Seiki Posted October 28, 2012 Posted October 28, 2012 Lol man our tournies are just going to be ky vs sol. Papstr and Chandler play Sol. Milln, kain, Patrick, maybe Phil, and maybe myself play Order Sol. Tad, maybe Volpe, maybe Doctamario, and Tad's friend play Ky.
Alphakami Posted October 28, 2012 Posted October 28, 2012 Yeah, I wasn't down-playing theory fighter at all, but I think this game requires quite a bit of play, more than BB or Persona did, to be effective in the heat of battle. Since I've been net-playing in GG, I've ran into the same names that I did in BB and Persona... very good players who usually beat me... and they can't even get close on the whole in GG yet. I know these players are solid, but they seem to be missing the in-between game, and defence. The only players who are getting wins are the vets. It's also that GG is the only game I know well enough to possibly help other players get better, and I'd like to do that if i can.

I keep pulling her out every now and then and the matches I lost turn into wins. Mostly because of frame traps and that dumb force break.

Milln, kain, Patrick, maybe Phil, and maybe myself play Order Sol. Tad, maybe Volpe, maybe Doctamario, and Tad's friend play Ky. I just play Ky for lolz because he's really intuitive. As soon as I picked him up, I just felt I -knew- how he was supposed to play. First time I've ever been able to apply oki instinctively. For srs bsns I'm learning Testament & Faust, because fuck it, Milln's right. Now I feel like starting Gear up. Who should I start with? Edited October 28, 2012 by Volpe-de-Glacio

Milln, kain, Patrick, maybe Phil, and maybe myself play Order Sol. Tad, maybe Volpe, maybe Doctamario, and Tad's friend play Ky. Hahaha! I'llk probably dust off those other characters I mentioned. As fun as Ky is, I'd really like to get a little deeper into the game than just him. He seems to have a lot of leeway in terms of how he's played though, which can be nice. Just add a hat. Somebody Photoshop a hat to that pic. xD

Urichinan Posted October 29, 2012 Posted October 29, 2012 TOO MUCH SOL! NOT ENOUGH I-NO, VENOM AND ANJI! There can never be too many of anyone in this game, real talk
Volpe-de-Glacio Posted October 29, 2012 Posted October 29, 2012 So I was regretting not getting a ride to this party Friday, only to find out today that 3 people ended up getting shot. I love my town.
Milln Posted October 29, 2012 Author Posted October 29, 2012 Persona is awesome. So much fun. Gear is awesome. Also fun. I enjoy both of these games. Fuggin... Why are there gatherings that I have to go to. I'm supposed to be playing RPGs!

DoctaMario Posted October 29, 2012 Posted October 29, 2012 Is it me or are all the Reply buttons broken today? >_< @Volpe: Where do you live?? Are you in Nashville or is there some town in TN that's really called "Starville?" O_o

FATHER VEGEKEN Posted October 29, 2012 Posted October 29, 2012 (edited) I seriously hope they patch the online play. An ol' wily vet like me expects so much more from the game I love and the online lag is a great injustice. Speaking of ol school players i got to play against Genius(lagged to shit) and MarlinPie(decent connect). I plan on getting this on Xbox(70%chance), but the xbox pad makes me want to punch a dog in the face while it's wearing a satellite. Regardless im still salty to losin to MarlinPie in two very winnable matches. I gotta get back in shape more mentally than anything. Losing matches to wake up supers in fighting game age is sad. On a +r note ill be usin either Dizzy, Faust, Kliff, or Slayer. Depends on who meets my dmg off hit confirms the best. *I AM THE SERAPHIC DEMON VEGEKEN and I approve this message* Edit: Oh, I disagree with Tad. Watch vids. Matter of fact watch shitload of vids. Not just of your character but every character in the game. If you think you can succeed in this game just by perfecting your game(i laugh at this) expect some hurt feelings and soul searching. Alphakami Posted October 29, 2012 Posted October 29, 2012 Knowledge of that sort is useless without the ability to apply it. Fucking useless. "I am Grey Bush, and I approve this message." <3

