KayEff Posted September 13, 2011 Author Posted September 13, 2011 well you see, text is pretty much detrimental to the video because we need it to show how much this character sucks either that or the community tutorial video guidelines kind of call for it i'm not sure how much more black stroking i can put on the text; i'm worried it'll come to a point where it's mostly just black text itself and i'm pretty sure that black text is also unreadable i also wonder how spirit juice will think of it in terms of how i'm approaching the video, more specifically if the text effects are alright or not
ADS627 Posted September 13, 2011 Posted September 13, 2011 Too much text... Pause button. Can you darken the background action? if you darken that just a bit the text maybe easier to read.
Final Ultima Posted September 13, 2011 Posted September 13, 2011 I don't think it's so much the amount of text (I agree that it's important to put all those details down) so much as the distribution of that text. The beginning part is fine, but when you get to strengths and weaknesses, I think you should spread the bullet points out at the cost of spending extra time. That way, you get some extra space to utilise some visual aids for each set of points. So instead of showing a long list overlayed over one combo, show fewer bullet points but include footage relevant to the points that are easier to depict, then move on to another set of points. For example, you could repurpose that footage of Ragna getting Inferno Divider'd out of a 6B attempt to reinforce the statements regarding the strength of his DP or the crumminess of his overheads.

Tong Posted September 13, 2011 Posted September 13, 2011 i thought about that, and then i stopped because i'm too lazy to try and setup all of that if only i could grab replays from other people Well, we can always use Kaqn getting bodied! Or other vids, but the watermark would get in the way... Tricky. Seems like the only way to obtain clean and hi-res footage is either download PSN replays or capture an offline match. You can grab replays if the guys are willing to upload stuff one by one on their Ranked profiles. Or, lets aim for cheesiness.
KayEff Posted September 13, 2011 Author Posted September 13, 2011 using japanese matches...that's actually not a bad idea i can probably use non-sakamoto ragnas to represent weaknesses :v
LuminAbyss Posted September 13, 2011 Posted September 13, 2011 Considering I'm not that good of a player myself, I'll get some of my replays or offline videos up.
Gramas Posted September 13, 2011 Posted September 13, 2011 When I read about the first 3 points of his strength I instantly tought about a footsies situation and you hit with 5b..then 5c 2D rapid standard corner combo with tsuiga ender Why not?
KayEff Posted September 15, 2011 Author Posted September 15, 2011 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=czWsWKayilE i know about the black bars, i'm trying to fix it, but i'd like your guys' criticism again
MashThat5A Posted September 15, 2011 Posted September 15, 2011 (edited) Looking good. You forgot 6C being jump cancelable on second hit though. Edited September 15, 2011 by MashThat5A
-Seo Posted September 15, 2011 Posted September 15, 2011 Looking really good so far man. Might want to add to the 2B is unsafe when gatling part, that it's unsafe when gatling into C/D normals. I'm pretty sure 2B>5B is safe.
advancedNoob Posted September 15, 2011 Posted September 15, 2011 Ragnas normals are shit. CH 5C leads to decent damage from max range. BK isn't that situational. Overall, good stuff, waiting for final product!
MashThat5A Posted September 15, 2011 Posted September 15, 2011 Also, the black bars are caused by you saving a widescreen video in 4:3 format. This causes the black bars on the bottom. Then, YouTube adds the black bars on the side because it needs to fill its 16:9 boxes. Just make sure you're saving the video in 16:9.
Reamatsu Posted September 15, 2011 Posted September 15, 2011 It was alright, basically a stronger lay-out on Ragna in general. It's like, watch this video if you're thinking of joining the Ragna team or something along the lines of that, like a warning. Detailed explanation no doubt. I want to see what you have in mind for part II. We'll get something in like two weeks or so?
KayEff Posted September 25, 2011 Author Posted September 25, 2011 so i managed to finish my video, but rendering takes a shit load of time so expect both parts of the video to be up tomorrow though the ending's a little lacking, call it an act of laziness i guess
ADS627 Posted September 25, 2011 Posted September 25, 2011 (edited) I think the input bar should be somewhere else. either on the bottom or top. top is alright because youre already listing damage on the bottom. I really like the tips section. The ending is great. Prefer it to just busting out the biggest combo that can be done. Edited September 25, 2011 by ADS627
Mumm-Ra Posted September 25, 2011 Posted September 25, 2011 Just wanted to point out that you forgot to say that using an AH requires a burst icon. PS. You should put the most damaging combo in there, people love that shit. I know I do.
Airk Posted September 25, 2011 Posted September 25, 2011 Just watched these, and have a couple of comments, generally pretty nitpicky. I don't know if any of this is the sort of thing you'd even care enough to fix, but just comments for next time, if there is one. #1) I found the negativity at the beginning to be a little bit heavy; If someone has decided to pick up Ragna, they're going to feel pretty discouraged. The wording in the "offense" section seems less disparaging, somehow. #2) Using 'sans' to mean 'except' in the "Not Over Yet" section is incorrect. Sans means "without". #3) I know the frame data for Blood Kain says "600 frames/522 after recovery" but it also says the move only has 20 total frames, so I'm wondering if that's actually correct. (If it is, carry on and ignore me.) #4) You spend kinda a long time on the "table of contents" for part 2 - if you're going to linger on the list of different combo types like this, you might want to put in the times in the video that each section starts at so people can skip ahead if they want. Otherwise, you probably don't need to linger on this screen for a full 20 seconds, especially since that's much longer than you spend on the NEXT screen, which actually provides information. #5) I liked the note in the 2nd midscreen combo that it's the "best midscreen option for oki" - but I wish some of the other combos had had notes. Stuff like "best option for no-meter corner carry off 5B" or "best midscreen heat gain" or "basic combo off air throw" or something. I find that when I watch large strings of combos, they kinda all blur together in my brain after a while unless there's some expalanation of what they're for. #6) In the "neutral" section, you say "you may end up getting less than the short end of the stick" - this is...funny english. "The short end of the stick" already means "the bad side of the deal" so saying "less than" that, comes out weird and redundant. #7) I kinda wish there had been a section on 'pressure' for what to do once you've got the opponent blocking, but haven't actually landed a hit yet. Other than all that fiddly whining though, thought it was a very good video, and quite informative. Good work!
KayEff Posted September 25, 2011 Author Posted September 25, 2011 keep in mind that the purpose of the video is to be simple and to the point, so that players alike can learn on the same level not saying that anyone's comments are stupid, but i felt that it would be nice to point that out
