Theupstreamer Posted March 15, 2011 Posted March 15, 2011 Yeah I'm pretty sure I said the only way I would go to conichiwa is if the 10 dollar passes went though. I have faith in marvin though single-handedly teaching everyone how to play everything though. Ruben, gallagher's on saturday?
Greyvangelist Posted March 15, 2011 Posted March 15, 2011 (edited) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kYXf55iwjjc I heard Sentinel was the best character in the game EDIT: so is Phoenix Also someone confirm the tournament time for Wednesday, I just told some people about it and I told them around 5, but that I'd let them know exactly later. Chumaralupa Posted March 15, 2011 Author Posted March 15, 2011 Bionic AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARM too good Oh my god, what a comeback, I lol'ed at not only the match itself but the fact that somebody went through the trouble of making that arcade ending for Marn. In one of the related videos it said "No You Cannot" So I clicked it, it's about Marn, and it's still funny.
Greyvangelist Posted March 15, 2011 Posted March 15, 2011 You know you're awesome when you get a cinematic ending when you fucking LOSE.
milesokeefe Posted March 16, 2011 Posted March 16, 2011 Eh? Ray cut his hair? People play Guilty Gear? Someone told Marn to go home and eat a family meal? ... what exactly does 'keikaku' mean, anyway?
Greyvangelist Posted March 16, 2011 Posted March 16, 2011 So Marco said something about the tournament being NEXT Wednesday... wasn't it supposed to be tomorrow? In any case, are people going to Tempe anyway tomorrow
Chumaralupa Posted March 16, 2011 Author Posted March 16, 2011 Two weeks ago I told him to do it 2 weeks from then during spring break on Wednesday, it sounds like he really doesn't care about this or something. I think he just is looking for an excuse to get rid of the Gamestop card.
Sol-Bumguy Posted March 16, 2011 Posted March 16, 2011 There are a LOT of newbies with potential at these conventions as well as the occasional player already involved in the community. Even if you're not a big fan of anime, I urge you to attend and help some of these newbies get more involved in the more hardcore fighting game community. Marvin/Dr Koku will likely be in attendance. I'm pretty sure Ray mentioned he would be there. JimmyOh mentioned something to me when I saw him over at Showtime Sports Cards as well. Hopefully I'll see a few of you there. -FrankCastleAZ Regarding the Guilty Gear XX: AC tournament, is there a guarantee it will happen, or does it depend on the amount of people that are interested/will attend (on Friday)? I am certain some Phoenix players would be interested in entering if they can make it/if the tournament will actually take place. Perhaps create a pre-reg list?? Also, I apologize for asking silly questions/not looking well enough, but will there be prizes for the top 3 or winners of the tournaments?

Ryuuka Posted March 16, 2011 Posted March 16, 2011 (edited) I'm going to go tomorrow, so whether or not there's a tourney won't affect how much mvc will be there. *Marco says maybe we can do a tourney both this week AND next... Edited March 16, 2011 by Ryuuka
M19Kamikaze Posted March 16, 2011 Posted March 16, 2011 So apparently, everyone is BALD now... dafukk? I'll find out sooner or later, I guess. Is Connichiwa worth the trip?
Asianblade75 Posted March 16, 2011 Posted March 16, 2011 Also, I apologize for asking silly questions/not looking well enough, but will there be prizes for the top 3 or winners of the tournaments? All we get is a certificate that says we're better than everyone else in a Con. Lol. M19, if you go by yourself, then probably not. NOW if you go with us... that's a different story. EDIT: I'm dragging Erik along with me.
Chumaralupa Posted March 16, 2011 Author Posted March 16, 2011 Ok well I'll bring my console+game+sticks+monitor and see what happens, either way I kinda wanna play now since Jill is out and since they used her possessed form instead of her S.T.A.R.S outfit she doesn't play as a zoning character like I thought she would. Good bye Amaterasu.
FrankCastleAZ Posted March 16, 2011 Posted March 16, 2011 Sorry for the book people - :-P Regarding the Guilty Gear XX: AC tournament, is there a guarantee it will happen, or does it depend on the amount of people that are interested/will attend (on Friday)? I am certain some Phoenix players would be interested in entering if they can make it/if the tournament will actually take place. Perhaps create a pre-reg list?? Also, I apologize for asking silly questions/not looking well enough, but will there be prizes for the top 3 or winners of the tournaments? I can guarantee it will happen whether you guys show up or not and whether we have 8 people or 30 people entering. If you guys would like to create a list of who's coming here in this topic to keep track of things I'm all for it, as I think if there's a number of decent players who vocalize that they want to go and are on a listing of a sort then it would encourage other players to attend as well for the competition. Asking about prizes isn't a silly question so no worry. At this particular convention I didn't have any prizes planned besides the certificate for 1st place and the tournament results posted on AZHP's website on the TOURNAMENT RESULTS page. I'm working on them for future events, as I'd like to give the guys from SRK, Dustloop, Smash Boards, Willvolution, Melty Bread etc more reasons to come out rather than competition and recruitment. We would offer buyins and payouts but we can't charge attendees money to enter tournaments at events as attendees already pay a fee to get into the convention in the first place. Although hardcore gamers are used to dealing with venue fees and tournament fees when going to a tourney, the casual gamer or convention attendee isn't and it doesn't fly with the convention directors. All we get is a certificate that says we're better than everyone else in a Con. Lol. M19, if you go by yourself, then probably not. NOW if you go with us... that's a different story. EDIT: I'm dragging Erik along with me. It's good to see you'll be coming and bringing someone along. I know you LOL, but I think if you guys really understand what I'm trying