I just finished playing an actual good Valkenhayn(combo's!!) and yeah it was rape. If you start your zoning out right he's kinda screwed. While he does have mobility with wolf, he cannot block so it is very risky for him to close the gap without getting smacked by something haha. Wolf mode seems only good for close-mid range mix-up and combo extending.

Early on this kinda seems even but who knows it's only been like 2 days

I never ran into it really. I didn't really know what he was capable of up close so I never rushed him down until he was cursed.

On the dive cancel's i was able to get off 1 rep but when i went to super jump j5a it whiffed so i dunno if it's possible on him. Then again it was online so maybe i miss timed it.

Valkenhayn's hitbox seems stupidly skinny, just like Hazama's. I've only used Hakumen against him though, but it still seems like that's the case even with Hakumen's combos. Next time I get the chance, I'll try and use Hazama's curse combos on him and see if they work.

And yeah, Valkenhayn's ground to air is awful, I seriously think his 5A is better than his 2C as an antiair. :yaaay:

Alright, I've faced a good Valkenhayn and yeah, this is pretty easy. Definatly in Arakune's favour. He can't do much about zoning, unlike Hakumen and even though while his normals have great range, they're easy to backdash out of if blocked. Hell, the only reason I took damage is because I had no idea how his mixup worked. :psyduck:

How good would 5C be in this matchup? I know Valk has this really dumb wolf charge that goes full screen and wonder how good it would be against that, or if there is any other reliable counters?

okay i've had a chance to play a really good valk.. this matchup imo is quite bad for arakune.. maybe 6-4.. plays kinda similar to hazama because of range and normals..

valk has soo much anti air it's stupid.. his 2C hits both sides and ducks under stuff slightly.. 5C can hit you on the way up or down from any drive attacks since it's so far.. valks normals are soo good it's a pretty bad struggle if your stuck in corner.. valks JC/JB beats most of arakunes normals and outranges air throw..

there's only the 236A/C attacks that can be punished if you interrupt them with IB throw.. usually comes after 5C... 6c overhead can be interrupted with 5a/beam

valks damage is retarded.. lots of things to avoid.. 5B FC, 6C, 2C, corner throw are all huge damage 4-8k sometimes meterless..

watching out for valks super.. 632146D.. it goes through projectiles like arakunes 2D.. can go through bugs during pressure.. it keeps going even after you block the first hit so be careful.. you can super if you time it right after the first hit.. it does pretty good chip though so keep that in mind

as for combos.. his hitbox is kinda messed.. it's a mix between hakumen and hazama.. you can't 100% curse them from 5C FC afaik.. gotta test.. 2C FC is space specific but it's the same as hakumen's B dive variation.

6a>5d>beam has issues on valk similar to hazama/rachel

be careful with 5C against valk.. his jC comes down at such a sharp angle.. it tends to be too fast for 5C and sometimes crosses over.. valks JC is retarded good.. then can use it in ground pressure as instant overheads into damage.. ie 2a>2a>JC>air super, or JC>jump cancel>JC gimmicks..

-just keep in mind valks JC is near impossible to punish along with alot of valks other normals..

Overall strat: Zone like mad, don't approach much since 2C hits you out of everything in the air and spammable.. be careful with drive attacks as even in mid range he can punish with 5C.. once you have curse be wary of reversal super

once you have curse, All Valk needs to do is wait for the B bug, IB it, then go to town. That's where almost all the retardedness spawns from. (at least what i've seen)

Also, if you want Valkenhayn experience, I'll take a couple friend requests, because I need exp. on the other side of the matchup.

Well, if you get hit by the B bug even in guard + IB, the Arakune will block you with an A bug or a C bug, and begin to pressure you. so i don't really agree...

It's not correct, most pressure is done with a and b bugs, I doubt just the B bug will ever be used.

Matchup isn't that bad. I say it's even or slightly in Ara's favor. Valk has a tough time getting in once Bell bug is out. Bell + 2D shuts down all horizontal movement, even his stupid wolf form lunge shit. I often combo the 2 if the player is dumb enough to lunge at me in wolf form.

Air to Air is great for you but air to ground is a no-no since his 2C is just way too good.

Also, don't backdash so much against him, Valk blows up back dashes for free.

If you lame him out and block the matchup isn't that difficult. :v:
