Looking into it, it's not as cheap as I'd hope it would be.

The cheapest rental looks like it's from Enterprise. I can get a van for the day at $80 (HST included) and 200km free. That said, one way is about 200km so we need another 200km. Each km is $0.25 so the way back is approximately $50. Then there's gas, which will likely be a tank and a half.

So $120 in total. 1/6th is $20, 1/7th is $17.14.Plus gas, which I suspect the max is like $80.

tl;dr, about $30-35 a head.

This is contingent on that we get back to the rental lot by 11:30PM. Which means we gotta leave MTL at like 9PM at the latest. This may be a bit difficult with GG being at 7PM.

Thoughts? Opinions?

Greyhound is looking like a better option to me. Round trip to Montreal is 36$ if booked before Saturday. 40$ otherwise. There are buses that leave at 10:30 and 11:59, so no worries about having enough time to finish the tournament. Also, up to two people that book with you can get a 50% off companion fare discount.

Yeah, most likely a small thing. I'll obviously be up for somehow working that "companion fare" thing with people. Any idea when the return bus gets back and if I'd have to worry about my car getting ticketed if I left it parked at the bus station, Rigel?

@Freezerburn

I'm thinking of taking Greyhound as well, there might be a chance that someone can't make it and all that.

Long-term parking

We offer long-term parking for $7 per calendar day. Parking space is limited and operates on a first-come, first-served basis. There are no reservations. Please arrive at least 45 minutes prior to your departure to allow sufficient time to register your vehicle with security. You may also call security at 613-238-6668 extension 2290 prior to your departure to make sure space is still available.

Let me know if you guys are getting that companion fare deal, otherwise I'll just book a ticket in advance.

45 minutes before departure? Oi...well won't that be lovely. Thanks for the info though, anyway.

Yeah I know, I'm going ask my friend to drop me off there if I do take Greyhound.

If there are more than 4 people who's down for carpool then I'm in, otherwise I'll take the bus.

You guys thought about doing a rideshare? My friends who visit Ottawa have only said good things about it, including cost.

Haven't really heard that term, but I assume it's another name for carpooling since that's kinda what it sounds like. But really, by this point I'm up for whatever's cheapest and makes it so I'm not on the highway from Ottawa back to K-Town at like 3:30 in the morning.

Wow, a lot of these rideshares are pretty cheap. $15 is a pretty good price, though I guess it comes with a risk of getting robbed or something.

I'll ask my friends on which ones they frequent if that makes anyone feel any safer.

Your stick doubles as a weapon and guard. If it blocked a knife it can block you.

Just an FYI, the price I quoted is tax included. You would need to add tax to the Greyhound price so it's still a bit cheaper.

That said, Greyhound is probably a better idea. I've walked between the Greyhound station and Foonzo and it's like 20 minute walk.

Alright so I guess that means we're going with Greyhound.

What time should we agree on for departure time? I'm thinking 8 or 9 am since we'll be arriving there around 10:30 or 11:30am.

Also how about we take off at 10:30 or 11:59pm when the tourney ends? Anyone thinking of crashing there for a day? Thoughts?

If we're going in a group, I'd admittedly rather 9-ish since there's already an extra 45-50 minute drive for me to get to the Greyhound station before and after. So with that being said, I'd admittedly want the whole 9am and 10:30pm-ish thing depending on how long the bus ride turns out to be, but that's just from a bias of not feeling comfortable driving down the highway at 3 or 3:30AM.

Gonna hold back from UMAD this year. Work just dropped all my hours, I'm effectively out of work. Need to find cash dollars quickly.

That actually reminds me that we need to finalize what bus we're taking so I can get tickets and know when we'll be there and when we'll be back.

So I eventually realized that the companion fare deal is only applicable to the standard fare, which is something like 60$. Unfortunately, that makes it basically the same price as getting the regular tickets. For some reason, the advanced purchase deal was still open yesterday, so I just picked up a single ticket for myself on that.

The Greyhound site is pretty inconsistent. In some places it says companion fare on any ticket, in some it says regular fare only, some places say you can bring 2 people, some 3, you have to purchase 3 days in advance... or maybe five, depending on which section of the terms you read. Pretty frustrating. In any case, when you actually go to buy tickets, it'll only apply the discount on the standard fare rate.

Well, I guess we're all just kinda...getting there when we get there or whatever. I'm probably going to take the 9am bus which would get there (is it Montreal (e) or Central Station in Montreal we'd want to arrive at again?) at about 11:30, and I'm thinking of taking the 10:30 one back to Ottawa getting at the station at like 1:10, so...whoever else is going to do that...alrighty then.

Super sad story time. I may (like 90% chance) need to do some work over the weekend. Unless I can get shit done beforehand (unlikely), I'm gonna have to pass on UMAD (so mad bro).

That said, I'm thinking of opening HQ this week so you guys can get your practice on. It may only be for Thursday and I may have to unlock the door for everyone as they come but I can something going if necessary.

LiveWire, are you still taking the offer for the hotel? I never had a clear cut "Yes I'm coming" but rather more a "That'd be cool". It's most likely floor space though, let me know so I can send to you some info about it tonight

Oh, sorry about that Derq. As awesome as it'd be, I kinda don't think I can actually afford dropping $80 to split on the hotel room. As awesome as it'd be to spend the weekend in Montreal chilling, My money situation's tight enough that I can't afford a hotel to do so barring crashing on someone's floor and some other stuff. My bad on that.

And man, that sucks Freezer. Time to make sure I pack the GPS for the walk to Foonzo, it seems, since I don't quite remember.

It's ok, let's do this barfight thing when hotel prices are not through the roof because of the biggest event of the year in town. that being UMAD obviously, grand prix is nothing :3 Or you guys could come to Gore if that ever happens (a house closer to ottawa than MTL where we could gather to play games)

That'd be probably twice as cheap for still some good fun.
