kohaku), annotated by Pfhor

From the March 2009 Yokohama Freeplay vids

Hagi(H-Kohaku) vs Gekka(H-Hisui), Nase(H-Shiki), annotated by LordKnight

I'd play melty more if I had regular access to it. As is the best I can do is have Sims beat on me with Nero a bunch and training mode every now and then lol.

I don't own Melty for my PS2...that and people who play not being around me are the only things holding me back...

I'm learning it, believe it or not. I just suck at it.

Doritos are hard to get going, and once you eat one hit you get corner pressured to death.

yeah, but you're a WORLDCHAMP, you can take that kind of shit in stride

what about everyone else, huh?

I want in on these gg coaching sessions! I know the system pretty much. Just wanna learn how to play against other people instead of the AI set on Very Hard/Lunatic.
