Khaoz77 Posted November 5, 2011 Posted November 5, 2011 So I main Rachel and have been playing BlazBlue for a month now I got most of her BnB's down and can put up a good fight against good players, but I have a little problem. Execution-wise, I can do some of the more challenging combos, but I feel like my executional skills won't let me go past a certain point, like for example: When I try to combo out of the 5C hits, I drop them either because I'm not fast enough, or I always slip up on the transition to the next button. I would really appreciate it if someone could give me some tips when it comes to surpassing your execution wall.
Kurushii Posted November 5, 2011 Posted November 5, 2011 Are you a stick or pad player? If stick how long have you been using arcade sticks? The main thing I do is turn on input display in training mode and practice the combos in different situations (differrent characters, spacing, specific move ch's, exc.). Practice makes perfect. Also try to practice your combos repeatedly against a moving target, turn training dummy to cpu and at max difficulty (or jump into Score Attack).
Khaoz77 Posted November 5, 2011 Author Posted November 5, 2011 I use a PS3 pad, but I know from experience it's not the problem. I will try to use diffrent characters in different situations like you said. Thanks for the feedback
Sahgren Posted November 7, 2011 Posted November 7, 2011 Execution is something that'll build itself up if you just keep working at it. Keep working your way through progressively harder combos and don't give up even if you can't complete them. You'll get used to the inputs and timing the more you try.
OrionXElite Posted November 7, 2011 Posted November 7, 2011 If you're having issues getting past certain parts of combos, I'd suggest isolating that part of the combo and working only that part till you get motions down for what you need at that specific part, then try integrating it back into your full combos. So I dunno how easy that is for Rachel as her combos are weird as shit, but if you can figure out a way to isolate the trouble spots and focus on them, it makes it a lot easier to get them down consistently since you can just repeat the focal point over and over instead of having to do the whole combo and then drop it once and then have to do it again and get frustrated.
Zeron_X25 Posted November 7, 2011 Posted November 7, 2011 Whatever Orion and Sahgren said. My execution was terrible when I first started playing BB but it got a whole lot better when I consistently went to training mode on my PSP. I had no concept of links and what helped me through that was practicing Slayer combos in Guilty Gear AC for a long time. Almost 9 months later and I went from struggling to do 2k combos to doing 10k combos with ease. It just comes with time and practice in training mode.

Hell difficulty will block almost everything and read input tend to makes you develop bad habit even if you're an experienced player. Advice of doing it on real fight is spot on thought, but i suggest just set it to normal difficulty, they will move around a bit and still block and takes hit randomly.

This one I actually started to do. Rachel's combos are very weird, but once you get them down, they are a vital part of her game. I see that my execution is improving each day I play, but sometimes it feels like when you got something down, there is something else that is twice as hard to do. I have played Fighters all my life, and I can honestly say the difficulty is why I stay and continue playing them each day. It would also help if someone with a PS3 could help me online with matchups since playing the CPU gets really boring and tedious and isn't a good way to practice good habits in terms of strategy.
Fugu Posted November 8, 2011 Posted November 8, 2011 I'll play you online, if that's what you're looking for. However, I wouldn't recommend it for execution. It's less efficient and, depending on how much you like winning, you may just end up avoiding the difficult combo entirely out of fear of dropping the combo. On top of many of the suggestions in this thread (I do most of the things mentioned in this thread except play with the CPU) I would suggest putting the computer on random block and hitconfirming off of whatever you get. This worked wonders for me.
Khaoz77 Posted November 8, 2011 Author Posted November 8, 2011 Cool Fugu, that would help out a lot. I would consider myself pretty mild-tempered about losing, as long as I'm learning something.
Star-Demon Posted November 8, 2011 Posted November 8, 2011 Ram head first into the best players you can find until they all get sick of you. You will own newbs and be unacceptable to anyone good. owning newbs is enough.
Linear04 Posted November 8, 2011 Posted November 8, 2011 try out challenge mode lol. challenge mode combos arent the most optimal but some of them require good execution and can help improve timing and stuff like that
cookiehours Posted November 11, 2011 Posted November 11, 2011 Don't EVER use AI in training mode. You will develop terrible habits. Have the AI randomly block and work on your mixups/combos that way. It helps me, especially when I'm finally changing my main to Mu and still learning her.
Khaoz77 Posted November 12, 2011 Author Posted November 12, 2011 Hmm, I just might do that. I have always been skeptical about it, but I will give it a try XD