to do with these things you might care a bit more. Besides giving you a location, equipment, double elim bracket and competition (if everyone were to show up), I'm attempting to give you - Recruitment chances. As I mentioned in the initial post, there are a ton of people at conventions (especially anime conventions) who enjoy Guilty Gear and BlazBlue. It might be because they like anime and those games have such an anime influence and feel both in cutscenes and in game, but these people enjoy the games and a lot of them own at least one version of the games at home. You guys have an opportunity to network with gamers who may be decent/good who don't know about Dustloop and tell them about the thread, local scene, house gatherings, small tournaments, ranbats, exchange numbers etc and THAT is what I want. Bottom Line - AZHP is contracted and paid to do these gaming rooms. Whether you guys come and compete/recruit or not, we still get paid. I'm not coming in here and attempting to get you guys involved because it helps me, in fact it takes more of my time and effort to post here and convince you guys to come. I do it because I love fighting games, the competition, the and the people and communities who play them. If enough of you have the passion for GG and BB to get new members involved and attempt to grow the community instead of letting it die and bitching about how people don't play anymore (not to say you guys do that here) then do so. In that case, I'll give it some thought. I hope to see you there. One more thing- Once we get some sponsorships worked out, we'll have prizes and such at conventions and we (AZHP) also plan on doing some buy-in/pay-out tournaments starting in the near future. If it helps you guys attend. I'll throw some stuff in for the top 2 of GG- 1st Place- Winner Certificate Kamiyadori Manga Vols 1-5 (Complete) Bookmans $5 credit slip 2nd Place- Testarotho Manga Vol 1 Bookmans $5 credit slip I'll do what I can to help provide for you guys, let me know if you have suggestions or would like to provide some input. My PM box is open and all of my contact info including my phone number is HERE. -FrankCastleAZ
Synthesis Posted March 16, 2011 Posted March 16, 2011 Have an Arcana Heart 3 tournament, why not. I can bring a PS3 copy and I can give you guys a copy of the game.
Theupstreamer Posted March 16, 2011 Posted March 16, 2011 Frank all I'm going to say is that there's a difference between enjoying the game and enjoying the game enough to actively look for other people to play with (aka, us and how we ended up in this thread). I tried to find people at ASU to play MvC3 and they all gave me the same response. "It's a fun game, but I don't know if I want to take it seriously." Seriously, if people wanted to really learn how to play gg, bb, or even sf4, they would've met us or posted here (or srk) by now. Jimmy, Erik, and Marq are pretty much the kind of people I'm talking about, but they're few and far apart. Have fun whoever bothers to go to Tucson.
Chumaralupa Posted March 16, 2011 Author Posted March 16, 2011 So Brian and Ray remember we were talking about how Okami shoulda been on the DS cause of the stylus? Well, apparently there's a new one coming out for it....... hah..... If I had a DS I'd probably check it out.
Ryuuka Posted March 16, 2011 Posted March 16, 2011 (edited) They did actually make an Okami game for the DS a while ago but it had nothing to do with the original, so I didn't really look into it. The problem with trying to convert people I see at cons is that they're super-casual with no intention of becoming otherwise. They're not interested in playing GG/BB for the actual gameplay - they're in it for the anime influence/characters. That being said, I don't see how beating the crap out of that sort of player is supposed to recruit them, either. Like Ray said, if anyone were actually interested/serious about being competitive, they probably would've already found this place by now. I remember telling a handful of people I met at Saboten about our group, exactly where/when we meet, and a lot of them were even living in Tempe/Mesa. I've yet to hear back from them. In the end, I only go to cons to make myself look gdlk. It's sad, but people nowadays are only interested in fighting games that don't take time to pick up. Nobody wants to invest in a year of nonstop losing before they can start winning. Edited March 16, 2011 by Ryuuka

Nobody wants to invest in a year of nonstop losing before they can start winning. I'm crying tears of joy!! That was so beautiful Brian! /cry And in all serious Ray, the reason I seeked out the PCP gang was because of dinner plans and Mehraj brought me along. Why? Cause dinner plans are hype! No. Jklol. This semester is so damn busy for me to stop by PCP... Ugh. But Blaz IS hype. Also, for cons, the reason I go is because its probably the closests to ranbats than Ruben's apartment. But the toppers for those events are always the more serious players... and all the serious players we already know or met before standing outside of Fry's Electronics on Black Friday night. Danwx2 Posted March 16, 2011 Posted March 16, 2011 So, now that I have a better idea regarding my schedule. . . . . . how is everyone's upcoming weekend? Unless there is something that might get in the way, I have Sat/Sun/Mon of this upcoming weekend looking pretty good, so I was thinking of a potential BBQ Sat (3/19) at me and Jaha's? GG/BB/MvC3/MarioParty/etc. + beer pong. . . it's definitely been a while. Guess I'll have to give Ben, Adam, Jesus, etc a call to check as well. If this doesn't look like a good time, can always look for a better day.
Theupstreamer Posted March 16, 2011 Posted March 16, 2011 Saturday is great for me Dan. I just know that it might be iffy for Ruben since he will be coming back from Tucson, but if he's making an hour drive back here, he might as well go the extra distance to your guys' house haha.
M19Kamikaze Posted March 17, 2011 Posted March 17, 2011 Anybody even hear of this madness? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0j0WM_RBiUI&feature=fvwkrel http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w_2u7-K40rQ&feature=feedf http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0VK7HESsTHo&feature=related
