JohnnyboySP Posted June 30, 2012 Posted June 30, 2012 First off thank you for taking the time to come in and look at this. I'm currently in the midst of switching from the 360 to the PS3 as the console that I purchase fighting games for, but I have a Street Fighter IV Madcatz TE stick for my 360. I'll be purchasing Persona 4: Arena and any future installments of BlazBlue on the PS3 (I have Extend on the Vita but might get the console version at some point), and possibly that Street Fighter 25th Anniversary collection later this year, and maybe some other stuff. For no other reason than that's what system all of my friends that will be buying these games will be using. Obviously going from stick back to a pad kind of sucks, though the PS3 controller is tolerable until I poses the means to use a stick on the system. (I'm rubbish at fighters but I have aspirations) Basically I'm wondering if it's better to get a converter for my 360 TE stick or if it's better to just shell out for a new PS3 stick? Pricing and functionality are my two major concerns though I'm okay with paying more for a new stick if it means not having any issues that a converter might cause.
mAc Chaos Posted June 30, 2012 Posted June 30, 2012 You can have someone mod the stick so it works on both. Although you have to be careful who you let look at your stick. My brother tried that with his 360 stick at EVO once and the stick got so mangled that somehow it turned into PS3 only even though all we have is an XBOX. But otherwise it'll let you use it for both.
JohnnyboySP Posted June 30, 2012 Author Posted June 30, 2012 Thanks for the quick response. How would one go about finding somebody to do that? Or is it easy enough to do on my own? I'd be willing to try that if I don't think it seems intimidating. Knowing myself though I probably won't want to do that.
Nemesis Posted June 30, 2012 Posted June 30, 2012 Our resident stick expert would be Mr. Mortified you can leave him a msg or something too
mr.mortified Posted June 30, 2012 Posted June 30, 2012 Oh where do you live? I can refer you to someone local
Circuitous Posted June 30, 2012 Posted June 30, 2012 Adding a Kitty board to a TE is really easy and will only run you $50 or so, a little more if you have a professional do it. Definitely cheaper than a new stick.
JohnnyboySP Posted July 1, 2012 Author Posted July 1, 2012 If there's a guide with pictures and stuff I'd be willing to give it a shot.
Airk Posted July 1, 2012 Posted July 1, 2012 Adding a Kitty board to a TE is really easy and will only run you $50 or so, a little more if you have a professional do it. Definitely cheaper than a new stick. this. If you can operate a screwdriver, you can install a kitty board. Seriously. Here's the post where Toodles talks about installing it and answers questions. There's a link to the install guide, which has nice pictures. I did this in an afternoon with a friend (a friend is helpful, because a couple of tasks benefit from having three hands) and it was super easy. Also, the guy who designed it is really nice and answers questions on the SRK forums. Hard to argue with, really.
JohnnyboySP Posted July 1, 2012 Author Posted July 1, 2012 Thanks a ton guys!! I'll take a look at this and see how feasible it is.
mr.mortified Posted July 1, 2012 Posted July 1, 2012 its definitely easy to do a kitty mod, not sure if toodles has any stock yet. and it won't look neat and clean but then again you're not looking at the wiring inside since its fully sealed in
JohnnyboySP Posted July 1, 2012 Author Posted July 1, 2012 As long as it works fine I don't particularly care what it looks like on the inside. I'd have to get a friend to help me though, I don't trust myself with stuff like this yet.
mr.mortified Posted July 1, 2012 Posted July 1, 2012 its nothing more than plugging in harnesses toodles has literally made this thing idiot proof and this is the kind of work you get when you hire a modder just sayin~
mAc Chaos Posted July 1, 2012 Posted July 1, 2012 If it's that easy, why doesn't anyone just always mod their own sticks?
Airk Posted July 1, 2012 Posted July 1, 2012 If it's that easy, why doesn't anyone just always mod their own sticks? Well A) Kitty only works for Madcatz TE and Hori VLX. B) Some people really just aren't comfortable opening their stick up and cutting a cable.
JohnnyboySP Posted July 1, 2012 Author Posted July 1, 2012 I've got a friend who knows a ton about this and I'll probably go ahead with this if I can have him help me out. I mean it doesn't look hard, I've just never done this kind of thing before so I'm a bit nervous to try it on my own.
mr.mortified Posted July 1, 2012 Posted July 1, 2012 If it's that easy, why doesn't anyone just always mod their own sticks? its not that bad, but 1) people are retards and don't do their research 2) people don't understand how much money and stuff you need when you do a solder mod which you can guarantee will work
mr.mortified Posted July 2, 2012 Posted July 2, 2012 also you can try this shoutouts to phreakazoid for developing such new mini board tech now i can mod pads without those SMD dual strikes~ http://www.phreakmods.com/products/cerberus
JohnnyboySP Posted July 2, 2012 Author Posted July 2, 2012 So you just plug the new board on the old one and then everything works for both systems? How much does that cost? It says it only works with the Super Street Fighter IV TE and I have a plain Street Fighter IV TE, is there a difference?
JohnnyboySP Posted July 5, 2012 Author Posted July 5, 2012 I got my friends Dad to agree to help me do the kitty installation and he's been doing tech stuff for our Church forever and can practically do stuff like this with a blindfold on. So tomorrow I'll verify what I need to order and order it. [/blog post]
mr.mortified Posted July 5, 2012 Posted July 5, 2012 Kitty install is nutso easy its just plugging in harnesses man
JohnnyboySP Posted July 5, 2012 Author Posted July 5, 2012 Oh I believe you when you tell me it's easy. I've been looking it over and I agree that it seems idiot proof. I'm just covering all my bases for my first time doing something like this. If this works out I'll probably look into buying parts and assembling a stick myself just for fun if it's affordable.
Bibiquadium Posted July 5, 2012 Posted July 5, 2012 Kitty board makes me wish I had bought a 360 stick at first.
