San Diego's thread of meetups every Friday Night at SD Saltmines

So Xie posted on FB that Super NCI is March 17-18. I'm pretty sure I can go. I'll probably be renting a room somewhere. If anybody wants to have me drive them up or share a room, let me know. I'll see if I can work something out.

EDIT: Watermelonz, did you get that midterm moved or no?

I couldn't work anything out, I need take my midterm on Friday. The scheduled time for the people taking the exam on Thursday conflicted with two of my classes. Sorry.

Damn it, looks like those gravure model picture sets will have to wait...... j/k.

Anyway I'm thinking about giving you money to buy a Gundam model for me, but it's a maybe though.

And roll call, I just want to make sure who's going tomorrow night. I'm most likely am going, don't have anything tomorrow other than school.

I'll be there too, probably a little early so I can figure out where it actually is.

I'll be there as always~ Are we at 5 or 7 tonight?

And just let me know when you want your xbox back glod, thanks for letting me borrow it.

Online play isn't too bad here, so feel free to come over if any of you want to just borrow my connection or something.

Just let me know like a week in advance the first time so I can make my place more presentable >w>

You can keep using the xbox as long as you'd like, I barely ever use the thing normally. And I may take you up on your netplay offer sometime, not this weekend or next though.

edit: I'm also a little confused on the time, I was thinking 6:30 for some reason, but if Wallice could post for clarification that'd be great.

Just posting here to let you guys know that I made it back home safe and sound about 20 minutes ago. Frubble is definitely a chill place to have our gatherings. :)

Good shit tonight guys. I'm really happy that the meetup at Frubble worked out so well. Just to make sure you guys know, this is still gonna be a weekly event. So every Friday at 7, head over to Frubble now.

Shtkn, I checked my car and my bags, didn't see any asus monitor base, though I don't think I was ever carrying your stuff when we moved from UCR to Sanoshi's place anyway. I also sent her a message on facebook asking her to check for it and get back to me. So I'll let you know how that turns out.

Glad everyone had fun. I think we leveled up a bit tonight.

EDIT: Also, I made a post in the SD Fight Scene facebook group about our event at Frubble. Might get some of the people who were interested tonight to show up next time. I also liked Shtkn's idea about maybe having a flyer or something that we can post up in the venue that might attract people. If anybody has any artistic talent and wants to make a flyer advertising it, be my guest.

Great event as always~ I'm liking this new venue. Special thanks to Wallice for arranging everything with Frubble!

The roast beef wrap that I had was really quite tasty. Probably too much random stuff in it for you though, Wallice >w>

Notes for glod so you don't forget:

1. Backdash

2. Voltec

3. Confirming into lifter->collider

Sorry for being so noisy orz.

Hopefully with Watermelon done with midterms, we'll have enough people to fill it out the place a bit more. Try to get your friends to come!

Edit: So about that 2 frame link, it takes a lot of concentration to do right now, but it's still within my doable range on pad I think >w</

It'll probably be easier once I get a converter, since my PS3 pad has a lighter stick. It's pretty mentally draining to practice though x_x

Editx2: God, that challenge 15 e_e

So I was going to go to bed after running through Lambda's challenges, since I wasn't quite feeling like bed yet, and....I'm still up orz.

15 uses that link, and even if I hit it the rest of it is hard enough that I still haven't completed it yet... (#`Д´)ノノ┻┻;:'、・゙

I got to the end oncetwice, but I choked and missed my calamity ender. As Kevin would say: Wa-wa-wa.... orz

And apparently the converters that we were talking about (the good ones that don't require you to have a separate xbox controller) are all sold out online. They probably stopped manufacturing them or something.

Thought about my matches last night and I thought it was odd how I didn't use anti-air as much as I would in our previous meetups. Also have to pay attention to my opponent's meter so that I'm extra aware of wakeup shenanigans or random Yukikazes in my holes. Same goes with hitconfirming. :v:

And sorry if I sound out of line or if it looks like I'm making people look bad but I noticed when I played against glod and Wallace, you guys would occasionally fall for the 5C > 3C > combo, which is rare for any Noel player. Remember to just block low most of the time because all she has is her overhead, which is pretty easy to react to once you get used to it. Once you have that in check, you don't press buttons during her blockstrings while at time same time watching out for her grab when she staggers with 5A, 2A, 2B, or 2C, she basically has nothing. Also, if you get caught blocking a blockstring in this sequence "anything > 5C," be prepared to guess as Noel may go for the overhead, command grab, or the riskier 3C. However, you should also take the distance between you and Noel in consideration, if her blockstring or your Barrier block pushes you/her far away, you won't have to worry about the overhead since it obviously won't reach that far, so Noel can either stop there, or go for way more riskier and unorthodox options such as her command grab or 3C.

