KatanaDash Posted September 16, 2010 Posted September 16, 2010 Double post incoming: I made up this form, TaoFTW style to help us keep this organized. https://spreadsheets.google.com/viewform?formkey=dGJBSWNEdG9OUW5rSGtfSzRqZ0Q3TGc6MQ The pricing I put up there, could still change, if people really don't like it but I have $3 for venue and NCI + $5 for each tourny entered. New comers need not pay the community fee. Does that sound good? Maybe move this to the front page of the thread if that sounds good to every one.
Dakanya Posted September 16, 2010 Posted September 16, 2010 hi i am a new player you misspelled tournament (tournement??) i dont care if you misspell BBCS if cost is the main issue everyone is debating here, i think waving the fee for new players is cool by the way i am a new player
Roastbeef Posted September 16, 2010 Posted September 16, 2010 Curses! I wasn't able to go to the NCI in berkely and I will be out of town on Oct 2nd! But I think i'll be able to join you guys for the next NCI on the 16th. Most definitely if it's on SJSU campus again. Venue looks good too, reminds me when I use to play WoW in the art building with the Cadre department at SJSU. I'm sure the everyone will be respectful and keep everything nice since it is on Chun that we won't wreck the joint.
KatanaDash Posted September 16, 2010 Posted September 16, 2010 I fixed spelling mistake. And I will be collecting the money, so... I can verify new players.
Crosell Posted September 16, 2010 Posted September 16, 2010 is SJSU the new location for NCI or are we doing the regional ranbats still?
ViridianSabre Posted September 16, 2010 Posted September 16, 2010 Just registered. Stoked to have a consistent place to play with people. As a new player, this is pretty much exactly what I need in order to get the scene and the game in my blood.
Chun Posted September 16, 2010 Posted September 16, 2010 Katana, give me your number through PM so we can discuss further details with the new information I've gotten. No one's consulted me about capacity estimates, this form setup, or weekend building information! I have the BB tournament set for 6$, with 3$ for each game, and that kind of schematic for the place. This 5+3$ is too much for newcomers, but the new player reg only fits half the bill; not everyone going to NCI will have access to this sort of pricing or registration form, as word of mouth about the campus is a huge factor into attendance. There is talk of snacks and soda concurrently being on sale during this time too, so money separation/talk is essential. I'm concerned about setting it free for newcomers. That would imply that if someone who was new to the scene excelled they're receive money. I like to think the Norcal Scene is strong enough to prevent that from happening, but you never know. A reduced entry for newcomers instead. Again, I'm stressing the importance of having a low fee for people that could be playing competitively but have not heard of ranbats in the area until now, but also allowing each respective scene a shot at the other game communities. If the GG and MB bracket organizers want to switch it up/keep it the same way then I have nothing to say about it. But damn guys, I pulled this venue, contact me! ~Chun
Crosell Posted September 16, 2010 Posted September 16, 2010 Damn got a test that following week, can't go now Hope it goes well, is the date set in stone?
TaoFTW Posted September 16, 2010 Author Posted September 16, 2010 Damn got a test that following week, can't go now Hope it goes well, is the date set in stone? Don't worry, the ranbats will return at the first Saturdays of every month. If you want to try setting up a bi-weekly, then that'll be awesome.
Dacidbro Posted September 16, 2010 Posted September 16, 2010 I'm new too. Like Dakanya, who hasn't been at tournaments, like me. New party wooo
blk_mage Posted September 16, 2010 Posted September 16, 2010 I think setting the price cheaper for new people is a bad idea IMO. Seems hard to verify who's new and such how the money will be split. But that's just me. I'll make sure to request that day off work and can bring my ps3 w/dlc if you want.
Soniti Posted September 16, 2010 Posted September 16, 2010 I really liked the Norcal Install v.2 pricing format, with $5 for first game $3 for second $2 for third. With that system, I would enter all 3 games, whereas with this one I would only enter BB =/.

With that scheme, I'll enter BB for lulz, even though I've never played it before.

TaoFTW Posted September 16, 2010 Author Posted September 16, 2010 I really liked the Norcal Install v.2 pricing format, with $5 for first game $3 for second $2 for third. With that system, I would enter all 3 games, whereas with this one I would only enter BB =/. What's going to happen -in the near future- is that we're going to be giving venue fee discounts for those who pre-register. I personally liked the previous pricing format, but it screwed over the pots at NCI v.2. So right now.... Legit Pot > Trolling I wouldn't be opposed to it but right now, RN school takes priority. Once I graduate ill hopefully be able to more active. RL > Sadlife Be active when you want to be active. The reality is that you won't be active unless you make the time for FGs.
Chun Posted September 17, 2010 Posted September 17, 2010 After weighting out the odds, I'm declaring this a 6$ tournament. Each pot is 3$ entry for more experimenting with other games. So 2$ goes to NCI for entering, and 1$ goes to SJSU CS Club. So effectively entering all 3 is 12$, 2 for 9, etc. Also, 10AM is the official start time, but tournament brackets will initiate at a later time to allow for warm-up casuals. This effectively will remove a need for understanding the grey area of "new". Eateries and candy/soda will be cold and on site that comes from the CS stores. There is a possibility that a classroom will be open the day of which will allow for easier access between tournaments and lower congestion. However the notice will be late, so I will diagram 2 plans when the time comes. I'm starting a tally on setups now; please do me a favor and bold if you're bringing something for sure. Also, Katana I've sent you a PM with my number, please reply back to it. ~Chun
