Quebec is like a bunch of really angsty teens, they have to rebel against everything. From Canada as a country, and from France in terms of language. Fucking kids.

yeah it's something we love saying, it means "eat a load of shit". In french though, it's supposed to be "mange un char de marde" which is literally "eat a car load of shit", but we cut it down to "mange un char" which is literally "eat a car". "Char" means "tank", but it's also slang for "car" or other vehicles in general.

quebec french is better than french from france, real talk. we like to transform words to make our slang, rather than take words directly from english like they do in france. You know how they call "chicken pie"? "chickenpie". Every region has it's own slang, so it's funny to hear people that don't live around your area speak.

oh and I'll give you a hint about what brice said. Srai is just "serait".

yay for kousaka. so I think I heard linear and mr mortified play mahjong? let's do this.

^No it isn't. Quebec french in mtl is like the illegitimate child of French and English. So many english expressions are used(un condom, un condo to name a few). And the english words that are used in French french are only there because the french word is not convenient or doesn't make much sense. A bus stop is called an "arret de bus", but the stop signs in french french says "stop". The stop sign is telling you to stop, not that it's a stop spot, and the literal translation for "stop" in french is "arretez vous" and that's not really practical to put on a sign, so they stick to the "stop"

Another thing that bugs me is "liqueur". Which is supposed to mean alcohol, or a pharmaceutical solution, but here, it means soft drink. TBH, i don't really care but quebec french tries wayyy too hard to be different. Hell they even change the way some stuff is pronounced and written, like "merde" which somehow becomes "marde" in quebec. I live with some french dudes, and when we got here, we were all wondering whether they were really speaking french because we didn't understand anything. And every french speaking person who came from somewhere else has told me the exact same thing.

lol, we don't try to sound different, Quebec French is just much closer to the way the French language sounded back in the 17th century. We've retained this accent while it has changed over the following centuries in France. Back then, even if the word for "me" was written "moi", you pronounced it "moé". And for the different words... well no shit, every language has its share of regional expressions.

I embrace different words, but words that mean something in french and mean something completely different in quebec french is a nono. Tabarnak, caliss, chum, blonde, all cool with me, but i'll NEVER STEP DOWN on the "liqueur".

Imagine drink in london and drink in toronto meaning two very different things.

I once had a boss that was from France who migrated to Canada.

France views Canadian french as the way people talk to their kids in France.

Bunch of gibberish and dumbed down to a point that everybody understands.

I found it insulting but I don't speak french so i wouldn't know.

I guess France doesn't like Quebec? I felt that his words were a bit harsh.

Anyways, he got fired.

Anyways, T12 is upon us.

Hermes: Good to know your back on. See you guys Saturday.

Your Tager is ridiculous, no wonder you made it to the finals in that last tournament. For some reason I thought Tager's 6A was full body guard point so whenever you did it I was like "shit, he's pulling me in, what do I do?" but then I looked in the match-up thread for tager, so I'll be a bit more ready for you. I look forward to casuals with you at T12 too. GGs