On the topic of blockstrings, sometime this weekend or next week before the next meetup, I need to familiarize myself more with Jin and Lambda, more so with Lambda, as well as trying to make my blockstrings way less linear.

Oh and some pointers from haki for fighting against Lambda would be nice too, and sorry for almost crushing you hand again. :kitty:

Honestly, I think you're pretty solid. I haven't noticed any major flaws, and you hit-confirm well.

The minor things that I can think of right now are:

1. Defense. You have good pressure and offense, and I feel threatened when you're mid to close range. However, it feels like when I'm on the offensive, I almost always end up getting in on you somehow or other.

2. Perhaps work on maintaining your pressure a little more? I don't seem to get punished out of rolls much by you, so once I get knocked down it's not too hard for me to get away. And if I barrier block your string, you almost always dash in to reset pressure, so I can pretty much just 2B you out of it on reaction into sickle oki.

I also think you respect sickle too much at close ranges. Unless you're knocked down before I set it, if you read that I'm going to sickle you can just jump out of it before it comes out and airdash in for a free combo. Of course, you want to be ready to barrier block as well, because if you start doing it too much I'll switch to spike chaser or just reaction anti-air instead.

And I think any feedback is probably appreciated, as long as it's constructive. If you happened to notice any problems with my play style, please let me know as well~

Defense is ALWAYS a given for me lol. As for pressure, you're right. Did some thinking about my pressure last night and it was VERY linear. My problem was that I kept trying to condition you guys to block low more than it was necessary to and could've gotten away with more stuff. And also I never attempted jump in pressure once, perhaps it's because I'm still miffed by Noel's 5C not being JCable on block since CT and I'm still not used to JCing 5B, but that's just one of the things on my list to work on.

As for stuff you need to improve on? Well you certainly didn't fall for Noel's command grab as much last night, but maybe it's because I didn't use it as much. But anyway, I remember you saying that the start up animation where she flips makes you think it's an overhead, well, remember what I said on my previous post where you just need to block low most of the time and consider the risks between Noel's 6B overhead, and her command grab. The way I play is that I use 6B a few times in succession to train you guys to block high, and then the next time I have you in pressure, I go for the command grab. However, at the end of the day, I will use 6B more than the grab, because despite it's -4 frame disadvantage on block, it's still a safer option than whiffing her command grab for a free CH combo.

And for Lambda, when you use that attack where she summons upward swords from the ground after pressure, I'm assuming I can punish that?

Posted (edited)

I actually already block low against Noel on default, and block high on reaction. The problem I still have is that the hop always looks like a jump attack >_<

I guess I just need to see it more...

Spike chaser is heavily plus in my favor on block, so if you want to punish you'll have to hit me before it comes out. If you hesitate, don't decide to go for it afterwards because it lingers and has a large hit box (unless you're sure you managed to catch me charging it, in which case there's plenty of frames so no need to worry).

Edit: Yay, hit the link into combo in an online ranked match X3

Wasn't expecting it to actually connect...

So the reception on the SD Fight Scene FB group has been less "we are interested in playing Blazblue or Guilty Gear," and more "we wanna show up on Fridays and bring our own shit." I guess we'll see whats up.

Posted

i'm confused... why wouldn't they just go to boxarena stuff on tuesdays (or wednesdays or whenever it is) if they were interested in capcom fighters... what games are they interested in?

Posted

So I guess that means we'll have the same meet up day with Box Arena again? And I don't really mind if none of them are interested in playing BB/GG/etc. just as long as nobody is being a dick when a non Capcom game is being played in the same room. If boundaries are respected, then I think it'll be cool, of course, that's not going to stop me from being curious and crossing the line (pun blatently intended) and checking how their games are going, SFxT looks like a pretty game. :)

Maybe you've stumbled across the secret SD population of Senko no Ronde players or something >w>
