Dont_Explain Posted March 28, 2012 Posted March 28, 2012 (edited) Gli you wanna play some? Also shoutouts to me for helping someone unsure of buying BB, and when they come out, GGAC (PSN/XBL version) and P4A. Annie-may all day!! Only reason I ask is cause I want to get more comfortable with DP-ing the shit out of Rachels. Edited March 28, 2012 by Dont_Explain
gli Posted March 28, 2012 Posted March 28, 2012 Sure. I actually just got finished with my university work. I'll make a room then. 1v1 is all I want recently. Play until you are too tired to think and then push yourself to make good decisions in that state.

Dont_Explain Posted March 28, 2012 Posted March 28, 2012 GGs Gli. I think my connection was like "I'll save you from being bodied every 15 seconds and make it where it's only every 20 seconds."
gli Posted March 28, 2012 Posted March 28, 2012 (edited) @Toan: Yeah it was playable. GGs Dont_Explain. I can actually assess what kinds of problems you are having since I just went to two extremes of Ragna playstyles (SKD vs. yours). The difference between your Ragna and SKD's Ragna is that you are overly defensive whereas SKD only defends if he knows for sure he has lost momentum. The moments you choose to block sometimes are actually moments where you should be pressing the opponent and applying pressure to open them up. Finding a stable playstyle involves knowing when to weave in and out of offense and defense whilst minimizing losses that you may incur. (I'm having this exact problem against SKD's Ragna). You seldom did ID on wake-up. You have to prove to me that it's actually a threat (you are willing to do it) within a high probability. Otherwise I'm free to do meaty 5B and continue my onslaught of BS j.A IOH (which you ate numerous times). This also brings my other point. You don't take enough risks. Your pressure is weak. To me it looked like you tried to hit confirm a combo from a certain starter and then just autopiloted the rest of the combo as the blockstring. Actively think about what you want to do against your opponent. Go hi? Go low? Get some throws in there as well. I'm free to hold downback all day and just focus purely on looking for overheads. If you mix in throws into your pressure my attention gets divided and my defensive game becomes more difficult to uphold. Not only will I have to guess hi or low, I also have to guess if you are going to throw or not (thus, this opens up the opportunity for TRMs). These are the main points I can give to you from the set we just played. It's up to you to apply some of what I give you here. If you think your defensive game is something you can make work then by all means find the way. I will just point out that SKD beat me 20 games vs. the 4 games that I won and he played really aggressively. (There are other variables at work but that's beside the point). I really don't know much about Ragna. I can only point out what kinds of things he does that defeat me personally. Edited March 28, 2012 by glirandly
Dont_Explain Posted March 28, 2012 Posted March 28, 2012 Most of the time you had George on top of me, so I figured you were just gonna wait for George to start up so there was no point in DP-ing when you were gonna block it. I think it got to the point I just imagined George near me at all times and forgot that I could ID lol. Most of the time I wasnt sure if you were gonna backdash on wakeup and since I wasn't really hitting you much i wanted to make sure you didnt get away (and failed at it). I don't know if there is some OS for it, but i was just doing 1 2A and trying to see if you gonna backdash and if not just go from there. Alot of times when I did what looked like my BnB it was cause I didnt want to just end with 2D so i tried to whiff the 2C on purpose and then do more stuff. I would be more aggressive if I knew where to press buttons. I find it easier to react to mistakes, but Rachel just doesn't let you do that.
A.X.I.S. Posted March 28, 2012 Posted March 28, 2012 You wanna beat Rachel's backdash? Meaty 5B. Ragna's 5B has 8 fucking active frames. Your only excuse to not using it is to bait cat chair. Want another way to catch backdash? Deadspike. Even more active frames than 5B and leads to greater damage. Last I seen you play Don't explain you played way too passively. Passive for Ragna is ok but you are so passive that someone who is just more proactive can just stomp on you. Don't think about pressure strings. Know what you want and do it. Go to practice mode and practice random strings. Do it until your hands bleed. Trust me man you have to do it.
Dont_Explain Posted March 28, 2012 Posted March 28, 2012 I used to do that a lot in training mode AXIS, but it felt like I was just facerolling the controller. I know Ragna isnt a technical fighter in any aspect, but doing random stuff creates more holes in his blockstrings than he needs.
toanenadiz Posted March 28, 2012 Posted March 28, 2012 How do you guys not get bored of training mode? I haven't been able to do training mode in a long time.
Demon Wind Bomb Posted March 28, 2012 Posted March 28, 2012 How do you guys not get bored of training mode? I haven't been able to do training mode in a long time. I can only do it when I'm trying out new stuff.
A.X.I.S. Posted March 28, 2012 Posted March 28, 2012 How do you guys not get bored of training mode? I haven't been able to do training mode in a long time. I main Tager I live in training mode. @ Don't explain: Your job is to be consistent. If you feel you are face rolling then the controller then you certainly aren't taking your time with it. Think about why you are doing such in such in a block string. Why are you ending it there. What you can do after etc etc. I do this for every character I pick up to sub. It never fails me.
Skye Posted March 29, 2012 Posted March 29, 2012 How do you guys not get bored of training mode? I haven't been able to do training mode in a long time. Training isn't supposed to be fun.

It is a ridiculously useful move, i have no idea why Ragnas only cornerspam it.
BatousaiJ Posted March 29, 2012 Posted March 29, 2012 I always like to spend some time in training mode before I start playing people if I've got some time. I practice combos that I see myself dropping from time to time(tight links) and I screw around with hitconfirming off scenarios that pop up often. Then I'll just do stuff and see if I can make new combos up for fun. Making up combos, pressure strings and resets is almost as fun for me as it is playing other people. I'm that way in all the fighting games though.
