Yohosie Posted March 20, 2013 Posted March 20, 2013 (edited) This is so embarrassingly wrong. There are RPG Maker games on steam, ever heard of To The Moon? Yes, that was made in RPG Maker. Stop being so simple-minded, the tools are only as powerful as the effort the creator is willing to put into them. RPG Maker is a beginner's tool, essentially a toy. To The Moon is the exception, not the rule, and I'm fairly sure that it was delayed for 6 months to allow it to play it on Steam due to limitations of the engine, which is INSANE. Don't use RPG Maker or Fight Maker for a real game, use it to learn and maybe self-produce and sell something that you know will not be a high-quality product to make some cash while learning. The release of RPG MAker VX Ace on Steam I believe allows for easier Steam integration, which would change the above issue but it's still an awful engine. I don't give a fuck about ponies and won't play this game, but ignoring all other issues having to hack a game to make a sub-par training mode and releasing a game in 2013 that isn't wide aspect ratio are massive problems. They need this engine to make an actual game. Edited March 20, 2013 by Yohosie
Celerity Posted March 20, 2013 Posted March 20, 2013 you guuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuys http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-rDehNN0ZS0A/UUjc3EmJXKI/AAAAAAAABEc/a0kixDF5DyY/s1600/previewsilhouette_all.png a new update and here is a teaser Is...is that...a llama??
Aureliano Posted March 20, 2013 Posted March 20, 2013 They look like gen 5 pokemons. Not necessarily a bad thing, as the designs look pretty sleek and more detailed than those in MLP. Plus there's room for quite a bit of style. It looks like bronies haven't taken Lab Zero's hook, and donations havent picked up, still going at the same tranquil rate. I don't think they'll get the license for free.
Hecatom Posted March 20, 2013 Posted March 20, 2013 Is...is that...a llama?? A Llama (possibly the pinkie pie substitute), a Cow (Apple Jack substitute) and a Deer? (Rarity substitute)

It would be pretty hilarious if the llama was a zoning character. Llama style yo.
E3vE3 WAZ HEA Posted March 20, 2013 Posted March 20, 2013 just because it wont have MLP characters anymore doesn't mean it wont be fun, i was interested in it because of the way it looked.......and fluttershy, but i like the way it looks so far. and L.F is helping them with it too so it shouldn't be bad.
White Man Posted March 21, 2013 Posted March 21, 2013 They look like gen 5 pokemons. Ha, I had the exact same thought. Based on the silhouettes alone, these new designs seem even more misplaced in a fighting game than ponies. Oh well, I'll give it a chance.
Fenrir Werwolf Posted March 21, 2013 Posted March 21, 2013 just because it wont have MLP characters anymore doesn't mean it wont be fun, i was interested in it because of the way it looked.......and fluttershy, but i like the way it looks so far. and L.F is helping them with it too so it shouldn't be bad. On the opposite, having a REAL engine to work with, along with original design and such will make the game REALLY interesting and full of possibilities, instead of just a cute fighting game with ponies But the mlp fandom is too stupid to undersand that, and it's not donating for the game do not have ponies anymore...EVEN if the chara design is made by Lauren Faust MEH
Aureliano Posted March 21, 2013 Posted March 21, 2013 Or maybe the mlp fandom is interested in mlp material, not new fighting games IP.
Digital Watches Posted March 21, 2013 Posted March 21, 2013 Still haven't heard back from them on twitter. Then again, it's twitter, so that's to be expected.
Fenrir Werwolf Posted March 22, 2013 Posted March 22, 2013 Or maybe the mlp fandom is interested in mlp material, not new fighting games IP. Probably, but I expected more interest, having Lauren Faust in it But you are right. A fandom is a fandom, overall
Daverost Posted March 22, 2013 Posted March 22, 2013 Yes that is the reason people where playing ST x TK day one and streaming it in big tournaments, because they tought the system was good, nothing to do with brand recognition. Yeah, and remember how quickly they got tired of it? All of the complaints that came pouring in?
InWithTheAshes Posted March 22, 2013 Posted March 22, 2013 It still happened, and it's still in Evo this year. People seemed to be complaining more about MLP being included/ Guilty and others not being so than that.
Aureliano Posted March 22, 2013 Posted March 22, 2013 Yeah, and remember how quickly they got tired of it? All of the complaints that came pouring in? Yeah I also remember how people coulnd't stop bitching about SF4 while still playing it. ST x TK was at evo that year purely thanks to its publisher's status while most sources were either criticizing the design direction and economic model of the game, or doing damage control "its not that bad guys". Yet people never really stopped playing it, and when the 2013 patched rolled around they could finally stand up and yell "eyh guys our game doesnt such as much anymore". Exactly like SF4. If you think games that aren't capcom are given even a quarter of this amount of attention/devotion, you are blind. In most hobbies most people don't judge games based on their individual merits, herd mentality just flocks to the biggest name around.
InWithTheAshes Posted March 22, 2013 Posted March 22, 2013 (edited) It's less herd mentality and more the fact that there's far more advertising, and, combined with that, the fact that some people simply don't bother to find/ try other, lesser known games. But aside from that yes, pretty much. Edit: Holy shit. "Herd" mentality. How did I miss that. Edited March 24, 2013 by InWithTheAshes

People are just that dumb.
Digital Watches Posted March 24, 2013 Posted March 24, 2013 I actually saw people on destructoid or joystiq or some news website saying that Lab Zero offering their engine to this dev team is extortion. People are just that dumb. Well, it isn't so much extortion as uh... exploitation? You know, pandering to a fanbase, which there's nothing particularly unethical about. Unless they're like, hardcore FOSS people. Which would be hilarious.
SolarMisae Posted March 24, 2013 Posted March 24, 2013 I know about it cause of the MLP, staying for potentially awesome LF character designs.
E3vE3 WAZ HEA Posted March 25, 2013 Posted March 25, 2013 well, MLP FiM is not longer in production so we got two options here. Change this threads name to what ever they are going to call the new fighter, or close this thread and make a new one for there new fighter (i go with the first one since rycycaling is always good )
InWithTheAshes Posted April 8, 2013 Posted April 8, 2013 Hey, Watches, about contacting them for the engine: There's actually a guy from the team apparently checking and posting upon the SRK board. He isn't actually doing the development (I think he's an artist or some - thing.), but he probably can inform those who do, and, as far as legitimacy is concerned, they have been known to do things such as this within the past (Within this forum, for instance.) and I think that he posted some exclusives or some - thing (I'm not completely sure though, I'm not going back to SRK to check, that place is scary. ;_; )
Digital Watches Posted April 12, 2013 Posted April 12, 2013 Well, it sounds like SG got the funding, so it might be kind of a moot point. They're still obviously welcome to use the engine I'm writing, it being open-source and all, but it's probably not in as polished a state at the moment, so if they're happy with the SG engine I encourage them to use whatever works best for them.
InWithTheAshes Posted July 18, 2013 Posted July 18, 2013 (edited) Mane6 Just posted a new development blog. It mainly (manely?) showcases technical work, development progress, all of the usual things, but there are some (potentially incomplete) showings of one of the newly - designed Characters. There's also a link towards Gamespot's "Fighting Symposium" article, which one of their developers (Omari) was interviewed for. He actually has some pretty cool things to say, so go check that out if you want. Also, Mori was another interviewee, so if you're also interested in hearing him there's that to look at as well. E3vE3 WAZ HEA Posted March 5, 2014 Posted March 5, 2014 This is pretty much dead here but for anyone who is still interested, this now exists thanks to some people working on it undergorund who wasn't main 6 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F6k7ki1cCBU
