Discuss the Tsubaki vs Carl matchup here.

Things to watch out for:

Being pincered by Carl and his doll.

The nirvana projectile.

The doll rushdown super.

Corner traps.

Unblockable reset.

Things you can use:

Dead angles to get out of pincer-based pressure.

Dives to get out of corner situations (unless he reads it and claps you in the air)

If you actually play against a carl good enough to nail the 3D jC unblockable every time *cough ivysaur cough*

Tsubaki can escape it with 623A RC or with 623A > j236D > j214D.

okay, not a lot of discussion here since I'd imagine no one knows the match-up, so I'll give some general advice.

Treat Carl like you would treat any other character that completely outpokes you and approach with caution. Behind nirvana is exactly where he wants to be because it allows him to shut down pretty much any approach you have, knock you down and start his pressure. Force him to come to you and risk separating from nirvana. Your 5B and 2C will stuff anything he tries, and if either CH then you can hitconfirm and start your own pressure. If he's in a position where he can force you to approach then do so cautiously and focus on chipping away at Nirvana's life with safe moves. Her regeneration is a LOT slower and dismantling her makes Carl a lot easier to handle. It also has the benefit of keeping Carl from Touch-of-Deathing you with his unblockable infinite.

Also remember to burst and counter assault VERY WISELY. Carl is one of the best characters for stopping them because he can hold back while nirvana hits you. Only use it if Carl has to commit to a move during a combo or block string (except 3C because it goes under counter assaults).

Very good advice. Anything you can do to beat down Nirvana is really going to be key in the matchup, I think.

A thought for Tsubaki's offense especially taking her combos into the air, it's a situational as j.236A will not hit Carl if he's at the same level/below Tsubaki. If you get into this case then j.236C would be a better option to use then combo into j.214C and charge. I have yet to confirm if j.236D also hits like j.236C, so if anyone has that kind of info, that would be appreciated to confirm.

As for hitting Nirvana, sticking to Tsubaki's BnB combo sounds good but I would suggest not using the 236A->214A-22A as that leaves risk to open yourself to getting hit by Carl. Speaking of Carl, if this situation happens and Carl jumps overhead to try and cross you up, will it be safe to use 22C anti-air?

I believe you're referring to 2C©? I don't think it's safe to do that at all, it'll just get carl a CH.

I'm not sure if you'll be able to get it down on reaction though, and even that's difficult.

I think Ivysaur said something about Carl being able to actually bait and punish both of those options, however if he does the setup to punish it and you don't DP, you get out as well or something to that effect.

Basically, 623A>j236D>j214D isn't free if the Carl knows the matchup really well.
