Linear04 Posted February 8, 2012 Posted February 8, 2012 u niggas are funny dont you know the formula for calculating psr is f(x) where x is whatever the fuck netplay wants it to be
Darkside937 Posted February 8, 2012 Posted February 8, 2012 @Sans: wider player experience range/being able to train between matches. Plus, people tend to play differently in ranked; even if it's just meaningless points, I find people play more "seriously" as there's something on the line. @Linear: Truth. That being said, I like PSR as it's decently accurate once someone has been playing long enough for it to assess them. It really reminds me of the Trueskill system in other 360 games. I wonder if the formulas are similar? I hope CSE's formula doesn't turn it into the "look who has more time to play" ranking system seemingly every other fighter has (aside from DOA4, which IMO nailed it).
XDest Posted February 8, 2012 Posted February 8, 2012 (edited) But nobody took that seriously either anyways. EDIT: You know what, I think I'll play some DOA. It'll be hilarious to see how I play after 4 years. Oh man I was right. It was hilarious. Everybody is just doing unsafe and delayed strings all day. Edited February 8, 2012 by XDest
Darkside937 Posted February 8, 2012 Posted February 8, 2012 (edited) Nah. If that were the case, Pisces would easily have the most PSR. Compare that to CvS2 on Xbox, where rank was literally determined by total number of wins. You could have 30,000 losses, but with 20,000 wins you'd still be #1. With that system, you could just keep playing because no matter how bad you sucked, you would eventually get a win to inch you closer to ranking up. With PSR, you have to beat people who the system deems "more skilled" than you unless you want to grind on lower PSR players for a LONG time. This is usually (but not always) true if both players have been playing long enough for their PSR assessment to be accurate. Not only that, but the fact that you can lose PSR at all makes the system much more accurate. PSR isn't perfect, but it's leaps and bounds better than previous systems. But I don't take it too seriously anyways, it's all in fun just as this discussion is. Edited February 8, 2012 by Darkside937
AchedSphinx Posted February 8, 2012 Posted February 8, 2012 I think it might be a variation of the Elo rating system, however the PSR values may have hidden numbers behind them so you're always gaining or losing points behind the three-digit int figures.
Sneakman Posted February 8, 2012 Posted February 8, 2012 Anyone want to play a couple of CT/CS2 rounds for fun?

StayFree( ' 3') Posted February 9, 2012 Posted February 9, 2012 I think the formula changes once you hit 200 PSR. I got there without too much trouble when CS1 first came out but have hovered there ever since. If I fall below 200 PSR it's easy to get those points back, but it seems exponentially harder to gain them after 200. As long as you play other players at or above your PSR level you're not going to hit any barriers. I'm already at 856 PSR. My E-PENIS is soo big!!!
Sneakman Posted February 9, 2012 Posted February 9, 2012 TURN, you think you can spare a few seconds to play CT, just a little while, wouldn't want you to get rusty in Extend?

advancedNoob Posted February 9, 2012 Posted February 9, 2012 GGs to Cry2M3 today, fun Rachel vs. my random subs. Fun stuff, it will take me a shit ton of time to get good with her... I was getting frustrated vs your lambda, 'cause I'm trying to practice hit-confirms and valid combos, which is not really happening vs zoner type characters, lol. Good thing you switched GG to Cry2M3 on that one game we played lol GG.
Arcade Fire87 Posted February 9, 2012 Posted February 9, 2012 Man, I am crazy rusty. I don't even really remember combos anymore. There's no point in relearning things since ECS is about to come out. Just trying to shake off rust Man, though, I'm trying to throw out every sort of mixup I can think of and I just can't land anything! It doesn't help my time away from this game's made my defense worse than ever It'll be fun to get back into the game for real when the new game hits consoles :D
Overheat Posted February 9, 2012 Posted February 9, 2012 I'd say more than ever, this transition isn't that big of a deal for Lambda/Nu. You can start now, and try and get a feeling for Lambda, or you can start later, and implement some small changes that really don't matter too much. If all else fails for mix-up, just stick with Lambda's classic mix-up. It's a decent substitute in all situations.
