Spirit Juice Posted November 21, 2010 Author Posted November 21, 2010 Tsubasa David, if you're coming to NCR today, could you bring your PS2 and a copy of GG? NEVERMIND. NO BYOC TODAY.
Skubator Posted November 21, 2010 Posted November 21, 2010 It's the A-1 Comics in Roseville. Good place. I know it. I go there all the time, and give them entirely too much money considering how unstable my income is.
sakabato24 Posted November 21, 2010 Posted November 21, 2010 I know it. I go there all the time, and give them entirely too much money considering how unstable my income is. I know right? I feel like dropping a lot of money to their store, but I resist as much as possible. xD So everyone is A-Okay for me to run it there?
qwerty Posted November 21, 2010 Posted November 21, 2010 NEVERMIND. NO BYOC TODAY. what gayness glad i didn't go, even if it meant missing xiii
qwerty Posted November 21, 2010 Posted November 21, 2010 because ya'll are lazy and dumb. if the scene was really arcade dependent, why would there be a decent amount of closet socal players who don't go to arcades but still make that bottom 90% of norcal twiddle their toes. and they didn't used to travel to tournaments or go to arcades? and if you think the scene isn't arcade dependent (or if you must, replace arcade with "place people can play at whenever") then uh, why is japan so good? lol. (and this isn't an excuse, fagbot) and yeah lol "new faces" in norcal. i'm about the newest face there is, and i've been at this for 2 and a half years now.
Spirit Juice Posted November 21, 2010 Author Posted November 21, 2010 Oh there is BYOC today, but it's kind of limited in size and room. No KOF13, but MvC3 is up. Would be cool to play some GG today.
Arvoyea Posted November 21, 2010 Posted November 21, 2010 I agree with this actually. I think we need to do more gatherings about improving players. We should do a gathering where one newer/bad player goes up on a set up and then plays like 50 matches in a row against different players for each match, with other players coaching while they play. Like what we did to Dacid that one time he tried GG. I think it would be really be a help to newer players. my 2 cents. Also I went to some random arcade in yokohama tonight ( Game In Seven Islands was its name), and I got raped. No surprise, of course. But damn, the random scrubs there have crazy execution. fuck. Though I think I learned more tonight then I did at the last 3 gatherings. I'll be going to mikado later this week. I will get raped more. I hope to learn from it. That is actually a great idea. I also thought it would be cool if we had a setup for just casuals, and have a line that losers go into and the winner stays until they lose, just like the arcade. Even can have some sort of money match like that. I just wanna say please have some gatherings that I can actually have a chance of going to. Most of the time it's too far, and usually I can't find a carpool...so yeah. It's the A-1 Comics in Roseville. Good place. I know I live near that place. Is it nearby a grocery store? I know right? I feel like dropping a lot of money to their store, but I resist as much as possible. xD So everyone is A-Okay for me to run it there? If it's during Winter break for me, then that's a yes. I'd like to get a date first before saying something though.
sakabato24 Posted November 21, 2010 Posted November 21, 2010 I know I live near that place. Is it nearby a grocery store? If it's during Winter break for me, then that's a yes. I'd like to get a date first before saying something though. Yep, near the Safeway there. Is December 18th fine with everyone? I'll try to schedule it on that date. Just have to check around here if there's any conflicting dates with other tournaments.

Just have to check around here if there's any conflicting dates with other tournaments. That's fine with me. I'll be done with school for the semester, so there'll be no conflicts there. It's only like a 15 minute drive for me also, so I'd be happy to help with organizational things, if you need it.
