SoCal Regionals 2013

General thread for SCR 2013. We will be running a P4A tournament as one of the official tournaments of SCR 2013. We are in process in planning special exhibitions for p4a on possibly Friday or Saturday night on the 2nd stream. If you have any ideas to toss around go ahead and post them here as there might be ones I haven't thought of yet. As for running other games that are not listed on here its TBD at moment.

After a little break in 2012, SoCal Regionals returns bigger and better for the fighting game community in 2013! We're excited to announce our return to Irvine in collaboration with the Fighting Gamers @ UCI for 3 full days of fighting games action!

Fighting Gamers @ UCI

“FightingGamers@UCI (FG@UCI) is a student organization on the campus of the University of California, Irvine (UCI) for people who have an interest in fighting games. What began as a small club for UCI students, FG@UCI is now a community comprised of Southern California’s most passionate fighting gamers.

Our mission is to host gatherings where fighting gamers can befriend, play, and learn with others. We accomplish this by providing a positive and enriching environment through our weekly sessions and occasional special events, which are all held at UCI and open to the general public. We strive to provide our members with resources necessary to enable their passion for fighting games.” - Fighting Gamers @ UCI

SCR! I'm assuming James will be holding a BB side-tourney? I'll do my best to make it to top 8, only to not show up the next day :v: And it's great to see P4 on the main line-up! Also Shingin, would you know if it's possible to pay for a 1-day spectator fee? I won't be showing up for the other 2 days.

Here's hoping for a BB tournament, last year was fun. If it is done, it would probably be one of the last BB Extend tournament hosted here, would be a good way to see this game off.

If we have space to run a side tournament, I'll do it. Last year's venue didn't really have much space for that type of stuff, but I'll do if it the logistics are there.

What kind of schedule should we expect for this?

Every game will start at 10AM on Friday except ST which begins on Saturday.

Pool assignments won't be ready until the week of SCR.

We're still finalizing schedules for other attractions.

We'll update everybody soon!

Heads up for those who did not register yet.

‎[iMPORTANT] Onsite registration will take place this Friday Jan. 18 from 7AM-9AM at the SCR venue. Onsite registration is going to be crazy this year so I'd arrive early to make sure you get a spot. UMVC3/AE tournaments will be capped at 256. Other games will be capped near increments of 32, 64, or 128 depending on how many onsite registrations we get to complete a bracket. Those of you that already pre-regged, pool assignments will be posted by Thurs night on levelup.challonge.com and at the venue. You will see many bye spots reserved for onsite regs so don't freak out. A final list will be adjusted throughout Day 1 to fill the spots.

If you want to be spectator:

Spectator passes will be available Fri, Sat, and Sun during SCR2013 hours of operation. You can purchase them at any time for $10 which is good for all 3 days.(FYI: Price is still $10 if you only decide to go for 1 day.) Players however must still check in on Friday for their badges by 9AM.

I've been told that after 6PM (both days), most pools will be over, so we can think about running side events during that time.

Surprised no one has posted about the Atlus sponsorship and bonus $500 to the pot. Additionally Madcatz looks like they're putting a stick towards first place?

Hype!

Plus tons of casuals. I can't wait!

Alright, serious talk. It is now 3:00 AM, with this event starting in like 6 hours. I see nothing regarding pool times. Challonge JUST got finished with adding all the pool brackets. And honestly, I don't even care who's in my brackets. I need to know WHAT TIME THEY START. The SCR Facebook page got updated about five hours ago with pool times for just AE and MvC3. Good for them. And for some reason testyourmight and tekkenzaibatsu have threads that say what time their pools are for their respective games (though the Tekken one looks very out-of-date.) I see SoulCalibur V will have stream time Friday at 11:00 AM, so I guess some pool will occur around that time. But will they start earlier? Will all pools be run the same day? Who knows! And the big elephant in this room, Persona 4 Arena, doesn't even have that much. No listed stream time, no listed pool times.

So, I guess I'm showing up Friday at 9:00 AM. Might have to wait around all day. Might be dead tired by the time I actually need to start playing. Seriously, I love all you guys at LevelUp and all, but this information is EXTREMELY IMPORTANT. It would be nice if it exists.

Also, on a side note: Friday at 9:00 AM? You do realize people work that day, right? And getting anywhere by 9:00 AM means going straight through rush hour traffic? And to Irvine, a city that's not really close to anybody, or has efficient freeways nearby. I'm going to have to wake up at 6:00, I guess. Hopefully that's enough time to make it! Again, I love you guys, and I understand if the tournament needs to be three days long, but 9:00 AM on a weekday is not cool. Also, this Monday, the 21st, is actually MLK Day, so... that would've been excellent for a third day, no?

Posted

We've been given the okay to run GG/BB side tournaments after 6PM. I'm not certain we'll be able to fit them in on Friday (due to the P4A exhibition at 8PM), but Saturday for sure will work out.
