Star Ocean 4 is one giant mistake, that should have never been made. Finally, I'm not the first person who hates SO4. almost every other star ocean loving person I've met says its the best one, screw that I would rant about it but then I could fill pages and pages with reasons why I hate SO4 in short: story is bleh, battle system is a load of crap and the main character......lets just say I'd have Fayt from SO3 who is one of the blandest characters in an RPG ever over Edge, no contest lol

I need to find these people and end them. I couldn't even finish SO4 because I could not stomach Edge's whining past the halfway point of the game.

(brofist) was seriously thinking of breaking the disc once that whole section with emo Edge started did you get to the point where they tell us that Reimi and Edge have powers? ....and that they both don't make sense and suck?

(brofists back) Nah traded it in after Faize left the party. But yeah during the whole part on Roak after alternate Earth went kablooey, I was yelling "Quit kissing his ass, and punch him in the face! Slap him at least!" It completely confounds me that not one person did the "Slap him to back to his senses trope."

I know what you mean, usually at least someone slaps the main character out of being crazy or just being plain annoying somehow I was expecting Baccuhas to "engage cyborg slap" and then floor him lol and yeah if you were like me and were one of the unlucky souls who actually finished the game, Edge's power...is to "inspire people" ....yup, this Big super power that the game was building up to was basicly the power to give instant pep talks...lame, excuse me for being petty but I'll take giant face laser from SO3 anyday lol

Darret_Wallace Posted July 28, 2012 Posted July 28, 2012 star ocean 3 is amazing, my 3rd favorite ever game, i liked fayt as well, even though his only lines are "but" and "the up3". SO4 was meh, got to the end but never finished it.

I'm surprised nobody has mentioned the BS Missing Procedure and who the real "villain" turned out to be but I guess that would require people to have actually finished the game. SO3 though. Man. I could play that game over and over.
Fistmaster049 Posted July 28, 2012 Posted July 28, 2012 SO3 was my favourite in the whole series, fairly bland main character and all one of my favourite RPGs of all time too SO1 = ok SO2 = Good though the PSP version sucked SO3 = Yay! :D lol SO4 = bleh, besides better graphics its inferior in almost every way really the series took a much shorter version of the FF approach while granted at least SO4 is better than FF13 and FF13-2 combined

They left the whole second planet unfinished and just kind of dropped a final boss + dungeon on you out of nowhere. Even the remake didn't really fix this. SO2 was good but raping enemies in the corner with Eternal Sphere gets old after the first time. If they make a SO5 hopefully they improve upon the battle system of 3 and actually take the time to write out a well thought out story. Oh and not make magic-users suck for no reason.

Wishful thinking, I think they intended for SO4 for be the last one ....but if they do make SO5 like you said I'd get on launch day and say screw the price
-Seo Posted July 28, 2012 Posted July 28, 2012 Graphically, SO4 wasn't all that impressive imo. Character models were pretty horrible and they looked liked lifeless dolls. The animations weren't that great either. Everything else looked alright at a distance, but up close... ugh. but I guess that would require people to have actually finished the game. I payed £50 for the LE of the game, so you better believe I beat it. Erased it from my memory immediately afterwards though.

Same for 1 and 3 - both amazing. Now... SO4... SO4 has a lot of flaws, however if you try to look beyond these it actually is a fun game. Currently on my Chaos playthrough and it is hard as hell cuz' Lymle is bad My biggest problem with SO4, believe it or not, is WTF IS WRONG WITH WELCH: WAAAAHHH! Anyone play the secret Multiplayer thing in SO3? I loved playing against my cousins or friends and boding them with OP Sophita (Impossible to get out of Thunder Flare spam unless you played Cliff which was like her only bad match-up) - If only the 2player thing had netplay... I do see what you mean, but then again back when I first played SO4 I hadn't played the previous games besides SO3 so I assumed the character of Welch changed everytime but nope, SO4 broke the chain of blonde and quirky Welchs and replaced it with an annoying purple hair one who would never shut the hell up lol And hell yes, the movesets in multiplayer seemed pretty balanced to,o loved mucking about with it, probably would have been better if you customise the movesets but then again there are a lot of abusable moves...Cough cough Side Kick

I'd buy it, go trolling as Sophia using thunder flare stunlock or Fayt and spam Dimension door lol .....yeah maybe a little balancing is in order