brett_ Posted November 22, 2010 Posted November 22, 2010 and they didn't used to travel to tournaments or go to arcades? and if you think the scene isn't arcade dependent (or if you must, replace arcade with "place people can play at whenever") then uh, why is japan so good? lol. Are you really so surprised by the existence of people who flourish outside of an arcade / gathering environment? It's not like I think arcades dont do shit, I am fully aware that they can only help. I'm just saying in this _specific_ situation I dont think the lack of arcades is the big issue. +1 newface > 0 newface :b. -fagbot
qwerty Posted November 22, 2010 Posted November 22, 2010 the issue is that we've only been regularly playing the game at all since rod got back late last year. 08/09 was on and off at best, especially once summer hit and we had no place to play. we would have never ran into that issue if we had somewhere we could play whenever; arcades fit that bill better than anything. that's the reason i played bbct in 09 far more than gg, lol.
tofurr Posted November 22, 2010 Posted November 22, 2010 Yep, near the Safeway there. Is December 18th fine with everyone? I'll try to schedule it on that date. Just have to check around here if there's any conflicting dates with other tournaments. He might be thinking the one that is actually in Sacramento and not Roseville, which is near a Save-Mart. Anyways, I'd try to make. Just make it a definite date and I'll ask for it off from work.

That goes back to the original argument that people in Norcal (except for rod and AJ) don't give a shit about GG enough to actually get better
buzzsaw Posted November 22, 2010 Posted November 22, 2010 but, me and sean! oh yeah, that sean guy too. You don't count because you lost to Dacidbro in tourney
qwerty Posted November 22, 2010 Posted November 22, 2010 that was in a shitty game and it was a 2v2 exhibition, thank-you-very-much
tastylumpia Posted November 22, 2010 Posted November 22, 2010 Seriously though, qwerty has a point. Fact is, arcade players and arcade scenes are far superior to online randoms. Case in point, there's a small handful of semi-serious BB players at the SFSU arcade and they're better than 99% of anyone I've played on PSN. Too bad (not really) they've moved on to other (better) games, but it proves a point. If NorCal had anything like AI where good players play each other regularly we'd be 300% better than we are now.
Spirit Juice Posted November 22, 2010 Author Posted November 22, 2010 This reminds me when I tried to get the GG NorCal scene to play and get better a few years back but no one cared. Too bad you guys didn't play one of the best fighters in it's prime. Stay free.
magz Posted November 22, 2010 Posted November 22, 2010 (edited) Edited out because I don't feel like trolling. Also edited out because apparently midterms aren't exactly midterm anymore. Edited November 22, 2010 by magz
ehuangsan Posted November 22, 2010 Posted November 22, 2010 The fact that I can troll everyone even though I pretty much only play at ranbats is quite telling. I don't even have a legit setup at home, and I'm more or less retired from serious competition, so there is absolutely no reason for me to be doing as well as I do. Outside of Rod, there are maybe like, three or four other people that I do think are seriously improving in GG, but all of those people are simply improving from "completely free" to "mostly free". Most of y'all simply do not seem to care enough. For example, even if you don't have ready access to competition, at the very least y'all could study your own ranbat match videos and figure out where you are going wrong. Hell, I typically do a semi post-mortem through my own match vids a few days before each ranbat so I can relearn how to play the game again before I go. Back in my day, recordings were so scarce that I would've actually paid money for such footage, since it's such an invaluable learning tool. Instead, I use to replay the matches in my mind to figure out what went wrong, which is a really inefficient way of doing things. Y'all are so damn lucky in this regard....but judging from the number of views for the recordings, it seems like I'm the only one who even bothers to review his own matches, which completely boggles my mind. I mean, if you seriously want to get better, shouldn't you at least do that much? Also, I'm taking the week off, so if y'all want me to play GG or whatever and ask questions, I'm willing to do that.
STenSatsu Posted November 22, 2010 Posted November 22, 2010 Meh, I only really get to play at NCI when I'm able to go so I admit I don't have much a reason to practice or anything. If I could make it to the random gatherings that happen I'd probably play more than once a month lol. Early work and being in the north bay keep me from traveling much sadly. Only person that is a challenge around me is Sims. =(
buzzsaw Posted November 22, 2010 Posted November 22, 2010 people don't want to review videos of them playing because most people don't want to admit they are bad at something and they go off and blame something else for their shortcomings.
