First of all hello everybody, I am new to the community and I think I have come to the right place. Well, here it is: after repeatedly searching, I can't find out what some things in the command list are supposed to mean.

Here is exactly what I'm puzzled about:

I'm guessing the two white arrows facing each other mean that you have to be close to the enemy in order for the move to take effect. But what about the empty D-Pad thinghie ?

Thanks in advance :D

it can also represent a neutral input, like the one necessary to do jam's parry.

D-Pad means you can use the directional inputs to affect the command, like how you can move Millia's orb thingie.

Thank you very much :D so the white arrows mean you have to be close to the enemy when performing the move ? ( sorry for being ultranoob I just want to get things clear, I'm becoming quite passionate about this game :)) )

But the sillyness goes on with two more small questions:

flwup.jpg

Does the red arrow between K and CATCH mean followup ? If so, while playing with Testament (in GGAC+) how do you perform the CATCH followup ? because as far as I can see the move throws the enemy pretty far away... I tried pressing f+HS right after the move as you would normally catch/throw and enemy (ultranoob again, but hey, that's why I'm here) and it didn't seem to do anything :-S

Thank you for your time :D

EDIT:

it can also represent a neutral input, like the one necessary to do jam's parry.

Wow, there's something else I don't know, I have no idea how that works. Never really played with Jam :-S can you also tell me how you perform that move ?

jamjq.jpg (this one, right ?)

basically, jam can parry any move that hits mid or high. it's similar to a third strike parry in concept, but you have to input the parry motion from neutral (forget the exact number of frames you have to remain neutral), otherwise you just walk forward.

catch means they need to hit you while your doing, testament does a little stance thing and if he gets hit whiile doin git he teleports with a blood attack, if he doesn't get hit nothing happens.

the catch part means that the move only will be succesful if you catch the enemy attack, in other words, the catch part is when testament counter the attacks and poisons the enemy

Oh ! the catch part makes all the sense now :D Great ! thank you all for taking the time to help me out. I still am unsure about the part with jam (maybe there is a video out there ? I'm guessing you have to stand still for a while and then press b f when the enemy tries to hit you ? also not sure what high and and mid refer to, or what "third strike parry" is; Is there a guide I should be reading ?) and the two white arrows in my first post. Guess I'll keep posting here if I run into something else I don't know. Thanks again ! :)

man, you are truly "New Blood" dont you

even when i hate this video so much...

this is what we mean with "third strike parry"

watch what the ken player does agaisnt the chun li player's super at 0:22

as for mid and high attacks

high attacks are the ones that must be blocked standing, Dust attacks, overheads, attacks done in air, etc

mid attacks are the attacks that can be blocked standing or crouching, stun edge, grave digger, badlans, 5P, etc

low attacks are the attacks that must be blocked crouching, 2D for example

if you have more questions youcan ask them on the beginner section

We're talking about 2D fighters. Be aware that "high" and "mid" have different meanings in 3D fighters.

Jam's parry should be done RIGHT BEFORE the opponent hits you. Not WHEN the opponent hits you, but RIGHT BEFORE.

Just a warning, a lot of characters have character-specific nuances to them that the game doesn't tell you about (example: Dizzy can delay her Lightning Spear by holding S). I recommend looking at any guides in the character sections of the forum.
