Anyone know if there's a waiting period in MD for long guns? I'm thinking about getting a garand as part of my halloween costume, and actually having something that fires .30-06 seems like a good idea in the long term.

Don't worry, I'll be at a private party. Plus, if I was going to wear the gun while giving out candy, that's technically legal since I wouldn't be leaving my house.

BTW, I always thought about how the red caps on toy guns are used to designate them as toys, so kids don't get killed by police as much. Why hasn't some criminal just put a red cap on a real gun, or just paint about an inch from the muzzle in bright red/orange, and just surprise some hapless individual, cop or otherwise?

Anyway, I ended up buying a nerf longstrike, because apparently Toys R Us doesn't sell any realistic looking guns anymore. I'm modding it a bit so it looks less toy-ish, and it still should fit the whole "post-apocalyptic" feel when I'm done, but it won't be as near-future as I would have wanted. On the plus side, I will be able to shoot drunk people, since nerf darts are considered less-than-lethal in gun-cowardly Maryland.
