Hi guys, popping in for a suggestion on brackets (because I help/run with most tourneys in TO). Not enforcing anything, take it as a general tournament knowledge

1. Seeding - The reason to seed people is not "to help out the better players", nor is it to "create hype later on in the tournament". Its to make the tournament results actually reflect the current standing of the community. If you have top players fight and eliminate each other early, then the results would not reflect the strengths of individual players at all.

2. Regions - Please separate regions. we don't travel to play each other and eliminate each other lol.

3. Pools - Theres no reason to run pools with a small amount of people. "pools allows people to play each other more" and stuff along that line is kinda pointless. This is a tournament, stop wasting time. IMO if you don't have over at least 64 entrants, theres no reason to run pools.

It is perfectly reasonable imo to not seed people not in your area unless its like a world known thing (ie, jwong better get seeded).

Looking forward to meeting everybody on saturday ^_^

I think it'll definitely be an interesting tournament. Who wants to start some TO/MTL rivalry? :mad:

I tried low tier in SF4. Sad story I might tell you guys someday over some drinks.

@_@ I'm sad i'm gonna miss playing Toronto's best. I guess there's T-12:(

Ottawa ran pools to allow for more play (and for other reasons as well) and we knew that the entrants for BB would mainly just play BB. Seeding wasn't the biggest impetus for pools, even though I personally think it did a good job of that.

Of course, I wasn't there for the latest one and I know that it hit the fan real hard when it came down to Marvel.

I wouldn't run pools for MAT either and I especially don't have a chance now.

@Nini: Mmm I meant more like, chances I win are kinda low but never 0. Each tournament I prepare for, I feel like I got better and this time I have a real chance at placing high. Winning? not yet, I know my tourney nerves can't handle that*, but I think I'm improving at a good pace and I will start taking tournaments soon.

*(heck just getting close to beating omni the first time we played ever, but dropping the game winning gold burst combo and then proceded to mash my way into a loss, okay he picked jin, but still, that was yesterday and just netplay, but I really felt the effect of the nerves that one game)

@Nolan: you know, "I don't like the way I have to play my old main in this revision, so I might as well try tier whoring for a game I enjoy playing anyways" is not necessarily bad. You can also see it as "I'm helping the community gain this matchup exp because no one else is tier-whoring, because nini isn't back yet".

@Zeero: Noted, regional seeding for sure. I was thinking about using T11's results to seed you guys coming over, to have an idea of who is better at tournaments than who, but if you have a recommendation, feel free to PM me. If by TO/MTL rivalry, you mean going to TO more often to play you guys, just waiting on my uncle to finish renovations and I can bring people with me there whenever (well, almost). :arg:

In other news, I'm about to change my title.

Hey now that's just being defeatist. You could try to get good enough to the point where you see the tourney fee as an investment where you're breaking even at worst(3rd place in a tournament with low attendance) and at best getting enough money to really get hammered if you actually win.

That's exactly it, don't give up, I know from my experiences that having a giving up mentality will not help at all.

... I, for one, really might tierwhore CS2, or at least switch to Valk for a while.

I don't mind being the only one repping cold justice for cs2. It'll be good to have a valk main in the community anyways like Pedro said.

Thanks zeero, don't quite get it cus I'm slow. But the parts I do understand I'll keep them noted. Even though airmaster manages the tournaments.

The highest tiers my characters have gone is b. All my characters are consistently low tier who don't even have auto-pilot/flow-charts. Wanna know why, it's because justice is low-tier.

Count me in if I can get a freaking job -__-

You know, the thing between your user account name and avatar. Or at least I think it's called like that?

Nah, I actually really like how he plays, it's just that it's going to take a couple months before I can be as comfortable with him as with his CS self. So in the meantime I think I'll work on my Valk and Jin. Haku's new combo pathways feel really bizarre atm, and I need to re-learn his options.

I also agree with Zeero. Let's seed and separate by region (perhaps even going so far as to select individual brackets).

Tio has an option that allows you to seed by region. Thats how I did it at Nemesis with the TO crew. We can do it again that if you guys want.

Where do you work again and how long does it take for you to get there?

I'm working for MAB Media at the moment (if you want more details, go on mabmedia.ca). I'm basically a motherfucking vendor that gets a designated sector and I go from doors to doors to sell promotions (I've got to admit that they're extremely good promotions though...) But thing is, I only get paid commission. And we don't do this in Montreal, because it would be a waste of time, people are way too scared of fraud and shit. So we go to other cities, like I'm going to Ste-Hyacinthe every day 'til the end of this week.

I'm not gonna lie, lots of them guys are extremely skilled and are ballin' like serious mofos. I'm progressively getting the hang of it.

So as for the pay, from what I recall, you get paid 100% of your 5 first sales on the first week ($75/gift cards) and then, after a week, you go down to $15 of commission per card. If you manage to sell 5 in 1 day three days in a row, you're promoted to trainer. So you get $20/cards and can actually recruit people to make your own team. With that, you'll get $5 off of each of their sales (you can see the 15 to 20 jump there, that's the reason.) But the 'underdog' is not completely disadvantaged, you get $2 off of your upperheads's sales.

