Julia, nice, I've been playing her since the game dropped. She's really fun in SFxT.

I've been looking into mainly Julia, Vega, Lili, Poison, Xiaoyu and Ibuki. I feel the most comfortable with Julia, Lili and Ibuki, but I would really like to run Julia/Vega and Lili/Xiaoyu teams. Though knowing myself, I'll probably end up running Ibuki/Lili and just sticking with that single team.

There are no 7-3 match-ups in Persona, lol. Just saying.

Mitsuru has no tools to open people up solidly without meter. You can't just throw Thanatos out at will in the match-up either. Your best bet is to have a strong defensive game, learn when to use Liz's normals, then capitalize for ridiculous damage off of everything. Liz hits harder than Mitsuru off of mostly everything too. Also, Mitsuru has no options for Liz's legit oki setups. So learning all of what she can and can't do in the corner might be in your best interest.

That's all I have to say on the matter. I'm not arguing these points, i'm just letting you know.

To my knowledge, yes we are. The fact of the matter is, every character in persona has tools to allow players to over-compensate for their weaknesses in a match-up. Using 7-3 as an option-select for when you're about to lose won't help you grow as a player. Simple as that.

Mitsuru's 5A and jA outrange and outspeed all of Liz's normals. Liz can't commit to anything after 5C because EX Coup Droit literally beats everything. Liz's 2B clashes with Mitsuru's jB so she can't stop jump-in's. Elizabeth can do nothing to stop Mitsuru's pressure except for Mind Charge > Coffin which doesn't exactly happen every match. Mitsuru's toolset is so well equipped for shutting down Liz that my mind is completely blown that anyone could think it's better than 7-3. Like. wat.

Chie's 5A is god tier against labrys. Even if she guesses wrong on her oki, she still gets to spam dash 5A pressure and Labrys can literally do nothing to stop it. Elizabeth has the same problem but her DP is a bit harder to react to and she has good tools to keep Chie out. Labrys is just screwed. I really do think that matchup is super ass. (Liz vs Mitsuru)

That's not to say it's unwinnable, since Liz still shells out tons of damage.

I've beaten every Liz player I've played with my Mitsuru fairly convincingly, and I don't think my mits is anything special. I just play abusively and stay solid on defense.

I'm not going to pitch a number, but I think it's definitely bad enough that I would tell any serious Liz player to counterpick that matchup.

we talked a bit about tiers during our road trip and I'm starting to believe that Labrys is the worst character in the game because her defense is just too bad and her offense is too simple to make up for it. I used to think Liz was terrible, but now I think she's easily competitive once I have a counterpick for Mitsuru ROFL.

@uri: It seems to me that Julia's damage is not that great, but her ability to open opponents up is pretty solid. High execution, stacks of options. Do you think that is accurate?

I'm not so sure Liz belongs in the bottom tier anymore. The problem with Kanji and Labrys is that on top of being bad characters in the first place, they're also simple characters so they couldn't develop any new strats. Players have to rely on pure fundamentals. Liz has poor tools but there's been some ridiculous discoveries with her over time that make her significantly more reliable and tricky. I'm hoping that I'm good enough to show it at Winter Brawl.

I'll be honest here. I wonder if Liz-mitsuru is as good as 3:7. Since alpha 2 I think of matchup numbers as being the % of wins expected. Do the best Liz players really win 30% of their games against Mitsuru?

I honestly don't think anyone is lower than A tier in this game. Kanji, lol you should check out videos of Yamashita Kanji, Kanji never looked so strong. Anyway, Damosu once said Liz Mitsuru was 6-4 and yeah there is tech for most of the things you said except for the 5A being so strong in the match up. Ex Coup Droit is not an auto win button, and there's an option select that lets you stop dealing with jB 2B clashes. 5B and sweep can deal with jA depending on the range it's done at also. There's a lot of shit Liz can do to just score a random hit, take 30-50% off depending on the starting hit/meter usage, then setplay Mitsuru without her being able to do anything about it. Yes, it's hard. In fact, it's extremely obnoxious sometimes. Thing is the 7-3s in this game don't look anything like 7-3s in any other game. SF 7-3s are much worse than anything I've seen in this game.
