I was going to ask if we're going to need my PS3. I also realized I have a PS2 collecting dust in the corner, if we want that for Guilty. The only problem there is that I don't own a PS2 stick, and I don't think many other people around here do either. Also, on the day of feel free to ask me if we need cables or something. My house is like 15 minutes from A1, so it's not hard to run home and grab an extra HDMI cable if we're short.

Do you mind bringing all of those things? That would be super awesome since I need extra set-ups just in case, thanks!

I have a really crappy stock tekken 5 stick I can bring, although I kinda took it apart to look into modding it. It still works (as well as it did at least) but the top cover now comes off :P

I have a custom PS2 stick that works on PS2 and PS3 with my converter, and PS2 Pads if anyone needs them.

I'll bring both with me. Are any of the GG players coming out? I'd like to learn GG, but... yeah. Finals preclude practice time. I think there was talk of the GG folks doing training sessions of a sort for BB players wanting to learn GG a while back. Might be a good event for an upcoming NCI?

About how long is this planned on going on until? Will there be time after the tournament for MMs and casuals?

Good idea. I personally would also like to learn GG.

Until 9:30-45ish. It closes at 10, and depending on how many people we have entering, I'm not really sure when we will end. 16 people in a tournament, on average, takes about 2 hours to finish a tournament if everything runs smoothly, so that will give us about 2 1/2 hours to get those casuals/MM there. Also, before the tournament, between 5:30-6:00, there will also be some casuals while setting up.

Also, if anyone wants to record their matches, I'll bring my cam-corder and my tri-pod to record some games and upload it either to my YouTube account, or try to send the files over to IPW or something...

You definitely want to reconsider the schedule. Three hours to complete a single tournament is cutting it real close - especially if you want to get done before closing. It's nice that you want to put GG in the scheme of things, but the reality is that you won't have the opportunity to do that. For e.g: making brackets, organizing setups, seeding people, and kicking people off of casual setups; this all takes more than an hour to prep.

So think about the number of games you are going to run and make estimates for what you need in terms of resources. Think equipment needed to run multiple tournaments (CRTs/LCDs, consoles, copies of respective games, power strips, floorspace, TIME). You should do worst-case scenario time calculations. Take BB for instance. Worst case scenario for running a Double-Elim, 2 out of 3 rounds, best out of 3 for a 32-man bracket can be calculated by multiplying the maximum number of seconds per match and multiplying this across total number of matches necessary to determine a winner. About 44 matches takes place in a 32-man DE bracket, so:

(99sec/round)*(3rounds/set)*(3set/match)*(44matches) = 39204 seconds, or 10.89 hours.

Thus, if you only had one console it will take you almost 11 hours to complete a BB tourney if every match went to the last set and every round was won by a time-out. Notice, however, that if you have two setups you can divide this in half to 6 hours, and even better if you have three setups because now it only takes 4 hours. Three setups is ideal, any more is better. You should also allot 1 hour before each tournament for drawing brackets. Granted, your tournaments shouldn't be taking 4 hours to complete since these are worst case scenarios, but this is a good way to get estimates when you are building your schedule.

Edit: This is how I suggest you structure your schedule.

4:00 - 5:00pm; Station setups

5:00 - 6:00pm; Registration, brackets and seeding.

6:00 - 9:00pm; Tournament

Casuals should only take place when you get through to the final four. Running a designated time -for casuals- before a tournament is opening the floodgates for delays. If you get a turnout of 6-10 people, then I suggest you run a round-robin instead instead of double elim.

But I commend you for trying to get the Sac scene rolling. This is the first time any event took place there since Scott's gathering 3 years ago.

So are brackets gonna be random? Or will there be some seeding?

Mostly likely by area, this way, no one that is coming from Davis will play another Davis player, etc.

Thanks for the tips. I'll be drawing up brackets via computer program so I'll make it run more smoothly, and I'm pretty sure that I have at least 4 set-ups. I'm not sure how many participants are coming, so I'll try to do things as early as possible. Never ran a BB tournament so I don't know what to expect. I Ran 2 SF tournaments there at A-1, and the first time it took about 4 hours to complete a 25-man bracket. The second time took me 2 hours for a 16-man bracket, but this is BB, so again, I do not what to expect.

Anywho, who ever is helping bring a set-up, could you guys PLEASE PM me here or Text/Call me on my number (number provided on front page, first post), so you guys can verify that you guys can bring it. I'll try to get there around 4:30 PM, and if you guys can come 4:30-5:00 tomorrow and help set up, that'll be great, thanks.

*EDIT*

Make sure you guys remember that there will be TCG players there, so just don't make any trouble with them. Also, if there is no parking spaces at the parking lot, PLEASE park across the street, in the Rite Aid parking lot, thanks~!

Is there going to be a mix of consoles, or is it going to be ran on PS3 or 360?

Fairly sure it'll be a mix. Looking through past posts there's at least 1 of each console.

Tofurr :

Please bring both monitor and Xbox 360. I have an extra CRT there so we have a lag-less TV if yours feels laggy. Thanks!

I know this is kind of late, but I'm interested in trying something new. Would it be all right if I brought my stream station, but used the internet from my mobile modem? The location of A-1 is smack dab in the middle of a 4g wireless area, and it should give me 1mb of upload, which is decent enough to get a medium quality stream working. I want to see if I should change internet providers, but that all depends on if 4g is going to be stupid amazing or not.