So yeah, there are regular goals to get up to and it's actually quite challenging. 3 days of 5 sales = trainer. Then, as a trainer, if you make a complete team (I don't remember how many people), you become a team leader. Becoming a team leader ups you to $23/cards from what I recall. And then, I don't really remember the requirements for the rest. Director is $25 and Vice President is $27. But the thing with upper heads is that they gain money through their team also.

It's half shit, half awesome I guess. You can ball like crazy or get fucked over like hell. But to get paid, you gotta work at least 10 days (5 days training + 5 days serious business). It's too unstable for me, so I really don't want to gamble with all this. Unless I get real good in a week, I'm quitting.

As for people, they're motherfucking awesome. The only one that sucks is my trainer. Guy's really nice but he's annoying and quite retarded to be frank. He's the only one that has problems with anybody in the team. As for the team, they're like family (no lie). People chill in the office and all that shit before and after going out, vending.

The benefits? It GREATLY improves your socials skills and if you get up to setting up a team and shit, you're going to learn how to do business and manage a team/employees EXTREMELY well. They're great people, no lie.

I'm hesitant on this because it's more like a free school of business more than an actual job, not sure if you follow. But yeah, anyway, it's extremely time consuming. You get to the office at 12:00 PM, chill with people, do a sort of dynamic meeting where everybody screams and shit, then normally get to your destination by 2 PM and start vending 'til 4 PM. 4 to 5 PM is your break. Afterward you go on until 8:30 PM, now newly turned 9 PM since the sun stays out really long.

Anyway, tl;;dr - It's more like a school of business and a family. It's cool but not stable nor does it have any sort of security. It requires skills and takes lots of physical energy since you walk for basically 8 hours.

GGs today guys, had fun. Lol gonna get blown up in GG and arcana, haven't been playing enough lately, at least I should do well in BB.

@Kirbster/Brice/Rhannmah/Kaeru/??? : please fill in this spreadsheet for MAT. https://spreadsheets.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0Ap4GlIscp9X8dGp4OW1Yc3lxSU5iQnJ3Z3RDRFNXVHc&authkey=CIXN0cQK&hl=en_US#gid=0 I think we could get up to 8 setups total, and so far we only have 4 PS3s. Post up guys.

@Brice/Steb: I need to reserve the hotel tomorrow, do you guys think I could reserve for 3 and them call them to add a 4th if ever? Going to reserve for 3 nights, thursday, friday and saturday, btw. Don't forget to work on your passports if you don't have them please.

@Blade: thanks for the headset! I'll confirm if I can pick you up or not during the day.

@Nini: we got some recording done today, probably won't upload it until after MAT tough.

@Ken: woah definitely not the job for me.

edit:@Kaeru/Rhannmah: If you guys are there Sunday, can I count on at least one of you to help with the TV transportation by returning the CRTs we'll be borrowing from the HQ after the event is over. I'll be in charge of going to get them with Airmaster Saturday morning, unless either of you wants to do it.

Wow ok finished moving the cement blocks into the backyard with my dad, tired as fuck now.

Is there anyway I can help with returning the t.v without having a car. Maybe catch a car ride with kaeru or rhannmah on the way back to HQ?

GGs everyone.

@Blade

Dash overhead to purple grab is just so overpowered.

@Pedro

The tournament is on Saturday/Sunday (June 25 - 26). We would have to reserve for Fri/Sat/Sun.

The rooms for 3 people says 4 guests max, so maybe. The problem is the price goes up by the number of guests, and I don't know if they can change that.

I remember you saying it the tournament was on Friday/Saturday. I hope this doesn't become a problem, lol.

Pedro, i will help you bring the TVs back to HQ after the event. Im waiting to fill out the spreadsheet because i might be able to bring both sticks or just one depending on if my friend comes with me or not. I will fill it up very soon, but you can count on my help to bring stuff back afterwards.

No no it's really fine, my bad. We could probably just reserve the hotel for Friday and Saturday night only, thought you said you worked on Monday. Makes things a lot easier, we could probably, sleep, leave Friday afternoon and have some free time. Maybe the guys in the area are having a meetup of some sort that Friday night.

@Nini: lol I haven't played enough SC to find that trailer hype, just looks like SC4 with ultras.

@Kaeru: Thank you very much!

BTW, i checked on the MATVIII website and couldnt find any details about scheduling. I know it was mentioned somewhere in this thread but i can't quite find it anymore. Is there somewhere we can go to double check what events are happening when? maybe on our Twitter page? like when is BB tourny, GG tourny and the various casuals etc.. Thanks !

I sent cranky a PM to ask him what they were doing on their end. The plan for ours is kinda flexible. We're gonna be doing BB, GG, AH, MTL vs TO, in that order. My guess is BB will take 2-3 hours, GG will take <2 hours, AH will take <1 hour. We'll start once everyone is there and at least slightly warmed up, which means between some time between 1 PM and 6 PM, but I really hope we'll start close to 2 PM. It pretty much depends on what time the guys from Toronto will get here.
