FunkyP Posted April 6, 2011 Posted April 6, 2011 (edited) His combos are generally impressive. Seriously, if you're not impressed by the top Dante players in the states Tim what the hell do you want from him? Play another character if you think he's not "impressive" Edited April 6, 2011 by FunkyP

Play another character if you think he's not "impressive" The only matches I've seen with them their Dantes haven't done anything except die immediately. Keep in mind I'm not looking for just videos of training mode combos. I'm looking for match vids with Dante going to work. First decent Dante match vid I've found: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AA8KZLOA-RM Apparently Richard Nguyen counters Mike Ross: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IzqUuUs5Odk Edited April 6, 2011 by Daysoo
BearsAreScary Posted April 6, 2011 Posted April 6, 2011 i thought match videos were just poke -> training mode combos? o_O also I TOLD YOU SO on the arakune not being S tier I've been trying to convince everyone for months that he's not as good as everyone thinks he is, and he got a bunch of speed nerfs in CS2 (wall dash slowed by like 3x?! and backdash slowed a lot really hurt his game), as well as the general curse combos not being as sick in the damage department anymore just make him a fully decent character. He'll still insta-gib you if you don't know the matchup just like he did before, but his game overall has always been one of deception. Now I can safely dread Lambda, Mu, Hazama, Hakumen, and Rachel on my throne of correct-ness. I might need a secondary for this game....
TheGreatReptar Posted April 6, 2011 Author Posted April 6, 2011 (edited) Just pick 3 characters, one of them being Mu for Carl, and roll with them. It seems like the game might actually have a large part of the cast with a mixture of good and bad matchups, so you can actually pick a combination of characters to cover bad matchups. Also, I just found out that nearly all of Tsubaki's ground normals are air unblockable now. The only ones that aren't are 6B(B), 5A, and 2A. I like it. The 236 series isn't anymore, but the 214 series is now which makes more sense. She's gross like me. Edited April 6, 2011 by TheGreatReptar
TheSlyMoogle Posted April 7, 2011 Posted April 7, 2011 Or pick 1 character and just learn your match-ups good and bad.
Daysoo Posted April 7, 2011 Posted April 7, 2011 i thought match videos were just poke -> training mode combos? o_O What about the situations that lead to that initial poke? What are players doing to get into position for that particular poke? Was it a solid setup that is easily recreated? Was it super situational? Did it require an assist or was it just the point character with a good mixup? How are players reacting when they see the opponent trying for certain setups? What are players doing to punish those reactions? I don't have the patience for sitting in training mode all day grinding out tight combos. Most of what I learn is from playing and watching actual matches. When I do use training mode it's usually to figure out how to punish things I've seen. If I don't have anything in mind to punish I might try and improve general execution, but it's typically not my main objective. -- tl;dr: I'm not so interested in doing super flashy training mode combos as I am interested in consistently landing the first poke into something solid and reliable. When I feel I've reached a level where I can do this with moderate success, then I'll worry about improving my execution to do better combos.
FunkyP Posted April 7, 2011 Posted April 7, 2011 (edited) Or pick 1 character and just learn your match-ups good and bad. Or in the case with CS2, pick your main character and have all good matchups :thumbsup Also Tim Dante strives off of his combos. He has pathetic meter build, weak mixups, and his movement is particularly predictable. What he does have that he uses to his advantage are amazing long range pokes and normals, like standing A and B and 2B. Easy hit confirms into guaranteed damage(stinger>bold cancel means he can do all his combos anywhere on the screen) and various tools for diverse gameplay. Oh and the ability to kill most of the cast off a poke. Day one Dante approaches are air dash j.c, teleport into j.c, and poke with A and B, or 2A which has decepetively long range. Everything else is training mode and assist dependent. Also Air Play is very good to force your opponent to block while you have time to call an assist and try for a mixup. I doubt Noel is going to be free of bad matchups. Then again, I personally doubt she's an S-tier character. I think the only character that might not have a bad matchup is going to be Makoto. Daysoo Posted April 7, 2011 Posted April 7, 2011 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LNNUMqv2EJE Think I'm going to make this my Dante BnB. [X] Easy(ish) [X] Ends with more meter than you start with [X] Works midscreen [X] Works in corner [X] Decent damage [X] Can end with level 3 Not sure if you can end with DHC glitch yet... They might recover before you can combo into grapple. Edit: You can end in DHC glitch. Got the combo into grapple the first try after posting this. XD
FunkyP Posted April 7, 2011 Posted April 7, 2011 That combo is so old and shitty, dont waste your time on that one. Learn to bold cancel and get like 20% more damage and meter, and be able to combo from and normal at any part of the screen.

TheSlyMoogle Posted April 7, 2011 Posted April 7, 2011 I don't know too much about Dante but pretty much all the top players who were using him at Final round were comboing into devil trigger mode or whatever and then wailing. I estimate the combo does like 850k and built quite a bit of meter. I don't know the combo, and I can't find it really, but it was what PR Balrog was doing all day.
CrushrDestroyr Posted April 7, 2011 Posted April 7, 2011 If you've got better combos you'd like to share I'm all ears. :V http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jy6n-JHzCDo Acid rain loop. Pretty difficult (especially the loop segment) but builds almost 3 meter and ends up doing around 700k. SHOULD work on everyone, though I think it's possible to do more reps depending on the combo starter/character.

