Moy_X7 Posted December 4, 2012 Posted December 4, 2012 Yeah, from the little that I've seen, I like what I've seen lol. 5D and j.D Presents have a very long start-up, you'll have to be extremely careful when you drop them. They don't really seem that appealing to me. Now the Treasure Chests, goddamn, those things look fun. They don't disappear on hit, cover a huge vertical area as they're launched when the opponent get close, and lead to big damage. I refuse to believe that 5C > j.D Pan no longer works. I've seen Plats attempt the 5C > j.C loop on taller characters like Tager and Azrael and they seem to still work. j.C has a slower start-up than j.D Pan, it doesn't make sense that 5C > j.D Pan wouldn't work when 5C > j.C does work. At the very least, it should work on 5C CH. Other than that, I really like what they've done with the Pan. It drops her straight to the ground, which means that she can turn air confirms into big damage. That and the ground bounce lasts long enough for 66 6A > 6C > 22C to work. The Hammer still works for at least one rep of the Hammer loop. I very rarely ever use the full Hammer loop anyways unless it's for the kill. So I'm ok with it being dropped to 2 item stocks as opposed to the former 3. Instant Guard Crush is a welcome addition as well lol. The Bat got buffed a bit as 5D CH > 66 5B/5C works. The 6C buff balances its SMP nerf. 5C > 6C crouching confirm works and 6C launches again, which means easier hit-confirms on 6C FC frame traps. I feel indifferent about Happy Magica. It's nice that she has a reversal option but it's a really crappy one. The counter can be triggered and evaded/blocked with a jab, a JC-able move, or a deep jump attack. Accidental JC "baits" are bound to happen. It does have a ridiculous amount of active frames though, so that's a plus lol. Air CDT is just another way to finish your opponent from an air confirm lol.
Starlight777 Posted December 4, 2012 Posted December 4, 2012 Plat's CT looks like it can lead to some pretty sweet damage in the corner. At 2:54 in this video the player manages to get a 3.4k combo out. That 5c > 2c ending was meh though. http://m.youtube.com/#/watch?feature=plpp&v=o8aok5OtKT4
suna19 Posted December 4, 2012 Posted December 4, 2012 (edited) I love how CTs can be used in combos. and that video was recorded on day 2, so the combos were far from optimal I linked to some vs. Litchi videos in the video thread, and in the second one Platinum picked up a (blue) combo from fatal j.236A~A. Kujikawa Posted December 4, 2012 Posted December 4, 2012 Nice to see Shirou Madoshi again. Used to be my favorite plat in till Yamachi.

The Treasure Chests look fantastic. And the Pan dropping you to the ground really does seem to help. I've seen the instant Guard Crush from the Hammer help Plat a lot too when she's pressuring the opponent. Although Happy Magica isn't the greatest, it doesn't hurt to have a reversal option haha. Fujiwara Posted December 5, 2012 Posted December 5, 2012 For some reason I like how Platinum vs Azrael matches pretty much boil down to keeping this bastard away from you. Also, it seems bubbles work particularly well against him. I've seen him dash right into them multiple times.
Cirno Posted December 5, 2012 Author Posted December 5, 2012 yeah but i wouldn’t count on /decent/ azrael players doing anything stupid like that rofl
Moy_X7 Posted December 5, 2012 Posted December 5, 2012 (edited) Man, our missiles and bombs might be obsolete against him if he can do this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MxaU1baquHo&t=5m50s Basically he's fully invulnerable when he absorbs a projectile with his Growler Field and there's pretty much nothing we can do about it. There might be a small period of time when he's in a recovery state but I wouldn't count on it. Edited December 5, 2012 by Moy_X7
Fusionist Posted December 5, 2012 Posted December 5, 2012 So putting two and two together we have to keep him away from us, but our missiles and bombs might be obsolete? D:
Moy_X7 Posted December 5, 2012 Posted December 5, 2012 Here's to hoping that our 2B low profiles under his 5C. Then we'd just zone him with 2B and j.C lol. Edit: From what I've read in the Azrael thread, nope, he can't absorb the Bubbles.
Cirno Posted December 6, 2012 Author Posted December 6, 2012 no see it's free, just bombs > OD and j.4d, block when he dp's and grab him before the bomb lands. /free/

Tiger Posted December 6, 2012 Posted December 6, 2012 (edited) That's pretty much Platinum vs Ragna too. :/ Didn't we have a harder time dealing with that Ranga's blockstrings, until we find an opening to escape or he gaurd crushes us eventually? I been watching Azrael matches as well, besides the hard hits he seems easiler to deal with than Ragna Edited December 6, 2012 by Tiger
Fujiwara Posted December 6, 2012 Posted December 6, 2012 Dealing with pressure in general isn't Plat's strong suit because lack of reversal/defensive options. But, dealing with Rags is always a chore because he's simply the better character normal and defensive wise. Azrael is slow without his dashes and his longest poke is that weird jacket kick thing. While he eats our projectiles (Bombs/Missles), if his only way of moving is IAD and Dashing/walking backwards/forwards he's quite easier to deal with than ragna as far as I see and it's no wonder bubbles work so well against the man. I plan on treating the man like Tager without his sledge. Space you to death. Having a reversal helps infinitely. It has a crapload of active frames, but it can be grabbed and baited just like any other reversal. It's nice not having to wait for a good point to spend 50% on a CA or hope I have a bat.

Fusionist Posted December 6, 2012 Posted December 6, 2012 I have a hard time against Ragna D: Lose to my friend almost always. Anyone have advice? Yes Extend advice haha that game still exists for now.
Fujiwara Posted December 6, 2012 Posted December 6, 2012 Honestly, I suggest playing Ragna yourself for a month. I did that. Now getting past him is that much easier. I know what to IB, I know his string possibilities, gimmicks etc etc. I've played the whole damn cast besides Carl and Arakune. And then I have my brother playing Carl. That's not to say that a good player won't rape you, but inside knowledge is great knowledge. Go to other forums, read the guides on the characters. Research, yo.
Fusionist Posted December 7, 2012 Posted December 7, 2012 Thanks, I'll probably do that. I've been wanting to play more characters anyway. Haha I really want to improve this iteration of the game.

Moy_X7 Posted December 7, 2012 Posted December 7, 2012 3.2 for a TK Swallow j.B? That kinda sucks, we used to get 4K out of it
itsme Posted December 8, 2012 Posted December 8, 2012 I haven't been keeping up with Platinum recently since she looked pretty fine but how has her damage transitioned or balanced out from CSE to CP? 3.2k to 4k sounds like a nerf but didn't most of the cast get a damage nerf this time too? Even Hakumen gets like 2.4k max from something he could get 4k easy out of the last game.
Moy_X7 Posted December 8, 2012 Posted December 8, 2012 They're still optimizing combos with Plat. We haven't seen her true damage output yet. People are still dropping combos, doing the same thing and not experimenting, and even still trying old CSE stuff lol.
itsme Posted December 8, 2012 Posted December 8, 2012 Yeah, I notice a lot of double heart cars in their combos. And I really can't wait to see her new super item combos.
