I know a while back there was an announcement that there was going to be a new guilty gear in the works since ARC bought the guilty gear franchise from Sega. I was just wondering if there was anymore information on it, other than just the announcement?

Nope. A lot of people speculate that we won't hear anything until they finish this DLC poopyness with BB. However if you wanna go to Japan and start HOS fafniring people in they face until they answer "not-cryptic", then I am all for it.

wasting resources for a new gg would definitely not be worth it, if anything a ggac+ re-release would be the best idea anyway.

Drats. I was hoping someone would be like "Oh yeah, it releases tomorrow, and heres a free copy of it for being such a trooper!"

I just hope my favorite 13 year old boy is still in the new GG =P

Well. well. First Elven says he spilled everything in his blog, but apparently he deleted everything by the time most of people got there. Then powerincarnate provides SRK links that are either dead or somehow protected from simple users like myself.

What's with this conspiracy, guys? I can totally understand Mike, it's between him and Pachi, but what's with that SRK thread?

I read the blog post before it was deleted. Forgive me for not having a copy to quote (didn't think it would be wiped from the internet), but the basic gist of it was that Arc was going to be focusing on BlazBlue for the forseeable future. If a new GG was to come, it would be several years down the road, and that Pachi wouldn't be directing it. In addition to that, Arc would be wanting to go the same route that they went with BlazBlue, and remove mechanics such as FRC or Slashback that would be barriers for new players trying to get into the franchise. The game would also go with the 3D look like SSFIV or MvC3 use.

TL;DR

Guilty Gear as we know it is gone and not coming back.

I don't know who this Pachi guy is, but my understanding of what Daisuke wanted the GG series to go towards has very little to do with Pachi's "vision" of where he wants it to go.

Daisuke has already expressed his hatred for Soul Calibur type games, and there's been a few chuckles here and there with how Street Fighter IV has presented itself.

Honestly I don't think Guilty Gear should go the route SSFIV has gone. Overture-styled games are one thing, and if he wanted to do battle simulations that more closely resembled the Crusades, that's fine and dandy. But the fighting games were extremely unique in that number one, they were based on Daisuke's design and vision of where it went and the story and everything that went with it. Number two...any input Daisuke had in latter games wasn't so much second hand as it was that they had a general idea where to go with the games updates and changes and just asked his advice here and there (kinda like how Hideo Kojima does his Metal Gear games).

On top of this, how Guilty Gear ends up is highly dependant on how successfull BlazBlue becomes. A lot of the things they "tried" in Guilty Gear, were "revised" in BlazBlue and ramped up. Not only that, but the visuals, techniques, methodology, that we consider "common" for BlazBlue when it was developed, would be extremely renovative when applied to Guilty Gear. Story-telling methods, visual representation, vocal representation, so many other little things that they learned when developing BlazBlue...even the very concept of revising the in-game system in the form of "Version patches" is a new concept.

I think the real issue is, too many people are thinking about GG from a gamer's standpoint and not a developer's standpoint. Sure, profit margin is one thing, and BB is the current money-maker.

The very concept of Slashbacks, FRCs, etc, are going to seem outdated with time anyway. Instant Blocking and use of Barrier, as well as changing how Rapid Cancels actually work (hell they even work with Jin's projectiles). So many other things are coming to the fore in how a fighting game can be played, including gimmicks. Even complicated curse combinations are being regulated and simplified (imagine applying Arakune's curse combo system to Testament!).

There's more than that that can be said, but the jist is this: what they think of GG now is still that: just a thought. Things change over time, and what you expect and hope for changes just as dramatically.

Daisuke originally planned GG to be a 3D fighting game...but this got turned on its ear. So I'm not going to put much stock in a single employee's opinion, since Arc Sys works as a team anyway.

In the end it's just as he said, there's no point in speculating till the developers get a green light.

As for me, I'm trying to convince Atlus to release Guilty Gear: The Missing Link on PSN Stateside.

Nothing is ever wiped from the internet. Google cache sees to that... Copy/paste follows.

don't you think there was a reason everyone else deleted it? Bozac probably requested it because he wasn't supposed to tell anyone.

and stay bldlk blade

Blade, seriously dude do yourself a favor and stop posting. The fact you don't know who pachi is means you should never ever ever have even opened your mouth.

Red: Guilty Gear 2

Green: The next real Guilty Gear

I don't think anyone will realize how pissed I'll be if Arc Systems simplified Guilty Gear. Not only would I want Guilty Gear to be complex as it usually it is, I want it to be MORE complex. Probably make things a little less strict, but to actually SIMPLIFY the GAME? In my opinion, doing that would not make it Guilty Gear. I want Guilty Gear to be what it is and has been. Guilty Gear.

Not gonna happen. They'll either simplify it some (and if the biggest plan is to remove FRCs and Slashbacks that's not even that bad), or they won't bother making a new one. Keep reppin' that AC, you may just be stuck with it.

I talked to Pachi quite a bit about various things. Hes a really cool guy. Actually, I know A LOT of information about what is going on at Arc System Works right now. I pretty much know what is in store for the future of Guilty Gear and Blazblue. A lot of this stuff is pretty much top secret and I promised Pachi that I wouldnt tell anyone, so unfortunately for all of you reading this, I really cant give you too many details, but I can say a few things that you might find interesting. First of all regarding the rights issue to Guilty Gear and the whole deal with losing the rights to SEGA... basically around the time when they were making GG overture, SEGA owned the rights to all Guilty Gear games from GGX and up. This meant that Arc still owned the rights to all characters in the ORIGINAL GG. Thats why in overture, we dont really see much of the cast. Pachi confirmed that Arc now DOES own the rights to all the GG characters once again at this time. Whether or not they are making another GG game, what kind of game it is, etc, I cant give you specific details about (but I do know). However, Pachi said that Arc still cares about GG and that even though now they are focusing on BB, they havnt abandoned the series. Pachi worked on BB:CS and is responsable for most of the balance changes as well as pretty much creating Hazama (everything except his actual design) and also fever mode and other things. Pachi said that he really loves GG though. There are some things in store for the future of BB that I know now, but I cant say them because I promised him I would keep it a secret. I REALLY want to let the community know whats up, but I also want to maintain a good relationship with Pachi and I made a promise, but just know that there is hope and if you love GG, keep playing it, because its not dead yet! He also stressed that Arc System Works cares very much about the arcade scene. They care very much about the tournament scene, keeping arcades alive, and things like that, so you can pretty much be sure that they wont release any fighting games as console only.

...

After winning SBO, Pachi felt like he had accomplished enough and wanted to focus on making fighting games and helping out the scene. Right now he says his main goal is to make the fighting game scene bigger, get new players involved and see the scene thrive. All the SBO after parties every year are mainly organized by Pachi and he really wants to develop a sense of community in the fighting game scene.

...

Maybe that'll help.