FunkyP Posted April 8, 2011 Posted April 8, 2011 I know Courtney and Jim are here, but just to let you guys know I'm streaming the Battle & Brew MvC3 tournament http://www.justin.tv/funkyp
Kazzmat Posted April 8, 2011 Posted April 8, 2011 So I tried doing a Cthulhu/Imp mod and I've been having problems with it registering as a controller. My PS3 pick sit up as an unknown USB device and my PC doesn't even bring it up in the controller application. I've triple checked all the wires to make sure they are in the correct places and can't figure it out. So I was wondering if maybe one of you could give me a second opinion on what might be the issue tomorrow?
Daysoo Posted April 8, 2011 Posted April 8, 2011 (edited) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CdgwApy5M4g This video is so sexy. <3 Made me remember this video for Dante from a little while ago. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RJvaIoZZiZc Edited April 8, 2011 by Daysoo
Spring_Raid Posted April 8, 2011 Posted April 8, 2011 Saying I know the Makoto matchup would be saying I know a matchup, which I don't know any. I just confirm combos with Litchi and finish combos (sometimes). I think my 3 characters I'm going to play are going to be Tsubaki, Mu, and Rachel now, dropping Litchi completely. Tsubaki because she's gross like me, Mu to counterpick Carl, and Rachel because she's rather fun now. Carl's going to be such a pain in the ass though. It's going to be clap loop all over again -.-;; Ivysaur initially said you could only 0 to death someone if you had full Nirvana gauge, which didn't seem too unreasonable. Having to take down over 40% of Nirvana's health before you can afford to take a hit from Carl is going to be insane to try to deal with. So will you finally change your Avatar to say "I actually Play Tsubaki"? lol, sorry....your the only other person I know in the Southeast that even likes this characters, so I've gotta mess with you on principle :P I'm currently using Tao as my main because I love her mix-up game. How much better does Tsubaki feel in CS2 than CS1? I'm thinking about playing Tao/Tsubaki/Noel in CS2, but I'll experiment with the whole roster a bit first.

I would have played Tsubaki in CS1 if she wasn't the worst character in the game. She could have been around Jin's level of bad, and I would have played her instead. CS2 Tsubaki seems really good. She has really good corner carry now, the damage on her basic BnB is up like 15%, her air throw is really good, and dive whiff combos are awesome. I can't do instant air dash combos on pad to save my life though. I'm going to have to look into the program thingy that let's you play a PSP on your computer screen with computer inputs to get my stick hooked up. I especially like the theory-fighter behind her charging being faster. Now if characters aren't on top of Tsubaki, she can get free charge, making her more of a threat the longer you try to play keep away. Also, with how easy it is to get charge, her setup for landing a full charge 22D is more practicle. Now if only they would give her another super that doesn't suck.

Hey now, I like Tsubaki, I just never saw a reason to play her over Ragna, a character I also like. CS2 could very well change that.
FunkyP Posted April 8, 2011 Posted April 8, 2011 http://www.justin.tv/funkyp/b/283217723 Here's the Dante combo I've been doing, skip to about 18:45 I jump on training mode
TheGreatReptar Posted April 8, 2011 Author Posted April 8, 2011 So, apparently there's fighting game tournaments on campus next Friday for MvC3, SSFIV, and Blazblue at 6pm. I kind of want to show up to advertise our Friday gatherings if there's anyone good.

Nice, how did her air throw change? I haven't seen it used at all in any of the Tsubaki vids I watched. I also noticed her 22D doesn't wallbounce anymore on normal hit? I guess since she can build meter faster, I'll probaby go for 2 bars and do 22D > 236D > 6C > etc instead of 22D > wallbounce > 6C > etc off 1 bar. Now if only she had a flame barrier while she charging like Order Sol (aka that get the f' off me button), That would be great. @ CrushrDestroyr: I don't blame you, Ragna is solid. I actually played nothing but Tsubaki for a few months before I took a break from the game. I was playing Noel at first, but got bold and thought I'd give my favorite character a try. Now I've moved on to Tao as my main; Although, I can't stand Tao's character design/personality/screechy voice, I love the way she plays.

You can follow up with 6CC into whatever. You don't have to use 2 bars for ground combos either. 22C also gets a hard knockdown like 22D does, so you can do 5BB>5CC>22C>236D. You're just a little limited in followups after that if you use 22C because of its proration values. You will need 2 charges if you start with 22D though. 22D still wallbounces in the corner though. You can do 22D>5C>2CC>2A>2CC>2A>2CC>ender in the corner. Does pretty decent damage and has good meter build. You even have enough time to get like half a charge after the 22D if you use 2B rather than 5C. Does less damage then though. Edited April 8, 2011 by TheGreatReptar
