It would seem you just recently got this game. I would suggest picking a main and learning all their weaknesses and strengths. What to dos and what not to dos. There are plenty of character specialists here so don't be afraid to ask for help. When you were playing relius, it seemed you weren't familiar with combo paths, and did really unsafe moves.

Well, I've been playing for a long while but I've just recently started to try and actually learn the game though, so yeah I'm pretty bad lol. I don't think I'm going to main Relius. At least, not at this point. Seems too advanced for me. I'm probably gonna go with Makoto or Haku since they seem a lot more fun and less demanding.

GGs, Shelled (all three of them ), our connection definitely wasn't 3-bar tier, and that's the second huge spike I've had with someone, which makes me believe it's my end, so I wanna try to work that out for now.

Fundamentally, Ragna is a good start imo. But as far as maining someone more fun and less demanding, yes, characters like Makoto or Hakumen are good.

Actually more importantly, the challenge modes are fantastic for teaching you execution. Then you can go from there and learn other combos based upon what you've learned from the Challenges. Relius isn't too hard, it's just you gotta keep an eye on Ignis' meter, that's all. If you're worried about meter management, then yeah, Makoto and Hakumen are a good start.

I'd give you some good pointers to start off from, but I'm only efficient in Ragna.

Be careful with Makoto...If you like the character then she is a perfect choice, but her combos are surprisingly tough, especially when you are playing online. You will also be getting spaced out by the entire cast because her stubby little arms (although they are sexy) will have a difficult time reaching your opponents.

I would argue that Makoto is a demanding character to win with because you are basically start every match under the control of your opponent and she doesn't really excel in any facet of the game.

*sigh*...I go online and I can't even move for the entire fight. I train for hours upon hours and then I get bodied completely when I try to fight actual people. It's so discouraging. Feels like I'm not making any progress. And while I'm aware that this is the usual normal process for getting into a new FG, this is one of the cases where it's especially frustrating because I literally cannot even get 1 hit in most of the time unless I get lucky.

Makoto lacks range, almost completely. But I'm used to it and I find it fun because I play characters like Cammy and Valentine. However I really have no idea how to truly utilize her, and the combos I've been practicing with her are actually pretty hard compared to what I'm used to.
