A fighting game based on Nura: Rise of the Yokai Clan made by ARC System Works!? It's like we've entered a parallel dimension where inexplicably awesome things happen on a daily basis!

More screenshots at the official product page

Some of the gameplay details leaked(?) from this page on Rakuten:

  • Assemble teams from from over 100 different Yokai. There seems to be two different classifications: Aide and Underling
  • Being pitched as a Team vs Team game, where using your Aides and Underlings well is vitally important
  • Max 4 players, offline or online
  • When you defeat an online opponent you get one of their yokai(!)

More official info is forthcoming...

I wonder how the fights pan out. It looks like there aren't health bars, so you might be fighting over the bar in the middle.

Regardless, I want this.

PS. Maining Hagoromo Gitsune if she's available. All you niggas can main someone else.

Soooooo is this Konami or ASW? Because the link doesn't seem to have anything about ASW that I can find.

maybe konami's publishing it, but arc is developing it, like sengoku basara x? dont care really, i just want to play as kurotabou WHO I SEE ON DAT CHAR SELECT SCREEN

edit: im guessing its only till hagoromo kitsune arc, which i assume the anime s2 is covering, i only really read the manga

ASW developed Hard Corp: Uprising for Konami so I can believe it. Never heard of the manga this is based on but I'm liking the style based on the screenshot

That first screenshot on the Konami page looks like it's actually of the pre-fight animation... The Japanese in the middle means "VS"

The fact that it's 360 only for now makes me die a little inside. I've never watched the anime (or read the manga), but the artstyle seems pretty cool, and I love me some Japanese aesthetics. Too bad that all I will be able to do is watch it on Youtube.

Ah, good grief. Well then, now I can be as hype about it as I want. Perhaps I should check out the manga in the meantime.

i never heard of the source material, but this looks awesome, what are the chances of this being released at this side of the world

I recall seeing an episode of this on Animax-Asia.

Game looks interesting. The 4 players plus the bar in the middle remind me of some old DBZ game for the PSX/SS. Hoping we get to see some gameplay soon.

yeah its the same thing that i thought when i saw the bar, it gives me the vibe of DBZ Legends, i loved that game (i still have it for my ps1)

Viz Media has the license for the manga and anime in North America so there's a small chance. Chances would greatly improve if they manage to get a network like Adult Swim to air the anime.

Some more screenshots have found their way to the interwebs, courtesy of some Japanese web store I've never heard of. Check out that link for more gameplay screenshots featuring Rikuo, Hagoromo-Gitsune, Tsurararararararara and others.

Particularly hype is that it looks like the full VS screen is finally revealed:

That's a whole lot of yokai... ( ゜3゜)

VS screen? Nah, surely that's a character select screen, right?

Judging by the structure of the screen, it seems that you may also use the playable characters as Assists or something, and those "card" Youkais also work as Assists, but are not playable. Still curious about how it will turn out.

Really seems like a versus screen to me. The number of cards showing your assists matches up with the number diamonds around the "1" and "2" on the gameplay screen, so it could just be showing the main character + assists each player chose before the match starts.

I know, I know, I was just kidding. Though it does make me wonder how the actual character select screen looks.

Sorry, I suck with sarcasm. orz

  • When you defeat an online opponent you get one of their yokai(!)

Does this mean that you at least get default youkai so that you always at least have a minimum team? And an option to turn it off would be nice, I imagine a bunch of people (like me :v:) not wanting to play since that'd risk losing some of their hard-earned favorites.

i was guessing more along the lines of "everyone is unlockable, but you can earn new youkai by winning against them in online play"

and earning i would assume would be just being able to use them, not stealing them