His theme makes it sound like a blaxploitation fight is about to break out. I'll be on XBL later tonight if anyone wants to play. First actual matches in Gear since it launched, so you'll be working charity duty. XBL: DiscoKong Edited October 29, 2012 by Boom Cube
Volpe-de-Glacio Posted October 29, 2012 Posted October 29, 2012 Clarksville. If I remember correctly, we held some sort of record for how many residents had chlamydia. At one point, 75% or so of our high schoolers had it.

"I am Grey Bush, and I approve this message." <3 "I am KLG-TRJN Optic Focus and I approve this message." Also the problem with watching videos is that if you still have a primal understanding of the game your interpretation of what you see in videos will be as well and are more prone to interpreting things incorrectly. Atleast when you play if you press a button and you get hit you will know what you did is exactly wrong. Kind of hard to tell when watching Videos. In conclusion, videos are beneficial but only if you have had a good amount of experience playing the game.

Talking to my bro about GMX, hear he ran into a guy who looks just like PSY and danced/elevator partied with him, dude's name is Phillip. I died laughing man, if you remember a tall redhead in a kilt, that's my brother Jason, Phil.
Mr.Minionman Posted October 29, 2012 Posted October 29, 2012 (edited) .... "I am not a presidential candidate and I approve this message" I ran into this problem when I was trying to learn King of Fighters. Due to the lack of good netplay and lack of opponents/ match opportunities (regulars were/are less than enthused to play KoF with me), I ended up spending an extensive amount of time looking up match videos and sitting around in training mode. I built up an almost encyclopedic knowledge of characters and strategy, but hardly ever played. So when I got my brother (Tret) to fight me, who has hardly touched the game's training mode, I began losing a good deal. I realized that the combo experience I have in the game was developed in a rhythm (and not on-call), and I kept trying complicated maneuvers that I knew were possible and appropriate, but would constantly get beaten out by simple responses (sweep out of pressure, dps, etc). In short, despite spending so much time researching the game, my brother ended up improving at a much faster pace because I had spent more time learning minuet details within the game rather then learning to apply the skills I learned. In hindsight, I could've been much clearer minded when fighting him and spent more time feeling it out. Course, I think I've come a long way since then, and there are few people I need to get in touch with so I can find out just how much I've actually improved in the game... EDIT: i.e, trying to learn to run before I can walk. Edited October 29, 2012 by Mr.Minionman
Klein Posted October 29, 2012 Posted October 29, 2012 I'm with playing over watching videos. It's most evident in games like say, League of Legends where the whole community watches pro play and streams, so they do what the pros do without knowing why, and get bodied for it.

I died laughing man, if you remember a tall redhead in a kilt, that's my brother Jason, Phil. HAHA I remember him! We had a fucking blast, man. I can definitely see the resemblance now XD Also, here's my bi monthly post. I watch a SHIT LOAD of Gear matches, and here's why: Yes I do copy and paste my play from JP vids and in a way I shouldn't do that, but that's not what I'm here to debate about. Definitely watch videos b/c it'll give you an insight as to what each character is potential of. I use, and still do, watch a shit load of videos as a way to make up for my lack of match up experience. Turns out it was the best thing I've ever done for myself w/ having nothing but a 3 - 5 Gear players here in TN. I'm not saying just use videos as your tool to train. Still use training mode though. If you see a situation where your character just flat out loses, recreate that in training mode and figure ways out of it. Learn Eddie and his very bear basic block strings. Set that up on dummy replay and figure it out, like when you can move, dead angle, parry if you play Jam, IB and 1F jump outta there, etc...

This drives me fucking insane. So Many AD carries that rush a bloodthirster because some pro did it without realizing why. Whenever I see a Tristana with a bloodthirster I cry. SHE SHOULDN'T RUSH ONE. ARGH
